    I wish they would release all Broadway show's on DVD. I know it's difficult legally and really expensive, but to have shows recorded for those of us who aren't lucky enough to see them in NYC is priceless.

      Paul Keegan Yep! I think one day it will happen. Clearly theatre is popular, probably the most popular its been in decades.They might argue that a recording will stop people from going to see it live....but I don't think so. VHS and later DVDs and now digital downloads hasn't killed off the cinema industry. Not even pirating has killed it. Part of me thinks, see it live or don't see it at all, but it's nearly impossible for fans of the genre to see everything they want to locally...... or even in/on the same continent. On the upside, movie musicals seem to making a slight comeback, so there's still hope. And on the b-roll thing...you KNOW someone, somewhere has a full recording of the show. I don't believe for a second they aren't filming their own productions in their entirety.

      Justin M Yes! I agree, however for the b-roll thing, they only record a few highlight scenes... BUT I would love to have a professionally done taping of the show.
      Perhaps to be release after it's closed, because I can see a problem with "why go buy a ticket to see the show, when there's a dvd!" for their sales might bring them down a little bit. But, totally after the show closes, or after a certain number of shows for long runners.
      Your argument about how vhs, dvd, pirating haven't taken down the industry, the cinema and the theatre industry are two completely different things. While in the movies, even if they don't do well in the box office, they still have their dvd sales to count on... and pirating really does put a dent in the sales because thousands of people watch the movies online and don't buy them. In theatre, they depend solely upon the ticket sales, and CD+merch revenue, which is why they use big names to sell those tickets. Bootleg recordings don't help our demand either because even people who are able to go and buy a ticket and see the show are watching the bootlegs instead.
      I say that if the show closes before the release of the dvd, they should set it at a regular avg. dvd retail price... but to help ticket sales, if it's released at that certain number of shows, perhaps... sell at one of the lower ticket prices... I know it'd be unfortunate, but I'd rather pay ticket price for an ongoing musical dvd than pay for the expensive plane ticket, lodging, and on top of that the ticket.
      And another thing is, that producers are now starting to have the popular question, "What if we made this into a movie?" rather than recording it live on stage. And they may deter them from recording the stage, because no one likes to be competing for sales for the same story. No one.

      +Justin M Most public libraries have a lot of recordings of many broadway shows. Sometimes even newer ones,

      Fuhh Fuhher I'm not talking about cast recordings, I mean video recordings. If a cast recording is released, I automatically get it without hesitation. But DVD recordings of shows are severely lacking in my opinion.

      They were on stage together once, believe it or not! In "The Sweet Smell of Success" Musical with John Lithgow(That's right, Lord Farquaad of the Cinema's Shrek! Which means this show is the Actual first time Shrek and Farquaad have been on Broadway together! xD).

    Would love to see Christian on Show People next!

  • @FatimaSorianoOfficial

    He leaves Next to Normal Off-Broadway for Shrek, then returns for a run of it on Broadway before it finished. Then he also does Hamilton Off-Broadway, does Something Rotten, then returns as King George III on Broadway. Is there a name for this phenomena? Like, the BDJ effect or something? It's just so cool how every show he's done just draws him back regardless of timing issues because he's just that good. Which is why, as has been said a hundred times, he needs and truly deserves a Tony!

    A musical about composing a musical has already been done; [title of show] did this back in 2011, although it took place in contemporary New York City.

    • @SwissArmyCheese
      @SwissArmyCheese Před 9 lety +4

      Completely different. [title of show], is a show about two guys writing a show about two guys writing a show. No real profound storyline just s genius and hilarious idea. This show is almost the entire opposite. Actual characters, storylines, and happens to have a show in a show. [title of show] is absolutely not the first ever to be a show within a show either. Not even close.
