I robbed the brushes for my mantua steamers but the motors are still of use if someone wanted them. The plastic wheels have chipped from previous owner but I dont need them . good work getting this old girl fixed up.

    I have seen guys replace those rivets with screws but getting something to still hold it to that mount bracket is a challenge, because the top of it holds that on. If the rivet is hollow maybe they could be tapped for a screw from the bottom. The front truck is no big deal for a couple of long screws through with nuts probably on the top.
    Engine is missing a plastic fuel tank and metal weight that sits inside of it.

This unit lacking a powered companion led me to purchase an Athearn B&O A-B pair at a train show, which I now use without the Tyco dummy due to it lacking a proper back coupler holder

    • @randallellison6421
      @randallellison6421 Před rokem +1

      @@Gma7788 I didn't say that I don't understand rivets, what I meant was that it's unusual that they would do that knowing the eventual owner would have to service that area of locomotive eventually. Not everyone has the necessary tools, or would go through the trouble of drilling out the rivets and then having to replace them with new rivets after servicing! If that makes me odd, so be it, it's just that I've never seen one done this way before.

    Use CA on the cover plates??? BAD IDEA!!!!! You should tap those for a 0-80 or a 2-56 screw and screw those plate back on. Using CA, you wont be able to crack that thing open again later!

      My concern is actually the opposite, the CA might not hold up to a hard bump. I would have used screws but unfortunately the smallest ones they had were still too large to use so I ended up going with this.

      @@SMTMainline Okay - that's understandable. But you've made me think for a minute....
      If you REALLY want that sucker glued down and never have to worry about it again, try JB-Weld. That is an epoxy type glue which is mixed just before it is used, and from my experience will bond anything to anything, and it simply will not break. You just mix a little of the resin and a little of the hardener on a scrap piece of paper or cardboard, and using a toothpick mix them together. Then using that same toothpick, apply a tiny bit on each side if the two items you want to glue together, and place them together. This hardens in about two hours, and you'll NEVER be able to separate the bond!
      I have used it to glue coupler boxes to loco and car frames when a screw simply can't be used. I've never had one break off. Of course...glue the box to the frame BEFORE you put the coupler in the coupler box!!!

    When I can’t fix a tyco, I just bring the hammer over. I think you know what happens next...

      Check the wiring , commutator. If the motor turns and its not running. Id say the pivot gear. The metal on. Motor is spinning on the shaft or something. That be my honest guess SMT may know better. I have a chattanooga but the gear on Motor looks different its a 1st gen 1974-1975 locomotive with cars and 1stgen caboose. Quiet runner

    the music was not needed buddy. I don't like that you don't due a total breakdown cleaning. You are only doing the bare minimum why is that? So much junk and corrosion, rust none of it cleaned. KILLING ME SMALLS!!!
