EarthBound Beginnings is the first game in the Mother/EarthBound ( tasvideos.org/... ) series, known simply as Mother in Japan. It was localized for a 1990 US release, but wasn't released outside Japan until 2015. During that time, the original localized title, "EarthBound", was used for the English release of Mother 2 ( tasvideos.org/... ).
Long referred to as "EarthBound Zero" by fans, the game was finally given an official title for its Wii U eShop release.
This movie is done on the US prototype, which does not have the "bread crumbs" glitch used in our other movie ( tasvideos.org/... ) of the game. It does, however, have a run button, which means this movie may seem faster at times, even though it's a lot longer.

@@The93195 all you can really do is grind around 10 levels from the enemies at the beginning of the game, once you have a decent weapon, it's just a matter of outliving enemies to get exp

Those of us with asthma irl have good days and bad days. The runner chose to manipulate it for all the good days :)
*Ana was kinda slow and showed up after the aliens had already left, but reunited with her family nonetheless.
*Lloyd, after dying multiple times and realizing he really was weak, went back to his trash can at the top of Twinkle Elementary.
*Teddy, having nothing to do with the story at all, decides to disband his gang anyways and pursue a singing career.

The reason they pause randomly is to avoid enemy encounters. This is a common TAS trick and is useful when doing a save state playthrough.

Ok so when you use the bread you can use crumbs and then teleport you back

The ending of this TAS implies that Teddy suffered from a terrible injury (he got stabbed by someone outside of Ellay) and now he has fully recovered singing to children that he doesn't even know. And Ninten writing love letters to a girl he JUST met on top of Mt. Itoi and dragging her to see Teddy's show is pretty unsettling.

Mother/Earthbound Beginnings is one of my favorite games. 3rd to be exact, I'm always down for a play though of it even if it has a lot of "grinding"

It may be outdated, annoying, grind-heavy, unforgiving, lacking personality, lacking humour, completely blown out of the water by its sequels and abusable as hell (as shown in the video), but deep down I believe it is still a good game

Wait, you can beat EarthBound Beginnings without recruiting Ana nor fight Teddy and use 5 melodies instead of 8 before beating Giygas?
I'm assuming it has something to do with the way the melodies flag progress. I.E: assuming you've found these five melodies, the game basically just says "Yeah there's no way you got here without legitimately getting the whole melody right?"
Kind of like how you only need the last 2 medallions in Zelda 64 :V

this is the most impressive speedrun i ever watched
well it isn't really a speedrun, it's a TAS(tool assisted speedrun). that means someone gave a bot exact instructions on what movements when to make.
I'm not entirely sure if you knew that, I'm just saying it just in case.

I had no idea bread crumbs were a thing in this game. I just thought the bread was a regular food item.

@@BigMacOrange It's how Ninten teleported. He used bread to lay out bread crumbs at 3:23 and used those bread crumbs at about 4:18 to go back where he put the crumbs.
I never knew bread had the second use, _and honestly I'm kinda disappointed because it would've been so useful._

yes, because unblocking the path for the train requires Lloyd to launch the rocket 🚀
we don't need Teddy, Lloyd or Ana to defeat a dragon, but we need Lloyd to launch a rocket in the factory, and throwing a bomb, and everything else can be done by only Ninten himself

TAS means Tool Assisted Speedrun, so of course he used cheats or hacks or edited the trail a bit. He/She even said so in the title.

I think it had to do with when they paused from time to time.
The menuing you see happen occasionally is setting up the perfect frames to either avoid fights altogether, or get the Starman fights you see near the end. Many games like this have their "RNG" set to frames.
it has to do with the menu opening and closing. every time you move your cursor in the menu, a lot of rng elements are altered due to frames passing. its sorta like why some speedrunners in smb1 hesitate before touching the flagpole, waste time to save even more time. the trick also works in mother 2/earrhbound!

So then ending is actually really good since ana reunited with her mom teddy is a singer now the kidnapped grown ups are back and lloyed is a hero at his school but ninten went to sleep after seeing everyone happy since he did help them all mother 2 continues with ness as the new hero going to stop giygas again after discovering a new set of 8 melodies and lucas pulled the last needle and watch his brother die these games are sad in the end like how ninten lost eve even though she protected him and like how lucas lost almost his whole family and then ness said goodbye to his freinds

Beam3178 he was manipulating RNG for fights. Every time the game is paused, the amount of steps until the next random encounter is reset. I’m guessing the amount of time sitting in the menu sets up the luck for the fights.

Why did the robot not show up at 24:20? I know it appears after the dance with Ana in the house, so because she’s not there does the game not restrict just Ninten and Lloyd?
The big red one? It only appears if you try and go to the house with Eve in your party.

The laststarmen basically killes themselves. So all in all he only killed 2 enemies.
Well it’s a lamp just an object under giygas control and the star man is basically a kill so I say it would be 1 real kill

I played through EB Zero, which had both. It’d make sense for EB Beginnings to have those as well though.
Edit: I watched a Mother 1 speedrun, and it seemed that you could walk diagonally but you couldn’t run.
