I have arthritis in my hands and they dislocate really readily too (EDS) and that tin opener looks amazing, off to buy one! I’m sure my carers will enjoy using it too. Thank you!
Have you looked at the one he mentioned? The automatic one? It's amazing! I bought it, it's the Culinare one touch can opener (I got it from amazon). You just have to press a button and it works.
My daughter has EDS; we are in USA and struggle to find support-most people have no idea what even is. Have you any on-line resources/support ?
@@ellengoodman1297 the mayo clinic is nice here in the US but there isn't a ton. I mainly have a great chiropractor and follow the elhers danlos society for advice on mobility aids. I have type 3 or Heds
You should keep the kraken masher so when you make mashed potatoes you can start by saying "Let's get kraken"
Or 11:35 as Harry Hill would say “FIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTTTTTT’
@@CricketEngland It's just a line from clash of the titans !
The usefulness of some of these gadgets comes from their use, but the final determination comes from how easy it is to clean them up after using them, especially with things like the two different potato mashers.
I can say that the Joseph Joseph Helix potato ricer is a breeze to clean. I do agree with what you said though. If it takes an hour to clean I don't care how "easy" it makes something.
Quite a few genuinely impressive ones this time around. Hats off to JoJo with the masher and the multitool.
Also, that cherry-pitter is frighteningly effective. You could probably have some fun if you set up some paper targets and kept the pugs out of the room, 'cause if one of those high-speed pits hit Boston or Amy, you'd lose a lot more than 1000 points.
I'd rather swallow a cherry pit than launch it across the room like that :')
Yeah, that Kraken really needs to be in episode 69..
Big difference that I've noticed between potatoes that are washed versus unwashed. The unwashed seem to hold lot more firmer so fresher for longer.
Dirty potatoes last longer, washed potatoes takes some of the natural protection from the skins.
This is why I don't bathe my kids before I send them to school. The extra dirt is added protection for them. The school principal calls me a neglecting parent though.
@IntercityLisko are you in the UK by any chance? It’s the same with eggs here as well
Yep, but here in Sweden they are increasingly difficult to get nowadays because people are getting scared by anything "dirty" 😠 I wish school would teach the kids so much more useful stuff! (Since the parents somehow lost these skills through the years)
@IntercityLisko All the supermarket eggs are pristine clean but I now get my eggs from an organic farmer. They can be pretty dirty but the flavour is amazing. If they are dirty, do you wash them just before using? I do because I was never sure. I'd love to know. Thanks 😊
Hi Barry, something to consider trying are Castelvetrano olives. They are bright green & the brine doesn't make them taste vinegary & imo the ones with the pits are the best. They are actually considered sweet because of the way they effect your taste buds as you chew them but they are buttery & nutty, just a beautiful olive, considered the best of the best in Italy & around the world but pretty easy to find & affordable.
I was cracking up laughing watch Barry make faces while eating olives.
I have literally never laughed harder at one of your videos than when that pitter shot out that first seed and the olive faces I am not a fan of the green ones myself lol
Green are the best ones! I used to think opposite and now I love them, can eat them like sweets. Even now, typing this is making me crave them.
That red microwave cooker could be cool for making an “egg loaf.” Crack your eggs, poke the yolks, season, then nuke. When they’re done & cooled, just slice or dice up for your egg salad (or potato salad, etc.). No peeling of boiled eggs!
I cant believe I laughed at "give it a little tug for good measure", dangit!
That cherry pitter is a dangerous weapon in the wrong (ashens) hands.
Felt like I had to blink and back up with that flying olive pit. Thanks for the chuckle.
Grew up being told you should always buy the roots and tubers with mud on them. The water when rinsing makes it moist and removes natural protection coatings, promoting microbial growth.
When I was a kid we visited the grandparents farm every summer and would dig up lots and lots of potatoes and bring them back home. Long story short, one year, I had been aloud to take a small pail of potatoes wash them (clean them up) and store them the same way we did the unwashed one. They needed to be used by the time my summer was over where the unwashed ones lasted over the winter. Not really a good experiment but it gave me a hint of understanding that not washing them helps them stay longer fresh.
The mud on veg from the garden keeps them fresher.
I agree with Mrs B’s grandma! My family only ever buy the big 20KG bags of potatoes with mud on! And I do the same! But they’re far better being grown at home if you have space!
