"Scrapbook" is a fitting title for this storytelling of Chicago's history to that point. The line "Jimi was so kind to us, had us on the tour." is a reference to the often told tale of Jimi Hendrix seeing them play at the Whiskey a Go Go and telling them "you guys have a horn section that sounds like one set of lungs, and a guitar player that's better than me! You wanna go on the road?". Jimi had Chicago Transit Authority open for him on a national tour after that encounter.
During the recording of Chicago VII at the Caribou Ranch in Nederland Colorado, Robert Lamm saw the Beach Boys in town (either Denver or Boulder, I forgot which) and asked them to come to the ranch. When they did visit, Chicago asked if they would consider singing on "Wishing You Were Here". Al Jardine, Carl Wilson, and Dennis Wilson provided backing vocals on that song, and it started a friendship between bands. They toured together multiple times ("Summer with The Beach Boys").

This is a Robert Lamm composition. I like his funk side.

This just proves you two have some very well versed followers. Thanks to whoever suggested this, and also to both of you for a great reaction!

This album has some amazing production and musicianship. It also, some claim was “the beginning of the end.” This album produced “If You Leave Me Now,” their first world wide number one hit - and Grammy winner. After this, the band claims, they got pressure to produce the top 40 pop love ballads. Terry became unhappy and was thinking of leaving the band. Shorty after the release of their next album, Terry would die in the accidental gun shooting.

“Played the pier at Venice Beach. The crowd roared out for more. Zappa and the Mothers next, we finished with a roar.”

Robert Lamm on lead vocals, on Chicago X. The Beach Boys reference is to their tour with the Beach Boys in 1975. Chicago Live in 75 is from that tour. This song is litterally a 10 year history of the band. Jimmy is their manager James Guercio.

Back in the day we thought Chicago was just a more commercial version of Blood Sweat and Tears. Anyway that was the time of Hendrix, Cream, the Doors, the Airplane etc. Horn bands just sounded square ...like some studio dudes trying to make a fast buck.

Until the horns get seriously involved, this is one of the least Chicago-sounding recordings this group has ever done. It's still digable, tho.
