You should probably watch this start to finish before you 3RZ swap your rig!
We have a bunch more content headed your way along with a custom turbo kit build for the 3RZ engine. This 1985 Toyota Pickup came in with a 22RE engine and left with a ton more power, with the 3RZ engine under the hood.

You crushed it man! Such great content to share with the community!! Keep it rolling!
absolutely sensational video, watched from start to finish. Well done man ! sick swap.
This is so good to know my 22r just got a bottom end knock and I want to swap to a 3rz
I love this video I learned a lot brot !!this is the kind of vid I like 👍🏻
I have been dragging my feet on my swap for a few years but I just pulled the 3rz out of my donor '97 2wd 5spd 4runner. Going to swap it into my '94 2wd 5spd pickup. This is the first engine swap I've done and watching this video put a little fire under my ass to get on this project. Thanks!
Thanks for the video. Chilkat Designs also makes that cross over exhaust pipe pre bent ready to weld.
Sick! Thanks for the tip
Cool. Thanks for doing the video. I’ll be doing the swap soon. 🤘🏽
Awesome man good luck!
Very well documented! thanks!
We try! It’s kinda rough but it gets the point across
Sick video bro good job
So awesome I found this video! Thanks for posting, been wondering what was involved with doing a swap to a newer 4 cylinder from the 22RE. I’ll be doing this on a 85 4 Runner.
It's weird, it looks like 90% of a normal engine swap but that last 10% will test your ability to fabricate and think outside the box. Good job.
Intake can be had off the shelf, and they actually also sell an exhaust crossover. There will be little things like brackets etc I made that could be a challenge but I think this could be easily done without a welder!
I wish someone would do a good detailed video like this for a 3.4 swap
@dirtgarage is going to be dropping one
Nice vid. Its giving me some help with my conversion but mines a different build 04 single cab n bed on 93 hilux chassis its solid axle chassis here in aus
Looked at forums for help before i under took it got most parts so looking forward to finishing it off
Thanks for having a detailed install was good to watch
Any questions feel free to ask!
I needed this videos 2years ago , haven’t still got her running but damn I would’ve helped a lot 😭
Hopefully it can help you now!!
this is amazing, thank you so much.
Thank you for tuning in! We appreciate it
😮😮😮 love it
I have two donor trucks, one auto and one manual. The auto had two extra stiffener brackets from the motor to the bell housing but the manual one did not. Is that common, or did the manual truck lose those brackets under a previous owner? I tried to swap the the bracket from the auto over for this swap but they hit the new oil pan location. Do you think the brackets are needed? Thanks for the great video!
Help me on how to connect the engine control box they're same wires the body
Thanks for this. My 22RE needs some love and I'd like some more power but the 3RZ would fix both problems. How noticeable is the power difference between the two engines?
Extremely noticeable.
where was this 5 years ago !!!
What's up, TMC homie? What are the details of that oil pan, please? It looks super/original equipment and not like a cut/paste/patch weld job.
I’m surprised he didn’t do egr delete
No fan shroud?
what did you do with your 22e power steering sistem? i'd buy it
Audio hum is loud! Are you using the camera mic?
To reduce background noise, more the mic closer to the person speaking.
Audio is awful on this, we are aware 😊
This was definitely early in the making of the channel. We have loud everything, compressors, fans, AC, heat.
We have many more useful tools to help with this for content that is being pushed out here shortly
funny I just rebuilt my 22re I mean just ... has like 10 miles on it .. .and now I want to do 3rz ... it solves all kinds of issues more power. guess we have to do what we have to do. video is helpful. any chance you have a parts list ? of what is needed to complete and a step by step instructions ?
I’m doing a few more swaps soon so maybe on one I can break down all the costs
@@ElevatedOverland I just did a 22re rebuild and regret not doing a swap. I watched your video I think I ll pull the 22re and do a swap. I want to collect all the parts I need prior to starting. Its nice to see your work order so I do not make mistakes. Why don't you drop the transmission you have a lift it seems like its easier to and to stab the transmission into he motor rather than the motor to the trans? The one question I need to workout is what is required to make it smog legal ...
When lifting the rear you just do spring over I'm assuming? You have a kit you recommend? Not sure if a normal Toyota one would work or if I would need something for like a Dana 60?
Toyota SOA.
