thank you for this tutorial! it was easy to follow and the top came out so cute! next time I'd probably do a little longer than 10" tall, just cuz it's coming out more like a cute bra on me 😅 (and I'm not large-chested). but can't wait to make more!
So glad you love the tutorial ❤️
Love the music

For some reason I got two tops out of it (I must’ve measured it wrong) but they both came out beautiful!
Ah no! I’m glad it came out lovely for you xx
@@anjaliarackal2076 hey Anjali can you help me with the measurements ? I did not understand that bit ! 1.5x bust overall and then cut it into rectangles? Or 1.5 x bust front and 1.5 x bust the back part ? I hope you understood my question
Thanks for the great tutorial
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you liked it xx
This is a wonderful tutorial. I enjoy watching this video so much. You did good.
Thank you very much! X
@tammy handmade : I am a beginner to stitching and I would love to try this however I am a little confused with the measurements . Could you once tell me what length and width and how I could take them ?
Hi! I don’t provide the exact cm measurement in this tutorial as you need to measure your own body and follow my instructions on how to calculate it. I have a slide in this video sharing how to calculate the pieces you need to cut xx
Pretty projects
Thank you so much! ❤️
Thanks you
🙂🙂
this is a great tutorial!! what type of fabric works best for this? Thank you!
Thank you! Cotton or linen works really well as it’s super easy to use, but you could always use a nice viscose too. Xx
So do you just use the elastic only in the bobbin part and cotton as normal
Yes you only use elastic in the bobbin! Use normal thread in the top x
I am
So frustrated. I have a singer 2277. I have tried all of your tips tricks videos. I’ve changed stitch length to 3-4, tension from 5 all way up to 9. Stretching flat as I sew , tightened and loosen bobbin casing, light weight fabric and still it is not working fabric shir is loose and or top thread popping ? Do you have any suggestions or does some machines just not shir?
Do you have to use a zigzag for shirring ? Or a straight stitch. I apologize I am new to this. I would assume zigzag for stretch but wasn't positive. Thanks it's beautiful
No worries, you need to use a standard straight stitch!
@@Tammy.Handmade thanks
hi! thinking about making this with a white fabric I have and was just wondering how you get the pencil marks out?
Hey! Well I would normally use a rubber/eraser and lightly rub them out. Or you could use chalk that washes out, or Pilot Frixion pens are great and they wash out amazingly! Xx
Beautiful!! Can you please tell me what settings you used for it ? I tried it but it didn’t work ):
Try setting your machine to a tension of 4 or 5; and increase stitch length, I increased mine from 2 to a 3. Lastly you can adjust your bobbin tension by turning the screw on the bobbin case.
So the elastic thread only goes in the bobbin? The needle has normal thread?
Yes! So you only wind the elastic thread on the bobbin and the needle has normal thread xx
Full bust measurements in inch ?
Hi! Sorry if this was asked but when you double folded, was it roughly 1/2" then another 1/2" or more like 1/4" and 1/4"? Thanks!
Hey no worries! It was 1/2 inch and then another 1/2 inch :) x
Is each rectangle 1.5 times the bust mesurement or are they 1.5 times when added togeher?
They are 1.5x the bust when added together xx
Hey!! We add ×1.5 inches in bust and what about height?? Do we have to add some inches in height??
Hi! How much fabric did you get? And did you adjust your stitch length or tension in some way for the shirring?
Hey! I had a scrap of fabric that was about 55 inches wide and 30 inches high. So you could buy a metre of fabric, just make sure it’s wide enough. 😊 I didn’t actually have to adjust my tension or stitch length, I used a tension of 5, and then my normal stitch length for shirring. Just remember to backstitch and the beginning and end of each shirring line to secure it. Depending on your fabric or machine, you might want to play around with different stitch lengths and tension if it’s not shirring correctly xx
Do you need a shirring foot for your machine to do this?
Hey! No I just used a regular foot and elastic thread in the bobbin :)
How much more fabric should be taken from the original measurement while making such a top?
You need to do bust measurement x 1.5
Hi what kind of fabric, choices pls thank u
Hi! I recommend using a cotton as it’s very easy to sew with. I used a cotton fabric for the top in this video x
It is in inches ? I want to do it becouse we have all in centimetres.
Yea it’s in inches, you can just convert inches to cm in google :)
Thanks, i must add 10 inches (25 cm) in chest ?
what numbers/how wide do you set your zig zag stitch at? thank you!
You only use the zigzag stitch for attaching the side seam once you’ve finished shirring if you don’t have an overlocker. I would just use a general zig zag stitch or 2.5 length and 3.5 wide
@@Tammy.Handmade thanks!
but plz rply my ques that how it own gathering ??
Hi the sewing machine will gather the fabric when you use elastic thread in the bobbin and the correct tension. It might take a few rows of stitching before you see the gathering effect appear.
Hi what setting was your machine when doing the elastic stitching???
Hey, you’ll want to use a longer stitch length so maybe a 3-4 on your machine x
@@Tammy.Handmade ok great what about the tension ??
@@zipporahalexander474 I normally increase mine slightly. I would play around with your machine as the settings will vary on each machine
@@Tammy.Handmade ouuu ok thank you♡🙂
I dont unterstand. I speak german. What mesurenent i have to take? On the Front side and back side of me?
Hey! So all you have to do is measure your whole bust. So take the measuring tape and wrap it around your bust. For example mine was 33 inches. I hope that helps x
Tammy Handmade thank you. Only the Front side? From side to side over the bust?
@@mirjamweibel9678 Nein ich glaub sie hat alles vom rücken also bis nach vorne zur brust eben gemessen.
What settings did you use on the machine? 😂
Just used a longer stitch length when making this so it creates more shirring. :)
I don't think 1.5 × full bust measurement is a good idea. The top is going to turn out too big.
Be sure before you cut any fabric
Shirring reduces the width of fabric by about half - so 1.5x the full bust measurement seems fine to me.
