"Battleship" (2012) is a science fiction action movie that depicts a war between Earth and an alien fleet. The film is set in 2005, when NASA discovers a potentially life-sustaining exoplanet and initiates the "Lighthouse Project" to establish a deep-space communication array in Hawaii, attempting to make contact with extraterrestrial intelligence.
Years later, an alien spacecraft suddenly appears, and the Pacific United Navy fleet, which is in the midst of joint exercises, is tasked with making contact. The protagonist, Naval Lieutenant Alex (played by Taylor Kitsch), aboard a missile destroyer and accompanied by two other warships as a scouting party, approaches the alien vessel but is attacked, resulting in significant losses. Due to the alien ship deploying a shield, the rest of the joint fleet is unable to provide support.
After the destruction of the three modern warships, the remaining naval forces, left without ships, must destroy an alien-occupied communications station. Therefore, they resort to using the decommissioned USS Missouri, now a maritime museum, for a final assault. The film climaxes with an epic showdown between a WWII-era battleship and a high-tech alien vessel, showcasing a fierce battle between humans and aliens.
