    You're great!.... Just saying lol. Also thank you for touching on students with children etc, I took a break after graduating (got married and had a son), and have been thinking that I wouldn't be able to juggle everything. This has been a real confidence boost. Thank you :)

      Ahhh thanks so much Shanelle! Honestly the mums in my year are absolutely smashing it, and most of them have quite tiny ones. They were also were leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of us when it came to our child teaching haha (I did not have a scoobies about child development), so I think it can really enhance your understanding in some areas!

    What a lovely myth buster, thank you so much and I'm glad I found your channel This is my first year of applying and I'm trying to channel and maintain a lighthearted, "don't really care, see how it goes" energy, but nobody around me is convinced. Choosing courses is hard, its hard to read between the lines to work out which ones I'd be low-key ineligible for- I did the practice GMA test and flopped so those ones are ruled out for me!

      @TheWorryPeople  Před 4 lety +1

      Marianna well it sounds like you’re leaps and bounds ahead of where I was when I first applied - I went for two unis with selection tests and FLOPPED 😂 it is really hard to stay cool and aloof but whatever happens, the first app is always a big learning curve which can only be a good thing. Thanks so much for your comment and wishing you so much luck!!!

    Can you please make a video for international applicants , so that we could know the requirements for NHS salary courses better .
    Thankyou

    Thank you so much for this video ! I'm currently completing the MSc conversion course and feel like I'm so late to the game so want to get on the Clin Doc ASAP but know I don't have enough work experience because of the conversion course and not having the time over a few years. Could you expand a bit on the private practice experience? I think I'd love to get this kind of experience but no idea where to start! (as you said NHS is the biggest recruiter so hard to get more info outside of that)

    • @TheWorryPeople
      @TheWorryPeople  Před 3 lety +1

      My pleasure Katja! Yeah I worked for a sole practitioner, who had her own set of clients. There are lots of private residential care homes, SEN schools and hospitals in the UK who will advertise on their webpages as well. It takes a bit of leg work as it's not centralised at all, unlike the NHS, so it can be a question of monitoring websites and/or approaching people via linkedin. I found the KCL aspiring psychologist email list really useful in terms of job opportunities as well - I managed two flexible RA positions through them... but I agree it is a bit of a minefield!!

  • @katarinaprnjak99

    Thanks for this useful video! I am wondering how can you say that the application/interview process is biased because minority groups are less represented among trainees? Is there any clear evidence (other than anecdotes) that there is a bias among staff who are reviewing applications and making decisions? One of the main criteria is to have good IELTS test results (if English is not your first language) and having full working rights in the UK. So of course this excludes a lot of those who are non-UK citizens from the very beginning.. And not having 2:1 in your undergrad psych course is eliminating those with less knowledge or who are less industrious, which kinda makes sense - you have to draw a line somewhere. Blaming the system is so easy these days, and pretending it's never an individuals responsibility for having lower grades. And this is coming from someone who is a minority and was rejected due to not meeting those essential criteria.

      There are often research projects through your uni that you can get involved with as an RA. Some people were also able to do shift work as a support worker - but this depends on the hours that you're doing

      I'm in the white "other" group as well Mirela, but I'm afraid that we all get lumped into one in the vast majority of cases...
