I appreciate the channel, Russ, and all your decades of dedication to learning and informing us all on the subject. It shines light and makes the frustration and anger shrink when we can understand why our brains are doing what theyre doing. Or NOT doing what they should. 😅 Seriously, thank you. 🤝
Hi doc! Love the videos. I was wondering if you could look at research between adhd and the menstrual cycle. As a woman there certainly parts of the month everything seems work optimally with medication - and I have heard there is a link between the levels of estrogen and dopamine? Would be super interesting!
Finding the videos of your talks lead me to get tested and treated for ADHD for the first time, at 34 years old. I now feel confident that I can pursue so many of the unfinished goals and aspirations that I've struggled and failed to attain my entire adult life. My new baby daughter also now has a higher-functioning, more mindful, and more self-aware father thanks to that treatment. So, I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for being an excellent communicator and dedicated advocate for us, Dr Barkley. It means the world to so many of us to now have the necessary tools to get our lives back.
That last one about GPs just blow my mind. I remember going to the doctor so much for ear stuff and i also had a language imparment... fun times. I wish more GPs know this information.
Hey doc, youve done a great job with keeping up with adhd topics, wanted to know about limbic system dampening effects of dopamine and how it differs from serotonin in that sense
Hi Russ, thank you for your work, I always look forward to watching your videos and I have learned so much from them. I heard somewhere that people with ADHD tend to have problems with reading mechanics, like eye teaming and scanning. Are you familiar with this, and if so, would you be able to expound on it? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us!
Their eye movements tend to reflect more distractions when reading but the biggest issue in reading is with comprehension due to the work memory problems. Be well.
Hi Russell, hope all is well, love your videos, I was wondering if there was any chance you could do a video on study designs, I’m a 2nd year psych student with adhd looking to become a clinical psychologist one day, and I’ve found your way of explaining articles and your analysis on the study design itself outstanding and find myself learning a lot more about research and dissecting articles from you when compared to university lecture. Regardless thank you for your consistent and helpful content :)
Thank you. I doubt that topic would do well here but have a look at the book by Booth and colleagues called The Craft of Research or Creswells book on Research Designs. Good luck in school.
@@russellbarkleyphd2023 awesome, that is good to hear! Thank you for the videos - I have recommended your channel to my psychiatrist, because he seems like he likes to keep up to date with research, but I know he's super busy, and I thought these weekly recaps from you might be time effective. All the best.
could you do a video on ADHD and diet and such? FAILSAFE/FODMAPS, for example. I've heard this is good for ADHD (and also Autism) and diets make me suspicious. Funny enough, at the same time, I've been doing well with a low-carb diet for a while (I need to lose weight because of fatty liver and a growth on my kidney)
Will the lay pubic ever be shown video evidence of this alleged genetic disorder, this scourge that underpaid overburdened teachers and underpaid overburdened families are now forced to contend with? Obviously there are internal (to the field) ethical concerns with sharing such information, but strikingly there were no (internal to the field) concerns with sharing the viral idea of this alleged genetic disorder with the public without visual evidence, other than ivory tower social science.

I am also quite curious about this.
also, role of hormones for the huge numbers of women who are diagnosed with ADHD during peri-/ post-menopause.

I laughed when you said in your lecture “this child is Donald Trump incarnate and there’d better be a deal”

Always cool to follow these short videos.
May I ask: Is "The Replication Crisis" as big of an issue in ADHD research as it is in some other fields?
No, it’s really in social psychology that we see the greatest issue with failure to replicate. Not so much ADHD. Be well.