How did you get the new dipstick tube to seal in the block correctly?
I hit it with a hammer 😂
It’s kinda like a press fit
How’s she drive? Night and day difference? After the 3.4 do a 1uz swap in one of these!
Night and day 100%
I’m actually swapping one of these into a 4x4 motorhome. Updates soon
So i have a 2rz swapped 86 4runner having a problem with the fuel plump randomly shutting off sum days will run good all day sum days it will die 10 times in 100 yards I took a wire to a key on 12v power and ran it over to the blue wire that gos down by the passenger seat to the pump and it’s never died agin but I’d like to fix it right any ideas on this I was thinking maybe the EFI relay on the driver side is bad and gets hot and randomly stops working ?
Id check both the circuit open relay, and the EFI relay.
Man, I like and appreciate the video, but please equalize the audio on the next one. I was constantly turning it up for you to talk and down for the montage/audio parts.
Will the 3rz wiring harness work with a 2rz swap? Off-road solutions doesn’t have one for a 2rz
It sure will! Give them a call
Nice Video, I send my toy to a shop for a 3.0 to 3.4 swap when I got back from deployment to my money and it never got completed. Where is ur shop located at. Need some good help on getting my toy back on the road.
Joe
970-238-1417 we can get you sorted out
Is this switch possible or recommended on a 22r 5 speed standard carburated celica?
Absolutely is!
Where did you end up relocating the dipstick or how does that all work haha 😅
My bad! There is a plug next to the engine mount on the intake side of the block, you punch that out with the oil pan off.
How different is the swap to do on a factory carbureted pickup?
Mainly add a fuel pump.
Hello from Greece!!! You are the only reason for the swap of my Hilux !!! Frame code YN110L with 4Y carburettor engine and now with 3RZ engine. I made a whole swap (engine, wiring and interior) from Tacoma RZN161. Very difficult but All perfect!!!! The only question is for the oil indicator. When looking the engine (like yours) looks like turns left. So, the oil level is not correct! The engine filled with 5,5 litres of oil, to see the level to the empty position! Do you have the same problem? How to fix this problem?
The oil dipstick reads properly even at the slant
OK! The correct oil capacity?
@@thomasandreou1328 Yes
I have the same engine (1994 Toyota pickup V6 3.0/3VZE), and I'm getting a code 24 and code 31...rough idle, rich running, hesitation sometimes when i press on the gas pedal, check engine light on, and occasional backfire when first starting (cold). The truck came with an EGR delete set up, as well as a cold air intake simplification mod when I bought it. If you (or anyone) could offer some guidance, I am by myself and really need help. Thanks!
That’s not quite the same engine, although most engines are very similar when diagnosing issues.
Sounds like an Air fuel ratio issue, I’d start with checking the MAF, tps, and o2 sensor
Thanks
Have you ever done a swap from 3.0-2.7? If yes how different is it from this swap?
I have not. Engine mounts would be custom
@ElevatedOverland do they sell motor mounts for the 22re to 3rz? I heard you need a custom oil pan with ifs?
What’s the cost ?
Which transmission is this? Sorry if I missed it somewhere
W56, g52 should work as well!
You said W59 bellhousing, is everything else just stock W56 trans/clutch/slave/etc aside from the line you made?
Bellhousing is w59, clutch is 3rz. Slave is also 3rz
@@ElevatedOverland which transmission is in it? My 93 Isuzu went boom and I just grabbed a 2rz to swap in, but am searching for the best manual setup to swap in. I think it will be more fun to stay manual than to swap in an auto.
@@sleepsontoilet1 w56 is what we used
@@sleepsontoilet1 w56,w59,g52 can all be used.
R150/151/155 with a 2TR bellhousing can be used
Do you know if anybody makes the oil pan for ifs
Yes a factory pan should work, a 2WD 2rz pan I believe
Thanks
That water pump gasket lol 8===}
Turn the fucking fan off
It’s 105° here. No thanks. But we did get a better mic 🙃
audio mixing 4/10 - talking so quiet compared to the blearing transition music
As noted in previous comments we have taken this into consideration 🤘🏼
SHOULD HAVE DELETED THAT EGR GARBAGE
Emissions compliance. Has to stay.
yor audio levels suck I cant hear you and the music is way too loud... and crappy.
Find another guide to follow then. Thanks for the comment
