I have had the full set of 40 crayons for over 30 years and I just want to let you know that they make GREAT face paints. I wet a sponge and put the tip of the crayon on it to activate it and then paint until the need to wet it again. Over the years my kids had animal faces painted for Halloween, birthday party face decorations, rainbows, flowers, butterflies...you name it. Of course, when I first purchased them an entire set was under $40 (and I gasped at that!) Needless to say, I have used them for art pieces too and pretty much have to give them a thumbs up!
Awesome crayons. Wish I had gotten them a couple years back. I am also a huge fan of the FC Watercolor pencils. I wanted that 120 can count box. Someday.... I was drooling when you opened it up!
Watercolor pencils and hot-pressed paper are an absolute d r e a m together 🪴🌿 Activating pigments right on the surface allows for some very unique textures that I simple adore, watercolor pencils have always been a favorite of mine!
Emma, SAVE all of your shavings in a different palette. Due to their price, you want every single morsel! I have the Neo Color 2 & they're stunning colors! :) Fanna
Thank you for the demo. I had bought those crayons and didn't know what to do with them. Your peaches were beautiful . I love the crayons. Your tulips are lovely.
Bought some watercolor pencils to help with the ‘20 COVID lockdown. Your video helps me really understand how to use them. Looking forward to pulling those out again! Your tutorials are so helpful and your artwork is beautiful. Thank you❣️
Thank you for the comparison. Love both sets. I took an art class in the fall & the Caran D’Ache set was what our instructor had us purchase for the class. I had so much fun using them, have been using them ever since, & my hubby gave me a larger set for Christmas. I love how they blend, ease of use, & have made some pretty interesting paintings with them. I enjoy them more than my watercolors, but the outcome is quite different so I use both. Haven’t tried pencils yet, except to outline.
Thanks for this video. I have a small set of watercolor pencils and haven’t really used them much. Your video shows how much more can be done with them than I had realized. And I love the idea of easily being able to take my water colors with me. Your videos are so easy to understand and inspire those of us wanting to learn to paint. Kathy
I enjoyed this so much Emma. It felt like I was at a friend's house and we played with our art supplies togeather. It was so fun. I must dig out my crayons and pencils. I've been so busy with my water colors. Lol. Karen from Canada
Emma - I just started watercolors (with zero background) in February. Flowers were my first subjects. I keep coming returning to prior pieces to improve them. The tulips are surprisingly difficult! I was unhappy with yet another Tulip piece just yesterday. After watching your video, I realize the watercolor pencils may be exactly what I need for the control of color and tone. Thank you, also, for including a video showing your steps (layers). ... Thank you for your channel and sharing your wealth of knowledge!!
The stickers that you found in the box, are decals to put on the cover of the set to distinguish what you have in that particular set, because many of Caran d’Ache products come in the same color of tin.
I have watercolor pencils but have not used much and now I’m inspired to get them out! I also have inktense pencils and not sure how or why to use but feel less intimidated now. The crayons look lovely to use.
I tried watercolor pencils and crayons about ten years ago and was unhappy with them. I didn't like the texture, as you mentioned, as well. I ended up giving mine away. Perhaps the manufacturers have improved the quality? After watching this video, I will have to rethink watercolor pencils and crayons! Thanks for sharing, and I hope you will post some more videos using wc pencils and crayons, so we can learn as you learn to master them!🙏🙏🙏
I still go 'oooh!' every time I get my Faber-Castell watercolour pencils out, and I've had them for a few years now! 😂 I've used a few watercolour crayons but I can't get away with them as I don't feel I have as much control over them. 😊 The Tulips are absolutely gorgeous. 😊 ❤️
Hi Emma I have a set of the neocolor that you have and I have been so ... confused as to how or where to start. This has really helped me a lot! So to with the pencil crayons. Really awesome!
Loved this video! I’ve heard you mention the struggles creators sometimes have with coming up with ideas and motivation for their videos. I just want to say that I love when you “play”. Whether it’s just mental health play or new product play or just seeing where watercolor takes you…those are my most favorite videos. I know you want to throw in some tutorials and tips, but the stuff that comes out when you just play is so interesting and helpful. Like remember when you were learning gouache? Even your struggles were relatable and interesting to watch. Then, when I painted with gouache and had some similar experiences, I didn’t feel so alone - I remembered your video. Anyway, thank you for being real and sharing your art.
OMG I am so happy you bought the large set of watercolor. I got the same before Christmas and I looking for a good tutorial to give them a good try. Your tutorial will help me with that. Thanks
I love your videos. I am trying to master water soluble crayons and watercolor pencils. I find your watercolor demonstrations very helpful in manipulating the media. I have been using oil pastels and soft pastels and decided to expand . Thank you so much. I plan to watch more of your videos.
My favorite way to use the crayons is to color them out on a pallette, then pick up the pigment with a brush. They go from watercolor transparent to gouache like and opaque. The best versatile medium Caran dache neocolor 2, and if you're wondering about the lyra they are great too. Only the slightest difference between lyra and caran dache.
I wanted to try the neocolor2s, so I bought the 15 pack just to try them & loved them so much that I bought the 80something tin when they came on sale at jacksons a few months ago ( even with international shipping I saved at least half of what they would've been to buy here in Australia)
