You know this is a movie, if the people in it can't shoot a rifle, twenty five yards from each other and hit their target, that's what got me with these old westerns.
You expect reality from Hollywood, which does not specialize in reality. You will always be disappointed.

J'ai reconnu rapidement ce film, car mon père, malheureusement disparu, nous a diffusé en Super 8 muet, un extrait de ce film. Cet extrait durait une dizaine de minutes. Ça m'a fait beaucoup de bien, et rappeler beaucoup de souvenirs, merci beaucoup.

I love John Wayne movies, he was a great actor….loved especially McKlintoch, Sons of Katie Elder, the Alamo and the Longest Day, all very good movies and various known actors/actresses in them. HIGH 5…👍❤️🙏🏼

I never agreed with the general consensus that John Wayne's Lone Star B-westerns aren't very good. I actually prefer some of them over the Duke's more 'respectable' films. These modest productions are enjoyable precisely because of their simple, direct storylines and amount of action packed into running times of barely an hour, making them easy to watch any time. As for Wayne, he's actually just as good as he'd be later, it's only that some people need to see his name backed up by John Ford or Howard Hawks before they realize it. The Duke's naturalness and affinity for action is already evident in these 'quickies'. Heck, it was even there before in 1930 with THE BIG TRAIL.😊

There are some that love horses and like to baby them. There are others that like to ride and use their horses. Watching the horse stunts relaxes me. Riding will relax me. Sometimes I like to saddle one of my wife's horses and run it on a 2 to 3 mile round trip to the hills and back. Afterwards, I come back to the barn on a tired horse. My wife lets me know she is pissed because I didn't ask her or was gone too long. As for me, it's an incredible feeling and great stress relief reliever - putting a comfortable saddle on a horse, running it for a couple of long stretches of trail, then bringing it home and taking care of it.

I look at these streams in some of these old movies I think about how many fish are just laying in they're waiting to be caught.
Back then those streams were not over fished and the fish were big.
Seeing these rivers and streams are like looking at a picture of my high-school sweetheart who got away.
A lot of good, old movies are being f ucked up these day colorizing them.

The streams look awesome and I wonder how great the fishing was back then. The highlight of the movie is at 51 minutes, check out Big John chasing the buckboard. This was 1934, I can see the producer giving a young cowboy some whiskey and 5 bucks to ride the horse off the cliff, which might be an incredible experience and its 20 - 25 feet to the water? Think about running into a brick wall. Sorry horse, this is gonna hurt. I tip my hat and raise a beer to salute these cowboys. Thanks for the show and some good horseback riding.

Beautifully filmed in California National parks. The color leaves much to be desired. Maybe they can redo it in 4K and it will look like new.

Its very sad how horses and other animals were abused and injured to make these old movies. I think animals suffered a lot back then.

Fact.
The movie was made in a different time and attitudes. Horses were plentiful and cheap - such as surplus ranch horses and, retired livery and school horses. Some of the movie horses had a hard life such as being saddled and at dawn and ridden until late afternoon by uncaring riders.
The unlucky horses that were picked to do the trip wire falls and trips pits often ended up with broken necks, legs, or a combination of these. Sometimes a wrangler put a bullet in the horse's head and sometimes, the horses were left to die. Once in awhile, the horses got up, only to get saddled and ridden the next day with another running-w or into a trip pit. As for the stunt riders, except for the big names, the rider's got 5 to 8 dollars to throw a horse with a running-w or gallop the horse into a covered trip pit.

Jumping on horseback never hurt any horse. It was done many times daily at the Steel Pier in Atlantic City. Vets declared it was not dangerous and none suffered any injuries.
