I love Virgil, the man has been playing since he was 3 years old! He grew up in a musical family and never looked back! What a great guy too! I was fortunate enough to meet him at a clinic in Connecticut, and had a lesson with him! Thanks Virg!

@42:40 This moment is precious. Drummers should always know how to play this quiet. But here's Virgil's spin on that. He's taking the coordination to another level. There's a back and forth between his left hand and right hand. His left foot also is a leading voice in this yet sounds to be in the background. Independence and coordination beautifully at work. I could go on but the whole movement there is stellar. Essentially good jazz-funk/fusion drumming. ;)
@42:50 Starts throwing accents on the hi-hat. And listen for the right foot, its whole assertion. Then hitting tom here and there. Progressive drumming at work. Anyone loves to hear more of this, check out Symphony X, preferably 'The Divine Wings of Tragedy' album. Changed my life early college years.
Great choice to watch Virgil Joshua. I haven't checked him in a while. A lot of technical things to learn here for sure.
Polyrhythms... sounds like 3/8 to double bars 6/8 overlaying 4/4 and occasional 3/4 time... But he/they are switching it up here and there too...crazy grooves man.

Best drummer I have seen in my life. This type of drummer comes once maybe in a lifetime. He is the drummer we all wish and dream we all could be.

I don't understand the point of this. You comment so little about what's going on. "Clean" is about all you say. But his playing is deeply complex, polyrhythmic and yet deceptively simple at times. Help us and break it down... like here he's in 4 on the hight hat, tapping out 5 with the snare and 3 on the right foot and alternating between 3,4,5 on the ride. Anyhow, Virgil's plaing is insane, we all know that at least.
He is nasty but his off time stuff has a disjointed feel…

Unfortunately, I absolutely don’t like such dissonant music, nor such a dry, mathematical accompaniment of a drummer with the face of an unhappy and tormented person.
Over the years, I realized that drummers technic is not everything. The most important thing in music is to have a developed musical taste.
