- Join me as I spend 10 days solo hiking 230km from Alice Springs across the Larapinta Trail to Mount Sonder in the remote Australian outback.
I was lucky enough to complete this hike in May thankfully giving me beautiful cool weather and wonderful days on the trail. I would highly recommend this track to anyone interested in multi day hiking particularly through open mountain country.
To anyone planning on walking the track I highly recommend you walk in the cooler months, focus more on the time suggestions rather than distance guide of the trail map and see as much as you can of this incredible area, you won’t be disappointed!
Even if you are only planning a section or two I hope this gives you a rough idea what to expect and where you might like to see most.
Enjoy and thanks for being apart of the journey!

The filming, editing and to the point commentary make this such an enjoyable documentary. You are a natural Laura.
I’ve seen many CZcams vlogs on this trail. Congrats. You crushed this on many levels. No food drops. Solo. Legend
Laura, You have a captivating smile. Your energy and passion shows. Look forward to more of your adventures
Congratulations on completing those incredible solo walks! Your journey exudes courage and independence, inspiring others to embrace the beauty of exploration. Your footsteps have left an indelible mark on hearts worldwide. Keep embracing the vastness of the world with passion and purpose, and may each step forward be a testament to your extraordinary spirit. Safe travels, and may your future paths be as awe-inspiring as those you've already conquered!
Just awesome, that was an absolute pleasure to watch.
Wow Laura, first of all YOU are stunning- your smile- your warmth and energy is a major part of what makes this adventure so amazing. Thanks for introducing us to this
beautiful trail!
Another impressive performance Laura 😎🙌
Impressive. I lived there for 16 years. Did day trips through all of this and more. Brings back memories. Water is a big issue off trail. Fly net is a must for sanity summer months. Impressive. But there are dangers. And you need to be fit. I'm no kill joy but you gots to know your limitations.
I admire your spirit of adventure, fitness and expertise with the camera in achieving this walk. I did the first section from Alice Springs in my mid 60s over 10 years ago and I’ve driven to the locations so I know how beautiful it really is and the colours are truly magnificent. Well done. Sadly I’ve left it too late to take up the challenge now. 😁
You are a legend! Beautiful smiles the whole way through!
Stunning visuals and epic adventure. Well done!
This one is on my list! Looks beautiful
You are such an inspiration! I’ve just started hiking at 43 and your videos are so helpful. Thank you! Legend.
Wow, amazing - your effort, the scenery and the video you’ve made to share it with us! Thank you ❤
Your Larapinta Trail walk and the ones in WA are so enjoyable because you are so enthusiastic and always smiling! I have been watching Itchy Boots a blog made by a Dutch girl Noraly who has ridden her trail bike through many remote areas in Africa, South and North America and has been doing it for about 8 years since she was a geologist in WA in the goldfield where she earned enough money to travel like this. She earns an income from CZcams and only in the past week has had to stop after injuring her shoulder in Tanzania and is recuperating back at home in The Netherlands. The Larapinta which we visited and only walked 100 metres is according to some one of the hardest trails due to the remoteness, lack of water and food and the risk of getting lost off the trail. When we were there 2 years ago the emergency services were rescuing by helicopter 4-8 people a week, in April!
What an amazing trail. I’m not a hiker so this was great to see. You did really well. Thank you for sharing. 👍
all these adventures you are doing are awesome - and doing them so young you'll be set for life, so many lessons that must be learned on this planet your doing and doing brilliantly - your 20 years ahead of the rest of your generation - i'm insanely jealous....
Thanks Laura, you are an absolute gem. My jaw is sore with smiling - every time you smiled, I smiled.
I have subscribed and will watch all of your videos. I am so happy you have videoed your experience. It is so inspirational for me. Than you.
Thanks for the video. You smashed this and it’s a great video of the walk. Amazing what you did with such little planning time.
I’ve always wanted to do this hike and you’ve inspired me to plan for this soon.
Another brilliant walk and documentary well done Laura 👏🏼👏🏼
another wonderful adventure, ~ your videos are amazing and just love your commentary and beautiful editing ... love the way the journey is MORE than the destination. That is how I feel when trekking ... absorb everything that surrounds and see the beauty. Well done Laura, can not believe you are just 23 ... so grounded, very conscious of or surroundings and safety. loved the challenging water crossing ... clever you. thanks for sharing, a delight to travel with you. take care ...
Just an amazing experience and the views are breathtaking. we live in such a beautiful country. youre an inspiring young hiker wish i had done this when i was 23. however im only 31 so never too late i guess. good onya mate
Inspirational solo women beautiful country love to hike u make it look so gr8 b hard to knock back if ever get in the area thanks for tips
There is also a marathon along the trail of 231km. It’s called the West Macs Monster. The fastest done was 39hours! Running overnight without sleeping.
But you can actually do shorter marathon. From around 130 or 68 or 25km. It is in May. I ran the 25 from Simpson gap to telegraph station in just over 3 hours.
So lovely! Thank you
This was very informative. Thankyou! Great video!
Thank you for sharing. I could really feel your joy and personal satisfaction of being out there in nature and doing it all on your own. Just beautiful! You have placed this on my to do bucket list....thanks again

Beautiful hike! You made it look so easy 😄
What a stunningly beautiful trail. Congrats on finishing from the UK 🇬🇧
Great video you have inspired me to go here
Wow what an incredible hike! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. I do hope some travel companies sponsor you as you’re a natural on camera.
