    Snagit: A screen capture tutorial
    How to use Techsmith Snagit 2021
    All screen capture is not created equal.
    System Screen Capture and free snipping tools don't hold a candle to Snagit!
    I have used Snagit for over 5 years and it has become an indispensable tool for me.
    If you need to capture anything and everything that appears on your computer screen, markup the capture and share it, from websites to applications to videos to documents then Snagit will do the job.

      using legit snagit for years, video capture is crap tbh. it records external sounds thru the speakers, not thru the system.
      In a meeting or whatever conference if u use a bluetooth kit it wont record anything but ambient sound of the room, this is really disappointing

    If you get to the point that you see the value in this amazing program but the price seems a little steep remember one thing, this is a truly “you get what you pay for” item. You will have the ability to produce outstanding presentations and audio visuals. It will seem a tad overwhelming at first, but as you navigate and produce you will sit back and smile knowing that you are able to be a level above your competition. Lastly, Steve you are one of the best! Your personality and presentations are top notch!

    Hey Steve! Love SnagIt! Love Dotto Tech! What a great combo! I have been a TechSmith enthusiast for years as well, mostly due to SnagIt and Camtasia. When making screen captures, one of my favorite tools is simplify where I can place bars over images and text, but remove them from just what I want folks to see. So many uses for SnagIt - so little time. Thanks for sharing!

    It's nice to see PC and can do basic default functions that are on the Galaxy Note series and SPen since forever ago. I wish I came across this PC software a long time ago because the desktop was a clunky experience trying to screenshots and share in general. But now I see the mobile workflow dominating as you are not tethered to a ball and chain of a PC at a location plus mobile chips are powerful for up to 8k video editing. I'm waiting for the Samsung S8 Ultra tablet that comes with an S-pen and with that all the crazy stuff you can do with thanks to the Note series smartphone. I live a mobile computing life. I may give this a try if I'm stuck doing work on the ole desktop.

    I used to be a big fan of snagit. Used it for I bet over a decade professionally. Now there's the built in snag routine. Hit Windows+shift+s. It's on every windows 10 box. Now you can cut whatever you want and paste it into something like Word. No saving a file or any of that. This is the way I do it now.

    Lots of features indeed. But I also find it a little time-consuming to use. For quick captures that require just a frame, an arrow or a quick textbox, TechSmith also has the free "TechSmith Capture", which takes the place of my beloved but sadly departed Jing.

    It does not mean that SnagIt is ultimate.
    I face lot of issues everytime after some idle time. It gives me blank or black pages when I capture a screen after some usage.

  • @olbaze
    @olbaze Před 2 lety +1

    I think your end summary can have a darker undertone to it: A tool that gets better over time means that leaving that tool becomes more and more difficult. This is exactly how platforms and ecosystems end up locking users into them.

    • @dottotech
      @dottotech  Před 2 lety

      Why would you attach a negative connotation to that?
      A company improves it's product and you consider it to be manipulative?

    • @olbaze
      @olbaze Před 2 lety

      @@dottotech Not manipulative, just a potential vector for abuse. If you develop a good product, and get people invested in it, then you may reach a point where you can do pretty much whatever you want, and the users will accept it as the new standard, because leaving has become too costly. A great example of this would be Adobe with their Creative Cloud. I personallly know people who have used Adobe stuff professionally for a long time, and they can't afford to leave it, but at the same time they don't like paying subscriptions for a bunch of apps they will never use.
      Personally, a similar concern has lead to me moving to using Linux instead of Windows. Microsoft looks to be piloting their programs to subscription models, and Windows is becoming a datamining/advertisement platform. I didn't want to risk a scenario where one day I wake up, and Microsoft has announced that the next Windows version will require a 9.99€/month subscription and everyone on older versions of Windows will be forcibly upgraded to it.
      All that being said, your demonstration of Snagit does make it look like a very powerful tool for quick, easy, minor photo editing stuff. Probably great for making custom CZcams thumbnails, or adding helpful pictures to a PDF guide.

    Looks like great software. Can you setup hot keys?I’ve been using greenshot for free for years. I use it almost daily.
    The editing, text capture, and ability to capture video looks like a good value. Next time I need to do some marketing materials I might have to spend some of my moldy money lol.

    Great video… love Snagit. What software are you using to capture/create and edit this video?
    Screenflow?
    Camtasia?
    Premiere Pro?
    ???

      Hello, Russell. For this video, we used Camtasia. You can also use Screenflow.

    But what about Camtasia when it comes to screen recording?
    Am I only able to capture part of my screen using Snagit, while Camtasia can only capture the entire screen?

    Nice video, but...I don't get a "scrolling window" I am on the free trial - also, when I do the panoramic capture then try to share it, the image is tiny...when I enlarge it, it gets blurry. Is there a fix for these? Thanks!

    Hi Steve, thank you so much for all your valuable tutorial. Whenever I need help on topics related to computer tech and software, your channel is one of my favorite resource library to go to. May I know what screen casting software you are using to create the above tutorial? Is it possible to create a similar talking head video using Screenflow ( with a round shape talking head and an outline for the circle where yours is orange in color)?

      Great to hear Alvin. We did this week's video using another Techsmith tool, Camtasia. But you could most certainly do it as well in Screenflow. We used to use it exclusively, but have switched to Camtasia because it has better workflow features.
      Here is a 3 part series on how we used to produce our videos

    I am confused about where my screenshots would be kept. Heather Major's comment below reads as though SnagIt is an online product. Does this mean I cannot save the work I do to my own computer?

    The built-in Snipit tool made Snagit obsolete for my needs and it's free.

    Are you using the paid version now?

  • @wkwtoywhiteknobwindups8587

    Thank you for sharing - may l ask, is it possible to produce a video detailing how you put your video together in terms of using zooms and pans on the screen and, (for me, most importantly) how to produce the cool cursor effects such as the orange animated dash circle - just love that. If you have already produced a video on these topics, apologies, l haven't found it yet so perhaps a helpful nudge in the right direction is needed.
    Smiles, Su :)

      I have a series on how we create our videos here dottotech.com/make-youtube-video-tutorials/, But we are now using camtasia instead of Screenflow, and have changed our process a bit. We do have some videos planned for next months on our new process, so keep your eyes oprn!
