If anybody is confused, Mel was little when she made that scene. She was only 15 years old so now in this one, she is now 18 years old or 22 and now she is getting the hang of it and learning how to swim.

Yes, Mal can't swim. If you go back and watch the movie, she explains why to Ben. Think about what surrounds the Isle of the Lost, that might limit the amount of swimming the inhabitants can do. Hope you find this helpful! 👍
At the end of the mini movie, we realise that mal had imagined that entire encounter with uma and the whole singing under the water thing in her head but when she snaps out of it when dizzy is calling her name that is when mal realises it never actually happened
