Your Greenhouse is cold because you've completely closed it off to the outside environment. Try using an oil filled radiator instead with a separate plug in thermostat timer. They are far more efficient. That heater looks like it would burn a ton of electric.

Goliad farms on CZcams explains the hi-fin gene with livebearers really well. From my understanding they don’t breed true and if you breed a hi-fin to hi-fin 50% will inherit it but out of those 50% half the fry will die, due to inheriting a double hi-fin gene. Like I said goliad farms owner explains it really well, much better than I can.

Hmm okay that is very interesting I didn’t know that. Thanks for the information! Will need to find that goodies farms video to learn more.

@@endlessaquariums9524 When a fish inherits two copies of hifin it dies before birth. The practical aspect of this is you can’t develop a true-breeding population of hifins. Since each hifin fish is heterozygous and carries a non-hifin gene, two hifins mated together will produce both hifins and non-hifins in the approximate ratio of 2:1 hifins to non-hifins. If the hifin gene weren’t a homozygous lethal you’d expect a ratio of 3:1 hifins to non-hifins.

There are so many daisy chain setups that I'm surprised that nothing burned up...especially with huge levels of humidity...

Haha yea I have everything connected to a gfci extension so if any water touches the power strips, they automatically turn off. I have my air pumps on a different connection to have them running even when the heaters turn off.

just an fyi I have been breeding platys for decades and almost none of them breed true, especially the longfin or veiltail strains. There are always a lot of culls. Hope this helps.

thanks for sharing your greenhouse heating setup, that's really cool. if you're still running them, how many air pumps do you have and how do you distribute lines between tanks?

In regards to your hi-fin sunrise platys, it's important to understand that hi-fin is a simple dominant trait, so it won't always breed true in the case of crossing parents that are heterozygous for the trait (you'd expect 25% hi-fin homozygous, 50% hi-fin heterozygous, and 25% normal-fin). It's a little hard to identify homozygous individuals with livebearers since females will retain sperm from previous mates, but a homozygous fish will produce only hi-fin offspring regardless of the other parent's genotype.

Worth noting that I've heard, but haven't seen conclusive evidence, that the homozygous hi-fin genotype may be fatal
