I agree with you there, I remember litening to the perfemed garden and the john peel show back in the day, It was such a shock when he died , I feel for sheila and his kids, but what a wonderfull legacy, btw ,I read his part written autobiography and was fasinated by johns time in the states in the 60`s.
Blackburn said in 2007 that he regretted not burying the hatchet with Peel... and in 2010 said that when the two met at functions etc, they got on well. I thought it was quite big on Blackburn to go on This is your life actually, considering the supposed rivalry between them, but I think it was more musical if anything.
I saw him chatting at St Pancras. A top fella. A real English gent, and a very bright man. A great package. Before the PC idiots took control. Peel was everything that I am proud to calk English - open-minded, tolerant, very decent.
ha ha, god bless branson ! he never misses an oppotunity to plug Virgin! lol and thanks for uploading this 3 parter, its just a small shame of the couple of drop out in the tape, oh well , good job though,
John didn't like Tony Blackburn, why didn't John rip his wig off in front of the nation? Too much of a gentlemen...much missed, such a great broadcaster.
What a happy world we'd have if more people embodied the qualities demonstrated by this good man.
I first met John Peel at the Marquee Club and Alan Freeman at the BBC both pure gents. Great DJs, great music, they will never be replaced.
Connolly's words sum it all up, as usual. Thanks for the Cure, thanks for the disease. A grateful nation salutes you.
Peely was brilliant, his festive 50 i used to tape evey year but sadly lost em a few years back moving abroad. r.i.p John.
Ach, I miss Fluff Freeman. And what a great tribute to John Peel.
Met John Peel once, what a lovely man

Funny how they skimmed over the pirate radio bit don't you think ? That's the BBC, I suppose.
What does Connolly mean about the "the disease"? Is this a reference to the bunnymen song???
@banjojobby I wish I could say it was a reference to Boogie Disease by Dr Ross. Check it out...You might catch it.
Ah the marked contrast between serious and worthy Peel and annoying and naff Stewpot and Blackburn