Oh my gosh ...so love this cute video. I could never have imagined how beautiful this medium could be... especially crayons lol. Emma you're a great teacher.
Oooo I'd love to have the full set of these too! But I'd also really love to have the full set of Faber Castel Polychromos! So I'm going to have to pay down the credit card a little first. Lol 💕
Emma Tim Holtz has a great set of the color crayons. You buy 3 different containers I have them oh and with the crayons save the shavings they can be used as well
I loved hearing your excitement when you opened up the crayons and the colored pencils! I loved both pieces that you created. Now I need to go play with my pencils and paints. 💗
At 7.27 I loved hearing you praise yourself for having done what you set out to do, even though it didn't go exactly the way you wanted. This is the reason I like your tutorials so much. Your experiences give me the confidence to try. Other artists make it look so easy that I feel rubbish in comparison. Thanks Emma. Ps it was your Watercolour Pencil Gnome Christmas Card tutorial that got me back into art again. X
I love love love my neocolors, though I prefer the Is, because I generally use them dry. I only wet the IIs if I'm trying to cover up the white of the page. That's also why I prefer to use them on colored paper, so the color of the paper shows through. I just LOVE how pigmented they are. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I do!
Hi Emma. I love my Neo color II and I like to shave some into my watercolor wells then add the water so it’s like painting with extremely vibrant colors.
Ooo, hope you have fun! The neocolor crayons are probably one of my favorite art supplies of all time. Also I really loved what you did with the vase for the tulips! I never thought to do anything like that, but it was so pretty!
I find it’s easiest to think and treat the crayons like gouache. I like them best with just a little water. Stiff brushes will move them really easily, they do take a little practice, but they are so much fun.
Wow- at last some expert tuition for watercolour pencils 👏! I have had a set of these for ages and never produced anything I was happy with. You have shown me the way 🙏 - big thanks!
So happy to see you with these. I have water color pencils and not sure how to use them. Not very many in-depth tutorials for them. The crayons are so vibrant. Love the tulips in the vase. Beautiful. Please more tutorials with these
I found a small set of the neocolors in my stash when I was doing some de-cluttering at the end of last year. I've been obsessed with them since. I'm mostly having fun playing with limited palettes. Still learning my way with them - mostly where it comes to achieving large background washes without things getting streaky. I'll figure it out sometime. It's really fun seeing how so many artists lately have suddenly been playing with these right at the same time I started playing around with mine.
When my kids were little we used the caran D'ache crayons for face painting (after seeing them used for this purpose in a kids' museum).. We just used a wet sponge to get the crayons wet. I wonder if I still have them?
Love them ! Never saw these before awesome. Thank you 😊. I'm thinking about buying one set now that I've seen them being used. Have a blessed day! FLORIDA 🇺🇸
What fun Don't forget that you can use your water brushes on the tips of the Caran d'Ache crayons. That does beautiful things too. Have fun and looking forward to what you create.
Wow....that's fabulous to watch the transitions of the colours and water...in different ways....I love the pencils....always used them when I was younger....and I am still using the paints....pretty new to all this so I will continue for a while.....but Thank you for sharing 😊
Again you teach me so much! Watercolor pencils are still my favorite but I would like to try the crayons. I will try to pick them up! After all, it’s important to support new products! Thanks for always showing new things, Karen Dirmish 21:1821:18
Love this tutorial Emma ! The pencils are amazing and I have a set of Himi water colour pencils which I've never used so will be hunting them out and giving them a try. Thank you for sharing your lovely talent with us x
Hi Emma - I also have both these products, and I do love them. The Caran D'ache are great for travelling - with a water brush - easily transportable. You can also use a hand held pencil sharpener to "shave" off some of the color into a palette to use like traditional watercolor, and it then also gives your pencil a sharp point. Watercolor pencils I don't use as much - but they are nice to have...LOL Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Yeah, you have to get the 120 set to get the extreme greens. And at first I regretted getting the 120 and then I was thrilled. I'm still thrilled. There's a crazy amount of pigment in that set. It'll last you an age. And I found with my small set of Polychromos that when dry, the Albrecht Durer are almost identical in color and pigment lay down. So you really get a Polychromos set that is water soluble, best of both worlds. They are glorious especially if you want fine detail. I hope that you'll give me ideas going forward on how to use the Caran D'Ache Neocolors because they are pretty but don't inspire me to create. Thanks for the review.
oh wow so lucky! i want the neo colours and have just got myself a 60 set of the normal faber castell watercolour pencils, am still trying to work them out as they seem to be making my paintings opaque but maybe i am using them wrong. really enjoyed this video as watercolour supplies are so expensive down here in new zealand so its good to see these products in action. thanks for your time and skill sharing
I am so glad I found you on CZcams, and a fellow Canadian to boot!🇨🇦😀
I have had the full set of 40 crayons for over 30 years and I just want to let you know that they make GREAT face paints. That was fun ! My heart skipped a beat when I saw all those trays of colour. Thank you

