Back in 1990 or so, Foxe's Book of Martyrs was making its way through my church. The pastor told me I NEEDED to read it. Well, when I did I didn't react with the tears and sorrow everyone else in the church were showing. They saw what they could be called on to either live through...
Or not.
I saw what Holy Ghost was able to strengthen weak, simple people like me to endure and/or die like for Jesus' name sake. I WAS SO PUMPED THAT MY FRIEND HOLY GHOST COULD DO THAT EVEN FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME!!!
Instead of seeing why I was so excited in the Gift that made our brethren so willing to live or die for Jesus, they decided I was full of pride because I wasn't moved to tears and "brought to repentance because I wasn't devoted enough to Jesus to go through what they did".
It's all in our perspective. They turned into a bastion of the Law of Moses...
I left so I could pursue a life in Christ Jesus.
