I love his songs, and he is respectful so the fact he did this performance with much love to Lionel, does not surprise me. Luke is a very good person. Lionel is the best. Lionel Richie's have stood the test of time. Another thing great about his songs are that they could easily cross over into other genres. He wrote songs for other artists that became big hits, most notable "lady " by Kenny Rogers.

Reminds you of two things. Luke is a pretty good singer and Lionel Ritchie is a great songwriter. His songs were so good that they could be R&B songs or pop songs or country songs too. Good performance by Luke.
Hearing Luke Bryan sing something other than country was a true testament to his real talent. The pop-ish country often hides the true vocal talent. You did a real thang there Luke, bravo!
I have always found it sad that many of Lionel's songs did not get the recognition in the country music community that it should have. Sail On was a great example of good and entertaining country music. In most places when you look it up, it is posted as R&B. This song was not posted correctly and I can't help but think, it was done because he is a man of color. If you ever doubt his roots, look up Kenny Rogers and Lionel Richie. They have written songs for each other and performed together many times. They are two musical pioneers that set the bar on how a song should sound. More importantly, they proved that the color of your skin should not dictate the music you make. Charlie Pride was one of the first to try to break this barrier, and Lionel carried that torch hoping that people would not judge him on the color of his skin, but the soul of the man performing the song.

What a wonderful tribute 👍. I like Luke Bryan because I live in Germany and my dad moved to America years ago and whenever I visit him and we're on the road, we listen to country music. I also grew up with Lionel Richie's music because my dad bought some records back then. To me, it's timeless music and it also shows how cross-genre Lionel Richie's songwriting is. Of course, he does mostly soul, funk, r'n'b and pop, but "Stuck On You", "Deep River Woman" or Kenny Roger's "Lady" were also hits on the country charts. In retrospect, Lionel should have recorded a duet of "Penny Lover" with Luke for the "Tuskegee" album 😉.

What a wonderful tribute 👍. I like Luke Bryan because I live in Germany and my dad moved to America years ago and whenever I visit him and we're on the road, we listen to country music. I also grew up with Lionel Richie's music because my dad bought some records back then. To me, it's timeless music and it also shows how cross-genre Lionel Richie's songwriting is. Of course, he does mostly soul, funk, r'n'b and pop, but "Stuck On You", "Deep River Woman" or Kenny Roger's "Lady" were also hits on the country charts. In retrospect, Lionel should have recorded a duet of "Penny Lover" with Luke for the "Tuskegee" album 😉.
