    I haven’t browse the comments to find if anyone else has said this yet, but the vibrating table is probably a larger version of the vibrating table that we use in dentistry and if that is the case, you have to put some pressure onto the container that you are shaking, so that the material inside vibrate. That is also why your container started to fall off the vibrating table, it’s because you’re supposed to hold it and apply pressure so that the material inside vibrates at the same speed as the table. If you don’t add pressure it just gently shake the container in the material and it doesn’t actually vibrate the bubbles out

      I think biggest issue is they are using incorrect tools with unrealistic expectations. These are not tools to get rid of all bubbles but to prevent any big gaps between concrete so it won't collapse on itself under load. That's also why the small stick was so efficient at places where it actually reached.

    The black spots in the bottom of the mold are most likely magnetite and/or hematite. They are the black sand that you get when you pan for gold. They are the heaviest besides the gold, and is frequently what you have to separate the gold from in the last steps. The vibrating causes the same liquefaction that happens when you are panning. All of the particles become one with the liquid, and the heaviest particles fall to the bottom. If there was gold in the sand, you would see gold spots as well in the mix. This is also why you had the spinning effect on the vibrators. The magnetite sand was magnetically attracted to the iron/steel chunk inside the vibrator that spins. It would be cool to see what nothing but a large volume of magnetite would do with that big sucker.

      @@texasgemtree It's in the sand. There isn't much in commercial sand, but enough makes it through to cause this. The sand is part of the ready-mix concrete. If you want to see it in action, look up Dan Hurd Prospecting. He has videos where he separates it with a 3D printed machine that has the same effect. It's fascinating. It's blue and has a rotating electromagnet that does the same thing as the vibrators. (except less vibrating).

    19:00 INFORMATION: due to the small size, and the amount you vibrated it at, it caused particles of the powder to separate and cluster together, creating dryer spots or "flakes" this is essentially how vibrating anything works, they will separate in to density layers. Due to the curing time im predicting the liquid was able to slightly absorb with the powder enough to cure it.

      Katelyn is completely right.

    • @Jack_Wolfe
      @Jack_Wolfe Před 7 měsíci

      20:20 its highly likely it was TOO MUCH vibration for such a small volume. Its starting to make sense why people use Pressure pots to de-gas resin and concrete
      But i also feel like modifying the concrete consistency might change the bubbles.
      ONE experiment i can recommend, is not mixing it, well and getting the vibrator to mix it.
      The other idea is to have it pouring through a vibrating spout onto the mold.
      Cake batter and dough mixing come to mind, for pouring methods, but icing bags give me thoughts. Like a vibrating long nozzle for the icing bag, so as you squeese it the nozzle de-gasses it or at least does most of the work.
      Watching you guys slap it, makes me think of a machine i saw that did the same thing with a roller cog, like a cylinder with the shape of a snail shell.
      When the thing resting on the roller reaches the peak it drops down, essentially "slapping" the entire thing, now put a platform above that with rods through each corner to let it slide up and down, and something narrow to sit on the roller, and you have a vertical dropping platform, to simulate you lifting and dropping onto a surface. Now fix what ever to it, and start a motor spinning the roller and you have a stronger slam/slap

    Dental Tech here so working with gypsum and table vibrators every day. 😆 The way a vibrating table works is that it helps you let the concrete/gypsum flow into the mold rather than using it after you already filled most of the concrete in. If you put in huge amounts from the start you are bound to trap bubbles. You are supposed to take a spatchula or something similar and pick up some concrete before pressing it against the vibrating mold so the concrete/gypsum flows in and pushes the air out. That way you get almost no bubbles at all. 😉
    Love your vids~ Keep up the great work!!

    So, part of the reason you're seeing bubbles is because of your mold loading technique.
    You need two batches, one surface patch that's very thin, and then a bulk batch. The thin batch is called the slip.
    Use it to coat your mold and let it start to cure before loading the rest. It should be just sticky enough to cling to the wall of the mold by itself. You can spin the mold around and use gravity to help you spread it. Then once the mold has been coated once or twice, then you load in the rest of the concrete.

