  • Let me tell you, this thing is no joke! If you have compaction like me or wanting to start a garden you might want to till it up. I decided to buy the EGO 9.5 Cultivator for you guys and try it out. I believe in the EGO line and they have yet to let me down. I can't imagine there being a better cultivator than this bad boy so it gets my best of the best top rated! But then again besides my manual cultivator this is the only one I have ever used! Hopefully this video helps you with your decision and leave a thumbs up. Maybe even subscribe because its free!

    This is a neat little tool, but don't overload it. I was using mine to tear up an overgrown flowerbed with lots of vines and roots. I hit a fist-sized rock and it killed the motor. Took it to the shop and they said that one of the capacitors burned up and melted through the main circuit board. I've only used the powerhead motor a few times since I bought it in May of '22. EGO is replacing it, so I can't really complain, but now I know that this is a light gardening tool. It's not made for heavy duty tilling work. The battery has the power, but the motor and electronics in that powerhead aren't built for it. I have a bunch of EGO tools and I like them, but this is one a little more fragile than the others.

      @@TheNeighborDominator I'm ordering mine from Amazon and am getting their service package for it, so hopefully I won't have to deal with Ego's customer service. I will say right off the bat this thing looks like it digs deeper than the ryobi tiller I just picked up.
    The motor housing on mine is down between the tiller blades and takes up a lot of space, even sitting on hard ground there's like an inch of clearance before it bottoms out on the motor and won't dig deeper. Works great in deep semi loamy soils but is a total bastard on clay.

      @@TheNeighborDominator ah nice. I did the same with my ryobi just maybe about 550sq ft of area for my yard for a new lawn. Took about an hour and a half over two days but it was some pretty rough ground, super dry colorado clay which is basically cement.
      I'm not even going to attempt the other half of my yard, as the maple aeration roots are too intense and I don't wanna shred em too much. I'll have to settle for the rake and patience lol.
      It'll be great for tilling some garden beds though.

    I have used my EGO power head for about 60 minutes. One day with the broom and for 15 seconds with the cultivator. I started cultivating some sandy soil when the cultivator hit a small rock. I bent down and tossed the rock to the side. I tried to start the cultivator again, but it did not start. The battery is fully charged, and I have tried a second battery, too. I can spin the rod in the power head freely, but it will not turn with power, the battery blinks red when I try. I contacted EGO and they say the stone is a natural accident and not covered by warranty. I say something must be wrong with the wand and I want it checked. They continue to say that the rock has damaged it and the warranty does not cover it. I have asked to have this escalated up and have someone call me. They did after several days, but still repeat their written script that the rock has voided the warranty. It’s a garden cultivator, you will hit some small rocks. Common sense tells me there must be something wrong with the power head, but they continue with the script, the rock has voided your warranty. So, the wand lasted for 60 minutes. That is an expensive hour. Making me more frustrated with EGO is trying to connect with a human. I have spent over 90 minutes, (three phone calls) listening to the on-hold music. The first time I connected with them, we were disconnected at 5:00 PM. I tried to call back only to find out they were closed for the day. That was very disturbing. I have bought the cultivator, broom, edger, and string trimmer in hopes of getting my area cleaned up this summer. So far, my experience has been very dissatisfying with EGO and I cannot recommend them.

    • @TheNeighborDominator
      @TheNeighborDominator  Před 2 lety

      Damn man! That is a horrible story. I, like you, have purchased all my ego stuff but have never had a problem. If I had any connections with ego I would call them for you but they don't communicate with little people like me. I'm sorry this happened to you

    • @paulseverson2307
      @paulseverson2307 Před 2 lety

      It sounds to me like a connection problem. How many times have you tried starting it again after waiting a bit? You might want to try having your wife or friend call EGO like it's their product and DON'T MENTION hitting the rock. Just tell them about the cultivator stopping and not starting again.

    • @jeffbrazill764
      @jeffbrazill764 Před 2 lety

      What a terrible experience. Can you return the item to where you bought it?

    • @HawkGTboy
      @HawkGTboy Před rokem

      Same exact thing happened to me. I hit a rock and the thing died. I was really working the thing though. I was using it to clear out the roots of some multiflora hedge that I had cut down. The locked rotor drew more current than the electronics could handle and one of the capacitors melted. I took it to a local "authorized service center" dealer and let them deal with EGO. Much less painful than waiting on the phone. EGO replaced it and it's on the way. Total down time was about 3 weeks.
      Going forward, now I know that this little motor has limits. This thing is a light gardening tool, it's not made for actual clearing work. EGO likes to say that their products have equal power to gas equivalents but not in this case. Listen to the motor as you're using it, if it sounds like it's "straining" then you're risking burning the thing up.

    • @100GTAGUY
      @100GTAGUY Před rokem

      Sounds like the shaft for the rotors sheared off the motor internally which may have tripped a failsafe feature in the circuitry.
