  • This circuit will produce a blinking, pulsing light signal and is perfect for use on any vehicle such as a motorcycle atv side by side ect. The speed of the light flashing can be changed by twisting the knob on the relay.

    nice simple explanation. Question: I have the same push in switch and want to use it to wire all 4 car lights to my hazard flasher. Can you suggest how to do this? Your setup uses 2 switches. Thanks.

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před 2 lety

      Using a hazard independently from the other two switches: Build the same circuit then add a third switch wire it the same except it will run 2 feeder lines from the same wire terminal on the switch send one to each light. They will use the existing commons as their return. You can parallel wire more lights from there. Let me know if a video would help... Thanks for supporting the channel.

    Okay I have a 2000 Mazda Miata and it's got a three terminal flasher and I'm changing it to LED and I can't find the direct plug-in one so I'm going to have to make a little wire harness and this explains everything to me how they work thank you very very much! All the terminations are in the switch on the column so all I have to do on the Flasher is get power and ground and then power up to the column on the original harness easy peasy

  • @HAMMER_2.2
    @HAMMER_2.2 Před rokem

    Does that particular Flasher draw any current if none of the Switches are turned on?
    I've seen 2 pin electric flashers with just 12v input and Load pins. But since this one has a ground pin it got me wondering of it draws current? I like that it give the audible click.
    The 2 pin I bought doesn't have the click noise.
    I'd like to buy one of these instead but just wonder if there is a draw and if it would drain my battery.
    (I'll use a hot 12v input instead of switched ign input so my hazards can work with the truck off)

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před rokem

      I haven't measured it but I do not believe that it draws current when not in use the way it is wired in this video.

    Amazing video... short and easy to understand... One quick question: Would it be possible to use an actual motorcyle turn signal switch in this circuit instead of using the regular push button in the video? If yes, can you explain how to connect the motorcycle turn signal switch to the circuit in this video... thank you

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před rokem

      Yes you can. The switches In the video are maintained buttons. Meaning they stay on or off until they are pressed again. The same as a switch would. If you have a specific switch build the circuit and wire up the normally open contacts.

  • @upsguy9380
    @upsguy9380 Před rokem +2

    Excellent video, sir. One quick question, would it be difficult to tie this setup to the ignition switch so that the turn signals become operable only when the key is in the "on" position? In other words, which wire would connect to the ignition switch? Thank you for your patience.

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před rokem +2

      Wire it to the ignition switch contacts by wiring the positive side of the battery to the ignition then from the ignition to the circuit.

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před rokem

      You may be tied into the wire with both lights in parallel which would be perfect for hazard lights. Make sure the pos side of each light is isolated from each other so it only runs a positive signal to one light at a time.

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před 3 měsíci +1

      One way this could be accomplished without a controller is that each light could have its own relay and each light relay would have a potentiometer set to a different position so that each light could be on or off for different periods of time this would require some different wiring methods than what is shown in this video. There are other ways to do this but the easiest way is to use some sort of controller so you can control the outputs for the coils of a relay for the period of time of your choosing.

    • @offgridutah1

      The click is from the relay because it has moving parts inside. Solid state relays wouldn't make that sound. It is possible to change relays, but solid state relays usually last longer.

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Fusing will protect your setup from mistakes or accidentally touching pos to neg. If that happens the wires will become a fuse and the insulation/wire coating will catch on fire.

    • @RavenKitten
      @RavenKitten Před 7 měsíci

      thank you. if i directly wire my turn lights to my 12v motorcycle battery using the setup here without a fuse will there be too much electricity from battery and blow the turn signal bulbs or with the flasher switch only let so much electricity through? thanks. Raven@@offgridutah1

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @RavenKitten it will not let to much electricity through. Lights will draw power based on their wattage. It will work. It's not safe if it the wire loses insulation... That is what will allow to much electricity through. Lights act like a resistor and only allow a finite amount of amps through.

    • @RavenKitten
      @RavenKitten Před 7 měsíci

      ok thank you. that was what i was trying to figure out. what is making sure the watts and amps are correct for the lights? was it the fuse, the flasher, or the lights themselves. Raven@@offgridutah1

    • @offgridutah1
      @offgridutah1  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @RavenKitten voltage of the lights should be compatible to the battery voltage. In this case 12 volts. The fuse must burn before the wire so it's the weakest link. Watts/volts=amps.
      Add up wattage of the bulbs /12 volts = amps use the amps to look at a wire size chart. Bigger wire size handles more amps. Make sure the wire can handle the amps and run while on continuously as well as the fuse, as amps get close to the fuse rating, they shouldn't be getting close to the wire size rating.

      You would need to use a regular relay that is triggered to turn on when the blinker gets powered and you would wire the coil as a start stop circuit with memory.
