    Using bushings in AEGs does one of two things. It either destroys the gears or the gears destroy the bushings. It is metal on metal action. It depends on the hardness of the bushings vs the gear axels. FLT bushings are some of the hardest I have tested with my hardness tester files. After around 20k rounds FLT bushing took my SHS gear axels from 2.98mm all the way to 2.90mm on a SSG high speed setup. Bearing test showed no difference in measurements after 20k rounds in all tests. SC gears with some cheaper bushings had the opposite effect. The bushing went from a 3mm opening to a 3.09mm after 20k rounds. The SC gears also had .02mm less material. SC gears used with FLT bushings seemed to split the difference in material lost. About .04mm on both since the harness was close. I used grease on the axels in all tests. This can lead to the gears having horizontal play over time. So bushings cause damage ether to themselves or gear axels when used. This was only 20k rounds, it will just get worse over time. I also used decent parts, there are mush softer parts people use regularly. J-Caged bearings are the move. I have DSGs with SP160 springs at almost 100k rounds without a problem. I rather change $40 bearings every 100k rounds than $140 gears getting destroyed by grinding the axels.

    Could you do a review on the Aztec Apache cylinder head? I’ve been interested in seeing if they are as good as they look

    What do you call the metal holding the motor to the gear box?

    It would be great if we could get a technical explanation of why these are superior bearings
    Material and manufacturing?
    Do they address integrity issue other bearings are subject to?
    Performance?

      They’re made out of stainless steel to very precise tolerances. The ball size and ribbon cage design make these more resilient to radial loads.

    I've been using Japanese j caged bearings from umbrella armory in my dsg with no issues. Imo Japanese j caged is the way to go if you're looking to squeeze every last bit of efficiency out of a build. Those types of bearings have been extensively tested by alot of techs in the teching groups and have yet to see any reports of a failure.

      There are reported j cage failures. People just don't like doing their research, just repeat whatever they heard online.

      @@alextatkin1026 I'm not sure who you're referring to... like I said J caged bearings have been extensively tested, they hold up in the most demanding of builds... failure is attributed to user error... tight shimming, not securing the bearing into place, leaving the bearing dry with no grease etc... I don't see any issue with someone repeating what they've heard from somebody else... like I said they have been extensively covered dating back years ago by employees of umbrella Armory as well as many other reputable and trusted techs... that information is out there and it is good that people may take the advice as well as spread it to others... if you prefer bushings fine no big deal who cares, say you prefer bushings without saying you prefer bushings

    They make a product for mounting bearings. It is called retaining compound, Loctite 680. Don't tell people you use JB weld, it sounds really unprofessional. Use retaining compound, it is literally made for holding bearings.

    Great product! I had the bottom bearing on my spur gear fail and send particles all over the gearbox. Was recommended these as replacements. How do you feel about FLT steel bushing?

    • @OctaneGroup
      @OctaneGroup Před 2 lety +2

      FLT bushings are probably the best bushing you can get, but all bushings are basically the same durability wise.
      The fit and anti-friction coating on the FLT is really good though

      Could you clarify which brand of bearings failed? I have used FLT bushings for years and they’re great. But even bushings overtime will eventually fail / round out.

    Locktite makes a bearing retaining formula that works really well without being permanent.