I bought a full set of the water color pencils. Good sale plus I had fifty dollars in points I used. They’re beautiful.

Those pencils look heavenly…lol

I love your art - and I am happy that you like both - I also invested in them
Our zoo used the watercolor crayons as face paint for kids.
Great video, I have 24 Aquarell pencils but the crayons looks great and very vibrant. Fabulous set of 120 ❤❤❤
When you run down those Faber castel aqua pencils they are easily replaced in open stock too for replacement
I think I might need those water color pencils.
That was so much fun Emma! I have those crayons from mixed media days! I need those pencils too! I'm gonna bring them out to play!🥰
I love your tulips/vase painting, it's beautiful.

Thank you! I'd love to use these on nature walks, but the cheaper brands were too pale --- I appreciate seeing the artist grade!
What a glorious presentation. Thank you ❤
Those crayons are amazing. I bought all mine open stock. So just a few at a time.
I tried watercolor pencils and crayons about ten years ago and was unhappy with them. I didn't like the texture, as you mentioned, as well. I ended up giving mine away. I'm glad you got these. Seems there isn't enough of them on CZcams and I'm sure you will bring them into the spotlight with your unique style. ⭐
With tin or glass you can mark crayon on tin activate with water and paint with paint ...
Oh I love this! I have these products but am still figuring out how to really use them to their best advantage. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful! You are so talented!

Painting and Chocolate has done some awesome artwork with these. Have fun you deserve them

My sister-in- loving the greens lol I looove faber Castell w.c. pencils are beautiful. The others are on my list. 😆
Super cool! I love seeing you work with a different medium!

I really enjoyed learning about the different mediums, so much fun! When you opened that case of pencils…oh my, the colors.
Hi Emma😊I love your content so much. Thank you for all the amazing content❤
These are the perfect medium for using water brushes, and they are excellent for travel

Those crayons look really lovely, I’ve been seeing them everywhere lately! 😊
I love it !! I hope I can paint like a pro like you 😅
Super .. I often paint together with friends . You are my inspiration…what can we do today ?😀❤😃
Have you tried Derwent Intense pencils and blocks? Once they dry, you can’t reactivate them. I enjoy using them. Thanks for the lesson here.
Not yet!
Wow- at last some expert tuition for watercolour pencils 👏! I have had a set of these for ages and never produced anything I was happy with. You have shown me the way 🙏 - big thanks!

I have MANY watercolor pencils and crayons, but hands down, Albrecht Durer is the BEST!! Plus it’s permanent when dry, so layering is a blast!
"Waller-soluble". 😂😂😂😂 (I'm melting!!!!)

Very interesting, thank you 😊
I just started experimenting with my water color pencils yesterday😊 Glad you did this video.
These both look like great mediums. I would have a hard time picking a favorite!
I'm sometimes psychic and I now see a full set of Caran d'ache watersoluable crayons in someone's future. Her name begins with an E.
I also use pastels with water.🖌🎨
Emma ☀️🌸 you are a very good artist 🌷☀️ thank you very much for the great Tutorials 👍🏻 regards from Germany Tanja G. 🍀
Wow this is so nice and so many colors I definitely will purchase so create more videos please I truly enjoy them

Awesome 🙌
Beautiful ❤
Love it! Your hair looks absolutely lovely Emma!
Thank you Emma for this video. You always surprise me.
You are such a great artist!
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
You've got me wanting those crayons now lol 🤣
Awesome.❤
Oh, also if you have to sharpen a crayon be sure to save the shavings as they can be activated to use like watercolors.