    In case y'all decide to do this again, it's better to manually put all the concrete fully into the mold before vibrating. Shim it all in, instead of waiting for it to flow in via vibrator. Then make sure to move the vibrator around the mold instead of just keeping it in one place all the time. Both should prevent over vibrating. That said concrete vibrators are meant to prevent big gaps in pours not totally remove bubbles so you'll most likely still get bubbles
    Edit: this is for the industrial vibrator btw lol

    When pouring into molds or doing smooth countertops, you should use a plasticizer additive. With the same amount of water it will turn the concrete slurry into smooth pancake batter. I really think you should look into the stuff used in dental labs. They may be helpful if you can find them used. Extremely well made vibrators for plaster (or concrete) and vacuum chamber/ mixer combos. I use them for metal casting and they are fantastic. (Edit: dental labs are where they actually make the crowns and whatnot. Not all dentists do that in house, but your dentist would probably know who to talk to) also while you’re at it, pick up any spare instruments they are willing to part with, specifically waxing instruments.

      My thoughts exactly! My college jewelry studio had one of the fancy dual purpose vacuum vibrating chamber and flask vacuum. So nice, but wicked expensive. 😭 Hell, even those rubber bowls would probably help. A set of those is a pretty cheap item to add to a studio, and they have a crap ton of uses (one type of use per bowl though, don't use the same bowl for resin and concrete.)

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora Před 8 měsíci +2

      Gotta love all of those wax carvers too, and those can be a pretty penny for a good set. Unfortunately my dentists have always done their casting at a lab and never held on to their tools. They only do the molding in house and that's no longer alginate but a type of non-toxic rubber compound. I'm always concerned about that stuff setting in my mouth like two part epoxy. Not because of it sticking, but because of any potential chemicals that it might release. I have a LOT of crowns...plus I need night guards... 😩

      @ReverendTed Před 8 měsíci +3

      This was my thought. If you Google "Dental Lab Vibrator" you'll get some good results.

    The first tool isn't a 10 to 15 second tool. For it to work you need to let the concrete cure over night while it vibrates. For the second tool, you should mount it to the underside of a work bench or table that you're not using, that one is the 10 to 15 second type, but that's for a structural pour, you still want to let it run a long time to get all the bubbles out, just hook it up to a button or switch and you're good to go, just walk away and let it cure. Plus it will be fun at parties! 🎉
    Edit: also the longer you go the more of those black dots will sink to the bottom and the more air will leave the top. If you don't want the black dots, pre-sift the concrete.

    you want to push the bubbles to the opening but when you only vibrate at the opening the bubbles get pushed away from the point you want them to go out by. so always star w´vibrating at the furthest point from your opening.

    as someone who worked in a concrete lab making cylinders about the same size as the pots. The best method to get rid of air bubbles is the promptly named Rod & Tap method. Layer your concrete into the container (about 1/3 at a time) between each layer make sure to (rod) the concrete 25-30 times using a plastic or metal rod. then after you (rod) the concrete tap the sides of the container several times to settle the concrete (5-10 times). When adding second and third layers make sure not to rod to deep. Only try to go about 1/2 an inch into the previous layer. small bubbles are inevitable however large ugly bubbles can easily be prevented.

      I was looking for that suggestion. Either that or if you need more intense vibration take a hammer drill and turn of the rotation so that it just "hammers" (I don't know the correct word in english). Did this a lot for molds that were a bit bigger than the planter in the video. Just be carefull not to chisel through your mold.

    Love seeing you to back to using older materials but in an advanced way. I feel like after that huge tabletop mishap you guys stayed far away from complicated resin projects. It's ok to fail sometimes, your fans know what you're doing is not easy and that this channel occupies a huge part of your life. The "not that type of channel" jokes cracked me up. You two have an awesome energy and I think this is what the audience is here for. When you're ready, please go back to the resin gods you once were!

    • @frankiemillcarek6976
      @frankiemillcarek6976 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I don't know if it is necessarily them shying away from resin because of the huge tabletop "mishap" causing fear of failure. Their projects have been scaled back for sure. I assumed it was because of cost and all-too-common creator burnout. They were definitely overworking themselves trying to establish their channel. Now they have room to breathe and are taking it, yay!

    It's great to see that each one had a use case and was adjusted to, erm, "scale". The adult one broke Nintendo world records and is typically made of silicone so that solves a lot of clean up! Happy vibrating your...concrete.
