- Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked Western leaders for sending tanks to support the fight against Russia, but said they needed to be delivered quickly.
In recent days, the US and Germany announced they would send Abrams and Leopard tanks to Ukraine, while Berlin also cleared the way for other European countries to donate German-made tanks from their own stocks.
Russia condemned the announcement as a "blatant provocation" and said any supplied tanks would be destroyed, while missile attacks on Ukraine’s capital have continued.
President Zelensky has also urged the West to send long-range missiles and fighter jets, to assist in the war effort.

Berlin already confirmed to send two German tank battalions, that equals 88 tanks. 14 is just the first batch.
How are 88 two battaillons? If a company consists of 14 tanks than a battaillon have to be a multiple of 14.

Regarding US Abrams tanks, the 31 committed are meant to work out logistics and training programs. Once these are fine tuned and tweaked, expect much greater numbers to reach Ukraine. The US has 3700 tanks just in storage...they could forward 300-500 tanks without batting an eye, provided the rest of the infrastructure etc. is in place.
The US tanks aren't allowed to be exported, the armor is still classified. No US Abrams tanks exist outside the control of the US Army, the others are watered down export versions which is what Ukraine will be getting

They also need to show that 50% just don't "disappear" in corruption in the first week , small numbers at first make great sense to test the waters before opening the floodgates so to speak.

Germany has welcomed over a million Ukrainian refugees. They have full access to the German systems of social security and health care, on the very same level as any German citizen.
Beside the USA no other nation has send as many arms and humanitarian aid to Ukraine as Germany, that includes the UK. Maybe it is time to realize that bashing Germany for it's "low level of support" is extremely hypocritical.
What exactly Germany send already and in what amounts? Can you point numbers?
Becose saying that no one besides USA send more arms then Germany is pretty bald statement knowing that Poland already send 250 tanks (T72), prepared another ~60 (PT91) to send in next weeks and add 14 Leopards on top of that. I can mention also hundreds of armoured vehicles, over 50 KRABS, dozens of other artillery vehicles, ammunition, aid care etc.
The world need to send the weapons to Ukraine to defeat Putin, to stop the war so Ukraines don't have to refugees in the other countries.
Someone helped Germany not to be destroyed by Russia and that was the USA. USA did not abandon Germany in their hour of need. No one is saying Germany has not done for Ukraine but Germany could do more and gather together a coalition of friends around the world and in Europe to help Ukraine. Yes and no. Modern Leo's have a longer barrel relative to the Abrahms (44 calibres vs 55) which means muzzle velocity for the same shell will be different.
They will still fire without issue, but the ballistics are different, which can cause issues with the aim and the onboard computers.

@@aenorist2431 Assuming it has not changed in the past 20 years it works like this. They set up a gun on a range so it does not move. They fire multiple rounds into a target. Each lot of rounds even the exact same round will be slightly different. They then calculate what offset is needed to bring the strike to center. On the tank when you get new rounds that offset is given to the gunner for that specific lot. In a similar fashion there would be a different offset for different barrel lengths. That is way outside the scope for the gunner .. he or she only needs to enter the data into the computer. Then the gunner zeros his tank. This process is similar to how you zero a rifle. You fire a couple of rounds into a target. The master gunner looks at it and tailors the offset specifically for your tank. On a rifle range you do the same thing, look at where the rounds group and adjust the rear sight to move the center of the group to the center of the target. The same thing is done on the tank. Easy peazy.

Also, from 2014 Ukraine has been oppressing the separatists in Donbas and Luhansk. Since we're using facts, why would they not just give them their independence? Russia negotiated over the last 7 to 8 years to no avail. Putin's operation was simply to aid the ethnic Russians from persecution under the Zelensky regime. Ukraine took that as an act of war and started fighting. So of course, Russia wasn't going to sit back and let Ukraine attack.

Well i am German, and i don´t, because my government has dragged its feet, and thereby damaged Germanies reputation needlessly. I just wish that for once they would have made the decision that, i was sure they would arrive at, a little bit sooner, skip any political maneuvering, and for once do the reasonable and moral thing without hesitation... but Scholz waited until everybody was mad at Germany, so i won´t give him ovations for finaly caving in.

Your country took in a million Ukrainian refugees, it got off Russian gas in the most effective way despite being the most reliant on it (LNG ports, if the weather wasn't this warm, it'd have paid off), has begun sending tanks not too much later than other countries. The feet dragging has been an insignificant delay.
There are other countries in the world doing absolutely nothing or even supporting the invasion, Germany is one of the leading allies of Ukraine and that is good enough.
More than that you've bumped up your defence budget, which is more important as if everyone could defend themselves then you wouldn't need to rely on support. The Germany of today is many times more capable than Russia.

The issue with the Challengers is that there aren’t enough of them & the logistics train is even more complicated than it will be for Abrams. Challenger 2s use a different gun, different ammo. Like a lot of British kit it’s excessively bespoke for a combined arms operation.

The real game changer: At least 50-100 HIMARs (equipped with the 150 to 300 km missile variants and not just the current 80 km ones), 20-40 F-16s (or just 3-5 F-22 Raptors to achieve real air superiority), At least 200-300 Bradleys (that will attack at night and not during the day). Give those to Ukraine and expect them to get their territories back including Crimea in a month (Summer or Spring). Abrams, Challengers, and Leopards are very powerful weapons, but you need to plan strategies around them. Those 3 weapons I mentioned in the beginning are super versatile and frankly are the ones that actually fits what Ukrainian forces are trying to achieve. I am telling you all now, those Bradleys will outperform all tanks fielded by both sides in this war, and I will expect Kiev to ask for more of them in the near future instead of calling for more tanks.

After the US, Germany is already the largest supporter of Ukraine in terms of money, arms and taking in over 1.1 million Ukrainian refugees. One could suggest that they might be far better off supplying long range armed drones in significant quantity in the near term, rather than fighter Jets. i.e. like the Reaper drone etc... These could be deployed far sooner. i.e. within 3 to 6 months. The Reaper drone has a payload capacity of 362.8kg. Thus it could carry 100 GPS guided switchblade 300s at 2.7 kg each, plus the weight of a rotary drone deployment cartridge system. Basically meaning that it could be deployed against 100 light armoured vehicles with a 90% hit rate. Thus it could destroy or disable 90 vehicles in one sortie, with near no risk to the pilot. They could also have it able to deploy the Phoenix Ghost drone and Switchblade 600s for destroying heavier targets. This could extend the range of these weapons, as the reaper has an 1,800 km total range, thus about 700km each way allowing for a 20% fuel reserve. This effectively means your switchblade 300 gets an extended target range of 700km, plus it's original 40 km range, thus totalling 740km, there about. They could take off from roads and of course runways, thus making them less easy to detect etc... I would rather have 2000 anti tank drones going up against 1000 tanks any day of the week. With a 90% hit rate for drones, Vs near zero for the tanks, it's game over before it even gets interesting. Do the cost benefit numbers also. One SwitchBlade 600 reported costs around $10,000 per unit, in volume production. One modern tank costs millions. A tank doesn't retain the advantage of being reusable, if it's been destroyed by a kamikaze drone. So that is a dead rubber and it then comes down to cost and volume production rates. ( again in the drone's favour ). If the invader has no operating tanks, then the defender doesn't require as many tanks either.

NATO should not hesitate with the requirements on Ukraine as they are the ones fighting the war one on one. Sooner the war is over faster the supply of weapons can be put to a halt. Longer the delay more the requirements will continue to evolve.
