- Aha! Moments is an experimental show that is initiated in the HOPE and DREAM of serving a mirror for us to see ourselves in other’s STORIES by discussing and spreading IDEAS, HOPES and DREAMS.
Guest: Ani Choeying Drolma
From the age of five, Ani Choying had to struggle to survive. Not a day went by without a beating from her father, without her fearing for her mother's life or her own. The day her father nearly stabbed her to death, she decided it was time to run away.
Ani Chöying escaped her violent home for a monastery in Nepal, where a Buddhist monk offered her sanctuary and understanding, teaching her to embrace life again. Cheeky and mischievous by nature, she rebelled against the rules of the community at first and delighted in flouting convention by learning kung fu.
One day, an American jazz guitarist heard the young nun sing and was so enthralled by her voice that he invited her to record an album with him. The royalty cheque was an unexpected windfall that enabled her to fulfil a long-cherished dream: to set up a school for young girls like herself, in a country where 80 per cent of women are illiterate. In 2000 Ani Chöying opened Arya Tara School, just outside Kathmandu. She went on to adopt a little girl, then two, and then another followed - until they became sixty.
Ani Choying now tours the world giving concerts, driven by her desire to help her young Nepalese charges.

Greatful interview
Great interview. I see first interview in Tibetan, but I saw many interview of Anila in Nepali.
Ani choyeing dolma song title[ fool ko aakha ma fool hai samsara ]touches 30 millions Nepali non Buddhist community , which led many interest on Tibetan Buddhism as before Nepali think Buddhism is only a religion for Tibetan and ethnic Tibetan people reside in Himalayan region now a days many appreciated Buddhism thought most having a Hindu tradition. This is small gesture of ani Cho yang
Before this interview of cause i know Ani choyang Drolma is very far from me but since today I feel very close to her thanks Ani la and Buchung la!
Great interview..
Wow. You in Nepal. I always watch your videos. Thanks we get to see many talented Tibetans.
Buchung la very very very Good and Your Aha Moments!
Great interview
Kudos to your team
Wow Anila i became ur fan after this interview 🙏🏻
Nepal has been the worst place for tibwtan refugees, and after all these years, the silence of the bhudist community of nepal is simply unfortunate and discouraging.
Shut up your mouth.
How dare to you said these.
Are you already forgot that Nepal government was how much kindness to Tibetan refugee in the first place.
now Nepal is changed.if one day India should be also change then are you also saying like these to them?
You're just shameless guy.
Nepal government gave the better places for Tibetan refugee lol but India not, they gave worst places like manu jika TILA and etc. At least learn from past and just react ok.
She's wonderful and beautiful women ever in this world. Buddha always blessed your activity.
Thanks ahnila ani true expression encouragement of self and All female ☸️🔥
When I listen to her my heart always in peace 😊❤
Best interview
Thank you so much for this enlightening interview. As a Tibetan female, I resonate heavily with what Anila has expressed in this interview. Especially what she said around at 12:25 to 13:00. Recently, a Tibetan male companion made an ignorant comment toward older, single women which was deeply rooted in prejudice and stigma that honestly shocked me and more so as this person is currently working towards a PhD. Therefore, it resonates when she says regardless of how educated one becomes, the age old patriarchal way of thinking is difficult to shake off - unless one consciously makes an effort to examine their thoughts/behavior and unlearn.
I know too well about how women in our community can be ostracised if you try and break norms. My own experience has completely put me off and I stay clear away from being involved now. Mind you, I founded NFP Tibetan charity in my teen years, raised awareness for community as well as undertook many initiatives for the community. Not to mention, it left me with no choice but to just give up and wash my hands off. It broke my spirit……yet I’m hopeful. Would I consider being nun? Perhaps 😂
Choela,great interview

I hope Ani la gets to go to retreat soon. I pray for that kind of opportunity for myself and family. It’s so true. At the end of day, our Buddhist practice is the only thing that gives us liberation from this life. I hope we all spread that to our loved ones and others.