Great video Laura, can’t believe you carried 10 days worth of food! You seem like a tough cookie 😊
Thanks for a wonderful video. I think you managed to capture the feeling of the vast space, if that makes any sense? You look so happy, well done. See you out there.
Congratulations on your completion of the East-West Larapinta Trail Laura, and Happy Birthday for that special day on the trail, What a beautiful time for you to visit the Centre, the weather conditions were almost perfect unlike the past week here in Alice has been cold, wet and miserable. Although I've never walked the trail I have visited most camp sites over the past 23 years of living here in Alice Springs. Now that you have the East-West leg under your belt, the next question is whether you will return next year to tackle the West-East as i've been told its a "Very different walk". I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video blog and of course as always your infectious smile. ❤
Great video!
10 days self-supported. Pretty hardcore effort. The trail looks awesome.
Amazing, congratulations, hon.
Nice one Laura 👍
Awesome hike 😎
Hello Laura, you make beautiful videos. but first of all congratulations belated on your birthday. I wish you continued strength. I also admire your long and not without danger trail..."camino Ozzy" similar to: Camino to Santiago in Spain. keep going on nice trips. All the best from Hamburg (Germany). Max
Looking forward to doing this trail myself now!
Nice one Laura. Go the Jetboil!
Hiking in Australia is so different compared with Florida or anywhere in America. Very pretty 👍
Great video! I just hiked the Overland track.
Lara 9yrs.
45 year local of Alice. Left because of the crime. @1:00 lol safe location to store your car. That's gold in this town over run by ferals.
Ado not adue 😅😂 but absolutely amazing and stunning video.. well done, you give me the courage to do likewise x
not bad. not bad at all
Congratulations Laura! Very impressive to do this trail in 10 days and carrying all your food for the entire walk, when you could have made use of the food drops! This was a great challenge; you can be proud of yourself 😊!
I love how you always look so happy and smile, this makes watching your adventures that much more enjoyable.
It was interesting because I will be walking the Larapinta Trail next month and my planned hike duration and campsites are almost identical to what you have done, so I now have a really good idea of what to expect.
Out of curiosity, what kind of food did you take with you to be self-sufficient? And do you know the weight of your food, as well as the total weight of your pack at the start of the hike?
I hope you enjoy your next adventures, and a happy belated birthday!
Cheers
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Would you happen to have a pack list? Carrying enough food for 10 days blows my mind, well done.
Looks like such a well tended trail! I’m curious as what dates you hiked, in terms of planning the best season to do it in…keep rocking!
i wish i did this at your age with every fibre of my being. really very imrpessive. well done. The editing and narration is really very good and actually helpful for anyone else wanting to do the hike. Do you think you'll do any overseas hikes? NZ?
Can you please do a video of the gear you use? I’m very interested in starting my own solo hikes but unsure of the right gear
Thank you for this video. I loved hiking with you in spirit. This trail is on my bucket list now.
Done the Camino de Santiago 9 years ago, which I loved.
What is the recommended fitness level for the Larapinta?
Thank you Laura for helpful clear videos, can I ask the name of your tent that I noticed? It's looks a decent size but I expect it's light.
Hey :) thanks for the video! feeling I must come back down under whilst in the Austrian snow. How much water did you usually carry?
YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO WOMEN👏🏼😀👍❤️🏃🏼♀️🚶♀️I AM NOT AN EXPERIENCED LONG DISTANCE WALKER. SO, I WILL START OFF WITH SHORT TREKS.
AND U NEVER GOT LOST
Hey what camera do you use for filming and Birdseye view shots!? Do you need a drone as well?
You are simply adorable
Curious to know what u packed? Food, cooking what would add or not need. Water ok?
Did you have access to any toilets and/or shower facilities during the hike?
Question... how did you get the water you needed everyday for the hike?
How comfortable is that pack?
Well done … did you leave your car at Alice in a commercial car storage business?
So cute you are. I am coming to Australia tomorrow 3/10/24. Can you OR ANYONE provide me with recommendations for wilderness hikes near Sydney. I have RENTED a car and plan on driving as soon as I land and touring Syd the last two days
good choice on the gators. Those camp beds though... Snakes crawl up onto them and into yours sleeping bag. Known of people who wake up dead because they have been bitten by a brown snake in their sleep
Waking up dead lol
@@smfreeze exactly. wake up in heaven
Carry emergency beacon
Risky to hike a trail like that alone. Especially out of phone coverage. You could fall be injured, and not be found for days.
A Brave Lady.
@@samnorth01 She took unnecessary risks with her safety for no real gain. Is that brave or is it foolhardy?
No riskier than driving down a busy highway by yourself.
@@samnorth01 I disagree. Firstly a highway journey is usually necessary. Hiking into the wilderness isn’t. Secondly and more importantly, if you have an accident or are stranded on the highway you can phone for assistance, or else a passerby will probably stop and help or notify the authorities. In the wilderness, on the other hand, if something goes wrong there will be no phone coverage, and there may be no assistance of any kind until it is too late.
The risks she took were minimill.
She is young fit woman that was not climbing Mount Everest.
So cool. Thanks for sharing this. Great work. Looks beautiful, will love to do this one day.
