How to Shoot Multiple Targets | Rhythm Drill | Tactical Rifleman

  • WHY DO I NEED THIS?
    If I have made a decision to engage and my mind has processed that there are multiple targets/threats that are feasible to engage from the position I’m in, it’s reasonable to believe that I would want to be efficient (helps with speed) as I do that.
    Minimizing the time that it takes to shift from one target/threat to another will help to create that efficiency we want.
    A few points that must be understood are these; Your eyes are the key to processing information fast. They must move before the sights and gun even though it seems to happen almost simultaneously in many cases.
    If you find yourself “riding” the sights as you shift, slow down and begin to manually tell yourself, “EYES THEN SIGHTS”, as you perform.
    Another tip to become efficient at this type of drill is to use your hips and legs to shift your weight and gun instead of just swinging your upper body. This adds control to your speed.
    Lastly, if there is a spread between two targets of a distance that requires you to approximately turn all the way to your left or right (extreme shift), consider compressing the gun in to your chest as you shift and then extending toward the threat/target as you bring the sights in front of your eyes aligned on the second target.
    Bottom line: GO FAST WHERE YOU CAN AND SLOW DOWN WHERE YOU HAVE TO.
    Moving your eyes, body, and gun quickly to align with the threat/target does not usually have a negative effect on your marksmanship. Just make sure you don’t disrupt the sight alignment and picture while you press that little trigger thingy.
    This drill can be performed for dry fire time while at home during your social distancing.
    Focus on the moving of the eyes first, shifting the hips and weight from leg to leg, and compressing the gun as you make more extreme shifts (eg. 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock shift).
    For the eyes, just be sure you see a good ACCEPTABLE sight picture within the desired rhythm!

    It reminds of Jujitsu and Aikido where smoothness is more important than jerky speed. I could always tell that a person has years of experience by how smooth they do it. I have a lot to learn in the gun world.

    Damn Doctor has been telling me for years that the repetitive counting in my head is OCD. Wait till I tell him it's Rhythm and will help with shots at multiple targets. Hahaha I'm joking by the way great video same counting technique can be used also in other situations like if someone is swing a bat trying to hit you takes certain amount of time for them to bring it up, swing then control the follow through when they miss to bring it back up 1,2,3,4- 1,2,3,4-1,2,3,4 1,2 shoot in quick to close the distance bat is now pretty much useless in the attackers hands 90% of people wouldn't know what to do once you have gotten in close and taken the reach advantage the bat offered away they are screwed. The other 10% of people you wouldn't know were armed with anything till you feel it making impact with your body.

    I'm a drummer, and counting aloud (especially 8th notes as Zee does here) really helps in the development of timing anything that involves rhythm. But I think it's also helpful to run a metronome while working on transitions (or shifting!). You can literally just use the Google metronome and play it through speakers or headphones from your phone or laptop -- very easy to do in dry fire at home, and it works as a shot timer of a different variety! If you're at the range, you could use a pair of good electronic or passive isolation ear pro that allows you to run audio.

    Could y'all do a video on a cheap AR vs. an expensive AR? A question that comes up fairly frequently at work is 'why spend $2000 on something when there's a $500 one that does the same thing?' And it's never really resovled.

      That's like saying an Aston Martin and a Ford Mustang are similar. Yes, they both run the same speed. However, a lot of it comes down to personal preference. There is noting that I could say in a video that would change anyone's opinions on cheap vs expensive ARs.

    I tell you what I do when shooting at two close apart targets: one shot each very fast, I mean I transition from target 1 to target 2 in a split of a second, then two shots at each one as fast as I can. My reasoning is if I go for two or more shots at the first bad guy the second bad guy has plenty of time to shoot me. So one single shot at each one and then I can go for more. Maybe I'm all wrong but I swear I'm going for the mullet too. 👍

      The problem is, thise rounds take time to have effect(unless you get a CNS hit), so you're still facing two active threats. Put one down, then its one on one.

    Is it safe to aim when drawing the weapon? because in surprise there is no time, you try to focus on the front sight you cant when it fast

      Always confirm with your sights. We do NOT teach point shooting. Start slow and speed will come

    I dont see the point entirely. Sure cadance in general seems good, as you focus more on the shot. The big but is, a nice song leaves out the essitial part: hitting in time. Its great to minimize shifting time, however the doubletab (if up close) needs to be done (on target) as quick as possible to ensure maximum effect. The shift needs to be nice and organized, not the double tap per sè.
    So a bam bam...s...bam..bam is better than a bam.....bam.....s.....bam.....bam. Shifting quick: yes! Double Tapping on a cadance: no.

      This video has nothing to do with a “double tap“, as he says in the video this is for working on target transitions i.e. Eyes hips sights to the next target.

      justKdG just a drill to work shifting. Shoot as fast as you can accurately for whatever your desired result is.
