    I am
    So frustrated. I have a singer 2277. I have tried all of your tips tricks videos. I’ve changed stitch length to 3-4, tension from 5 all way up to 9. Stretching flat as I sew , tightened and loosen bobbin casing, light weight fabric and still it is not working fabric shir is loose and or top thread popping ? Do you have any suggestions or does some machines just not shir?

  • @ashley0921
    @ashley0921 Před rokem +1

    Do you have to use a zigzag for shirring ? Or a straight stitch. I apologize I am new to this. I would assume zigzag for stretch but wasn't positive. Thanks it's beautiful

    • @rozetta5778
      @rozetta5778 Před 3 lety +4

      Try setting your machine to a tension of 4 or 5; and increase stitch length, I increased mine from 2 to a 3. Lastly you can adjust your bobbin tension by turning the screw on the bobbin case.

  • @lorenaguizar4995

    So the elastic thread only goes in the bobbin? The needle has normal thread?

    • @Tammy.Handmade

      Yes! So you only wind the elastic thread on the bobbin and the needle has normal thread xx

    Hi! How much fabric did you get? And did you adjust your stitch length or tension in some way for the shirring?

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  Před 4 lety +2

      Hey! I had a scrap of fabric that was about 55 inches wide and 30 inches high. So you could buy a metre of fabric, just make sure it’s wide enough. 😊 I didn’t actually have to adjust my tension or stitch length, I used a tension of 5, and then my normal stitch length for shirring. Just remember to backstitch and the beginning and end of each shirring line to secure it. Depending on your fabric or machine, you might want to play around with different stitch lengths and tension if it’s not shirring correctly xx

    what numbers/how wide do you set your zig zag stitch at? thank you!

    • @Tammy.Handmade
      @Tammy.Handmade  Před 3 lety +2

      You only use the zigzag stitch for attaching the side seam once you’ve finished shirring if you don’t have an overlocker. I would just use a general zig zag stitch or 2.5 length and 3.5 wide

    I don't think 1.5 × full bust measurement is a good idea. The top is going to turn out too big.
    Be sure before you cut any fabric

    • @SamanthaMadison197
      @SamanthaMadison197 Před 3 měsíci +1

      Shirring reduces the width of fabric by about half - so 1.5x the full bust measurement seems fine to me.
