    Rooftop Tents are always a hot topic - some people think they are a giant waste of money and dumb, while other people have actually used them. ;) Sometimes people like to poke fun at 'overlanders' and their gear - but coming from someone who likes to camp often, and quick - rooftop tents are a game changer. I personally love rooftop tents for their ease of use, and never having to worry about the condition of the ground that you'd normally have to pitch a tent on. For speed, the GFC RTT canoot be beat. It just makes camping so much easier - which is ultimately the end goal for me (quickness and ease of use). Having tested several rooftop tents of different styles, I have a pretty good grasp of what I like in a Rooftop Tent. In this video I talk about the GFC RTT - Go Fast Campers Roof Top Tent.

    Bought one after seeing it previously on your channel and doing my own due diligence. Had it installed Monday and we’re going out in it next week for a test run. Very impressed with quality and ease/speed of setup and take down. We have the gen5 4Runner so it’s really low without a rack. Only thing I’m going to change ASAP is adding a pull-down loop at the rear to assist as it’s kinda tall for me working off the back of the 4Runner. I think the AluCab ones have this standard.
    Thanks for the videos and you can tell GFC your vid pushed me their way....

    I agree with most of the comments - it's a great RTT combo Roof rack, but I can't justify the price tag. Even if I didn't have a roof rack, at $4300 for the RTT and 4Runner mount it's close to buying a used van. I guess overlanding inflation is what driving these prices. I can't blame GFC - most of these RTT are way out of my price range.

    While I appreciate the thorough and unbiased video, for what you have sunk into all the gear on top of your vehicle I can buy a top-of-the-line four person tent with rain fly, pads, sleeping bags, cooking gear, winter parkas, boots and so on. I don’t see the attraction of this claustrophobic two person tent that needs a ladder to enter and exit.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  Před 4 lety +7

      Yeah, you can certainly camp in a ground tent for much, much, much cheaper. This tent specifically is basically a rack system integrated into a rooftop tent. A rooftop tent has many advantages (and some cons) vs a ground tent. The main advantages (that I personally value) are the ease of setup and never worrying about the condition of the ground (water, snow, rocks, levelness, room, etc) - it makes camping much, much, much easier. Wherever I can park my truck, I can camp/sleep in a comfortable, easy to setup tent. This is maybe a more valuable in rocky colorado where most of the places I camp are covered in snow half the year.

      I've never been in a tent where I've thought "man, I wish this was smaller". At 6'5", I'd definitely strongly consider an XL tent. Though there are many larger tents that are not specifically "XL" models that would work fine for you.

    Nice looking tent overall. Not including the ladder is unfortunate though, seems like the vast majority of people are going to want it. Also, not seeing the purpose of the translucent top panel. You can't see out of it, so all it's doing is allowing heat and light to come through in the morning. It would be cool to have a top that has some sort of clear panel available if you want to look at the stars/sky exc but could also put some sort of shade on it when you don't want the see through ability.

    The tent seems nice, however, if I can't keep my bedding, i.e. sleepingbag, blanket, pillow and such inside when it's closed for travel, this is a definite no go for me. Besides the price is just too much. I guess, I would use it if I was sponsored. 😉

    That tent is junk compared to other options for similar money. I spent years in Alu Cab products and now I use a South African rtt. • @MountainManGuy
    @MountainManGuy Před 4 lety +8

    Decent tent, but way way way way way overpriced. That goes for the iKamper as well, which is nicer than this but still way way way overpriced for what it is. What kind of warranty do these tents come with? For 3500 it better be a lifetime warranty with an overnight delivery service when something breaks.
    Love your channel, so don't get me wrong, but it hurts me to even understand how these things are listed for 3,500, and it doesn't even come with the ladder!!!

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  Před 4 lety +1

      Like I said - look at prices of rooftop tents (hardshell). Something can't really be 'overpriced' if it's priced in line with all of the competition and tons of people are buying them. It can be 'expensive' - but the market dictates price, therefore technically there is nothing that is ever really overpriced. Well, to clarify, if something is overpriced, people aren't buying it - which isn't the case.

    • @MountainManGuy
      @MountainManGuy Před 4 lety +1

      @@LastLineOfDefense I agree, and that is part of the problem. Retailers can charge what they want, and if people buy it then they are going to keep charging that much. I think if you looked at the cost of materials, design, manufacturing, logistics, etc, it would be substantially less than what they are charging.
      I'm all for high quality stuff, but these tents feel like price gouging to me.

    • @LastLineOfDefense
      @LastLineOfDefense  Před 4 lety +1

      Being in the know for this particular product and company, I can tell you their margins are actually very low on this tent. Part of that is the cost of manufacturing in the US with US made materials. Now this exact tent made in china, would be a slightly different story. Though, there are a lot of lower featured tents, made in china, that are selling for this price as well - those are the ones I'd question. ;)
