    I am old enough to have experienced this exact thing in airplanes. People could smoke at any time on a flight except at takeoff and landing - those were the only times that the "NO SMOKING" signs were illuminated - as well as when they were actually walking outdoors to or from the airplane, on the runway (jetways didn't exist yet.) And yes, small packs of cigarettes were placed on the meal trays, usually with the name or logo of the airline printed on them as well. These mini-packs were served to every single passenger, including kids! And as a kid, I personally received them on my meal trays. That is insane.

    Winstons really were a good cigarette. The 1960's Pall Malls were the best ones, too. A teenage friend of mine Dino Ricci, used to steal them off a ranch hand named Bob Toluse, who was about 30 and fooled around with Dino's 14 year old sister Leslie. They later married.

She outlived a lot of her friends and family, but the point is THEY did not live long full lived due to smoking. So many died horribly and painfully from cancer, emphysema, and strokes. AFAIK, the air quality was actually (counterintuitively) better on planes overall when smoking was permitted, as they had to have better circulation and filtration systems for obvious reasons. Once it was banned, airlines could and were all too happy to drop the more expensive means of ensuring air quality and circulation on board, so now it's supposedly worse and more "stale" than in the era depicted here. Go figure!

But even if you have all the smokers puffing away in their own sealed aluminum can at 30,000 feet the anti smoking fascists will still complain and demand it be banned. The sick part is that many of the same types that rail against tobacco want the taxpayers to fund safe injection sites and needle exchanges for heroine addicts up here.

      @@explorermike19 Back then smoking on a plane, or smoking anywhere, was just beginning to become the 8th deadly sin. Why would a group of non smokers purposely sit in the smoking section and then bitch about the smoke? Anyone can answer that. It's just like today. People put themselves into situations they oppose just to bitch loud about it so they can get their way. I've quit smoking years ago but I don't bitch when I see someone light up. I just don't purposely put myself in an environment for the sole purpose of bitching about what's happening around me the way many anti this and anti that people always do.

    • @explorermike19
      @explorermike19 Před 2 lety +6

      @@JL-lg8tk Why would a non-smoker sit in a smoking section on a plane? Well, first of all, in an airplane, when one person smokes, the whole plane becomes a smoking section. Smoke does not stay in one place. The other thing was that you could be in row right in front of or beside or behind a smoking section. That didn't mean it was smokeless. It simply meant that you were in row 28 and smoking started in row 29; right behind your head. Let's face it, smoking started out as a filthy culture and remains a filthy culture today. Good riddance.

    • @JL-lg8tk
      @JL-lg8tk Před 2 lety +1

      @@explorermike19 .. Cut the lecture. I was flying before any smoking restrictions were in place and a smoker could smoke no matter where he or she sat on the plane. Even flight attendants would take a brief break and you could see a couple of them light up. The pilot or co-pilot or flight engineer would step out of the cockpit and join them in a short smoke break. Among smokers there's going to be a more concentration of smoke in the area than it would be forward of the smoking section. Even though they could still smell the smoke and it would still drift forward. So why would a non smoker purposely sit in the smoking section? So they could bitch the same way people today put themselves in environments they disapprove of. Just so they can bitch. That was the point I was making in my initial post 9 effing years ago. Not how smoke drifts through the aircraft and how smoking is a filthy culture.

    For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
    Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. (James 4:4)
    When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Mark 2:17)

    Society has finally cleansed itself of the indoor polutants produced by smokers.
    Nearly every state now ban public indoor smoking. The hassle with inconsiderate smokers is now over.
    For you smokers that have a problem with the new order of things.....a good time to quit your filthy habit, isn't it.
