Biiiiig agree that Emet-Selch reminding us of all the parts of the world that we haven’t seen yet and Hythlodaeus saying he hopes we meet again somehow was a maaaaassively comforting moment. At this, the last walk, after crying so many tears about the end of it, I think we all needed to remember that it isn’t the last walk! Not by a long shot! And there are still so many sights and stories to look forward to and march onwards to experience. For all his prickliness, Hades really was tipping our chins back up, telling us to cheer up. 💙 Everyone talks about Zenos breaking the fourth wall there, but I feel Emet and Hythlodaeus did a little too. That moment felt like Yoshi-P and the dev team telling us, “Hey, I know it’s been a long journey and you’re sad right now, especially if you’ve been with us for years. But, I promise you, there is still so much fun to be had. I won’t let you down. So stay! Please look forward to it!” 😉💙

Funny coming back reading this, cause it was exactly this, given Yoshi P's recent words on why the release was post-poned, and whilst this wasn't only it, it was a big reason, wanting to add that scene that didn't exist as it felt very abrupt without it and it was like loving words from the devs that this isn't the end, don't worry.
It was still pretty telling, as many guessed, but was nice hearing it officially and that it was the scene they added after the MSQ was finished and felt very important, cause it'd felt empty without it and had some wondering even if they kept saying this isn't the end of FF14. It's just reassuring and warming to hear from what could be considered one of the main characters of this arc introducing us to the possibilities of the next, while you got the other main character (Zenos) reminiscing for us the arc itself and how it felt for us.

@@jkranites He did temper them but with Elder-Primals the enthallment works differently. For starters, Ascians have ALOT more aether so they do not suffer corruption like unsundered mortals do plus it actually BOOSTs power (which is why Hades's 2nd form is Huge while our WoL can deflect Susano's huge blade with their bare hands). The only time we see Hydaelyn use her enthrallment is on Ardbert when Minfilla uses it to immobilise him until he calms down.
Another thing is that the Spell the Ascians used to create Zodiark fills those bound to him with the Desire to restore him and Etheris (plus Ascian never worshipped there creations before Zodiark, they treated them like things and only revered the planet itself. The tempering from Zodiark also made them obvious to the suffering of others as they were more tjan willing to sacrafice more lives to feed Zodiark)

Zenos was basically asking before the fight was.
"You are deemed a hero by others, but i know you.....you live for s better fight, a challenge, a battle that will be worth it. A mighty ending. You live for that battle no?"

I see this as a moment where we can actually connect with the person inside the monster Zenos is.
His childhood was nothing but loneliness and abandonment. All he had were books and solitude until he discovered excitement in combat. He is an adventurer at heart that rotted under the weight of Garlemald. We’re adventurers, too. We strive for a better world and help people along the way, but more than once we stick our head into dangerous holes looking directly for conflict.
We aren’t like him, but when he challenges that we also enjoy the sport of it he isn’t wrong. Neither for the WoL, but also for us, the player.
In that moment Zenos is our foil, and I acknowledge him and award him with the excitement of that no holding back fight at the edge of the universe for being the literal ground we stand on to save the universe.

Buuuuut, if you rewind... and go back to Elpis, when Meteion delivers her first report, she states that one of her sisters found a world that had life on it, that very quickly annihilated each other in a civil war. It was because of that strength that he persues you to the literal edge of the universe wanting to relive those moments to their fullest even if it killed him or you. He was still who he was, but he forged his own life's meaning and never let any one else dictate that. It fulfilled his desires. That was the meaning of his life, and he alone controlled that.

Zenos's challenge is a stroke of brilliance. The philosophy of FFXIV's design is underpinned by the desire to make an experience that caters to as many types of people as possible who might play the game, from first-timers to casuals to hardcore sweaties to people who just want to experience a good time with their friends. Zenos is a way of carrying the "gamer" portion from FFXIV's overall game design and into the story specifically - people who love the challenge of playing games. Zenos's speech makes that clear from the beginning when he indicates that he doesn't want to speak to you, the hero (aka the WOL, who isn't much of a person or personality at all beyond their heroic deeds), but "you," the person playing the game.
He then offers up a clear analog for the type of experience gamers tend to chase when he talks about trying your limits and meeting new challenges. He's essentially saying "yeah, it's nice to be a hero and it's nice to see events to a happy conclusion.... but the fighting is great, isn't it?"
Choice #1 is by far my favorite of the three, and the reaction from both the WOL and Zenos is priceless. The man deserved at least that much. And he's correct about his assessment of (at least some of) the people playing the game.
Also, it's worth bearing that in mind when he gives his post-fight speech. There is a reading of the scene that has room for a commentary on the different types of relationships people have with games.

Or when I started Hildibrand quests and everyone was dressed like him and dancing around me unil the end of ARR quests.
Or even when I started Shadowbringers and the first time I got in Cristarium ALL MY FC was there waiting me to comemore my sprout off and i cried so much in discord.

I would share with her my "wedding" with one of my best friends (we got married for the swag, although the in character reason was to get her Gridanian citizenship.) G'raha happily eating his first hamburger. All the fashion shows I've participated in, all the photography sessions I've done. (Actually winning the occasional photography contest, too!) And the absolute joy of landing a big fish I'd tried for many times - the sun on the water, the dolphins splashing off the boat. Random spontaneous parties at our social linkshell's main house. Coming home to the FC mansion to discover the decorator had been at it again. Random piles of Behemoth mounts in Idyllshire. Spontaneous raves in Limsa. Arguments. Just so much joy to be had. Yes, sadness too - sometimes friends quit. A few of our friends have passed away forever. But we still remember them, and in that way, they still live on.
