    Loulou had her teeth cleaned by a vet Wednesday. Coco was so concerned and sweet to Loulou and still is. All she wants is to be with Loulou.
    The vet had clipped Loulou's nails. Probably meant well, but I had already cut Loulou's nails the day before. Loulou's nails can't be too short. When Loulou was little I went to the vet to have her nails trimmed. Blood was everywhere because it was too far. For that reason, Loulou has developed a fear of the vet. Now her front paws and back paws were clipped too far. For this reason I cut her nails every 2 weeks but not too short.
    Loulou’s front teeth on the outside are always white, but her back teeth and the inside had tartar. Although her teeth are white and tartar didn't seem like much, it's a good thing we did because if we had been late, her back tooth would have had to be pulled out.
    Tartar (especially with small dogs) due to genetic predisposition and there is nothing you can do about it. The oral flora is different from large dog breeds. You can help by brushing their teeth. But if you forget and your dog quickly develops tartar, this will spread quickly.
    Diet has nothing to do with this genetic part. No special kibble, no raw food, nothing. Raw bones help for the gums and healthy saliva is less likely to form plaque. But if a dog has this problem because of the genes, no diet will help.
    Check your dog's teeth, also in the back. The bacteria can get into the bloodstream which can cause problems to their organs; kidney failure, heart problems etc.
    xxx Eveline

I didn't expect them to cut Loulou's nails when I didn't ask.I saw Loulou's bleeding paws when I was in the car, when my coat was underneath. There was already a lot that I didn't like about this vet. No connection with animals, it was a treatment and nothing more. I have worked with animals myself and reacted so differently to animals. It was an absolutely stressful experience but I'm lucky due to his age, 14 or so, at the time and never had his teeth cleaned before. Now he just has a cute gap in his lower jaw where 2 tiny teeth needed to come out. Otherwise nothing major had to be done with him and overall he's in pretty good shape for his age now - 16 in May! I hope the LL got all kinds of the warm cuddles and and doesn't have any ill effects from her vet visit.

    I am very cross with your vet for cutting LouLou's claws too short and making them bleed, when you had not even asked them to clip them!
    My little dog had a low quick to her claws too, so I always cut them myself, and was very careful not to take off too much. In the 13 years I had her, I never once cut them too short or made them bleed. I hope you told that vet off, it was very unprofessional and the sort of thing that makes an animal hate trips to the vet!
    Coco's concern for her sedated Mum is so precious. When she started kissing her I had tears in my eyes - she loves her so much! I'm so happy you let LouLou keep one of her babies, what a beautiful bond they share. Thanks for sharing them with us! XXX

    Eveline, I simply "adored" how attentive, Coco was to my sweet Loulou, when she came back from the dentist. Coco, was so protective and comforting to her mommy, Loulou. This made my "cold and snowy" weekend in my city just a lot "sunnier and warmer." Have a fantastic weekend. Take care 🧸

    My cat recently had his both top fangs removed along with one of his back teeth removed. Sad but had to be done. He was having trouble eating. I could tell he was in pain by how he was eating. He had diabetes that miraculously went into remission. Thank God. It was this that led to his rapid teeth deterioration I believe. He is now 100 percent at 12 years old and loving life again.Good on you for taking such loving care of ur fur babies.

    It’s amazing that with her diet she’d have much tartar, but small dogs are very prone to it. None of our dogs ever had their tongues hanging out after, but probably because our vets don’t let us take them home right away. Teeth cleaning is very important for doggies.

      I would definitely complain - and then I would change to a different vets practice.
      I am disgusted they a/ cut LouLou's claws without asking first b/ didn't notice they were already short so made them bleed (unforgiveable) and c/ didn't even own up to what they had done when Eveline collected her. The first she knew of it was when she found blood on her coat and LouLou's blanket, which must have been very alarming!
      That vet practice's conduct from start to finish was shockingly unprofessional! Poor LouLou's toes must have been sore. That can give a dog a phobia of the vet.

      When Loulou was a puppy her puppy tooth wouldn't come out and had to be pulled. Also under anesthesia. She also reacted like this. I was anxious and worried that they might have used too much. Because of that I had postponed this treatment but finally did it. she reacted the same now as she did then. I'd rather have her with me than have her lying there because she's terrified there. I didn't lose sight of her. Fortunately everything went very well. xx

      she probably didn’t keep her in their office while she was coming out of it for long, probably thought she was more comfortable at home. In the US, vets keep animals for a little while before calling owners to get them so the medicine wears off a bit before the owner sees them

    what kind of vet trims a dogs nails to the point of bleeding?

    • @Loulou_Friends
      @Loulou_Friends  Před 2 lety +4

      Apparently a vet who for a moment forgot that some Dachshunds have longer nail beds because they are bred to dig in burrows. Loulou has longer nail beds and her nails can't be too short. Just right so they don't hit the ground. When I told the vet that I had already trimmed Loulou's nails, she said: I've been doing this for 35 years. When I told her she was covered in blood, she said she had been scratched by a cat. Once in the car when my coat was full of blood, I saw that it was Loulou's nails. 😞

    • @leonischmid1375
      @leonischmid1375 Před 2 lety

      @michael sorry but what is this question 🤣 it is really hard to tell where the tip begins with a dog with black nails. On top of that every dogs tip is different. This can happen to everybody. But the vet should have seen that the nails are short enough but it is a standard procedure to do the nails when removing the tartar. So the vet probably wanted to make sure and probably hat a good interest because we know that nail cam grow really fast.