"This is so good, it looks like maggets"
Well thats a first. 😄
I love the Zyliss can opener as if has a magnet to help remove the sharp lid after they fall into your can of tomato sauce.
Carrot and orange juice/smoothies are one of my faves! Barry you’ve been missing out 😩
Re dirty potatoes. Here in Australia, if a potato has “mud” or dirt on, you know it’s fresh. Washed potatoes have often been in cold storage for months and months
Love that Druken Sailor is the opening song❤❤❤
ok so I have carpal tunnel syndrome and my appointment isn't until next week, the other day I was making dinner and tried opening a can of yams and I couldn't get it open with my regular can opener, i saw the 3 in one you mentioned and bought it on amazon and got it the same day, INSTANTLY amazed at how simple it made opening cans this afternoon!
Green olives stuffed with anchovies sounds like a childhood dare. I had no idea people eat those for *enjoyment*
The only “Kraken” I like is the one you add apple juice to for a fun night…
Been using an apple corer like that since the 80s! Love it
Barry, corn is a grass! Sometimes corn has a few smelling and tasting notes that are definitely reminiscent of cut yard grass.
My grandparents had this kind of foldable glasses, when I was a kid I was awed by them. I am fifty, it was long time ago, took me back.
When out at dinner with Mrs B ... I often eat them out of boredom.. LOL
Mrs B has left the chat
I've heard of the "dirt on potatoes" argument. Apparently, it keeps the potatoes fresh for longer. Never wash your farm market potatoes until you're ready to use them.
Barry has been doing this series so long that he's starting to test gadgets that he's already done in the past.
The helix masher would be 'grate' for hash browns.
My mom taught me that potatoes that grow in mud have a different taste (and are a different type) of potatoes that grow in sand. Mud potatoes tend to be sweeter and are better for cooking, while the ones that have an almost see-through skin are better for frying because they get crispy.
Barry earting olives sounds like a pirate, grandad and an Australian all at once😂😂
I have a small cup like the expandable one from the 1950’s. It was in my grandmother’s train case (haven’t seen one of those in ages) and was for using in the bathroom in trains while brushing teeth. On,y held about 4 ounces.
My grandparents had them for when they went hiking, probably in the 30s or the 40s. As a child they fascinated me. I am sure there are still somewhere around.
@@deelirious Doesn't it feel odd to say that. In another 10 years we'll be at the '30s again.
@@skrenos I didn't think about that. So we are in the '20s now… Strange feeling, it feels odd for me too.
YESSS. Popcorn is a great idea! I FINALLY found somewhere that had garlic salt in stock!
We live in a place where lots of potatoes are grown. If a potato has more dirt on it or smells like dirt it’s fresher!
All that cherry pitter needs is some metal targets.
*** Pah-TING! ***
Yay! I should be studying for my exam tonight, but this is SO much better!
I need this tin opener. I have fibromyalgia, Raynaud's and carpal tunnel and I struggle so bad with tins. Thank you Mr Barrie.
I recommend the one he mentioned, the automatic one. I got the Culinare one touch can opener from amazon and it's very good. All you gotta do is push the button.
The editing on this one is top notch. Loving the vids as always ❤️
The corn tool was interesting.
I'm on my second corn coffee tool. Our store sells a chucked cobs of corn in 4 packs, which is the perfect amount for my weekly meals.
I try to get creative with incorporating into different dishes throughout the week.
I laughed when you said the mash looks like maggots. That is also when I decided to give it a like. Lol
I laughed WAY too hard at the olive pit flying across the room. 🤣🤣🤣
I had one of those pop-up cups back in Boy Scouts in the 90's. Mildly convenient.
Surely the whole idea of the apple corer is that you don't need to push the core out with your hand, you just push it into the handle and the handle pushes it out so you don't hurt your finger?
Great gadgets but cherry pitter was absolutely awesome!!
The collapsible cup is an old idea, been around in here in the States for over a century. Great for hiking, camping, or hunting trips, and widely used by Scouts of all ages.
The suitcase thing also has a bigger version of it that you can cook a whole chicken in, I have that and it is really good.
Omg Barry the kraken my dirty mind had me busting out laughing 😆 🤣 😂
I thought that recipe for the carrots sounded really yummy. I often add citrus and some honey to my carrots when I am done cooking them .
Me: Aah yes, cardamom pods, wonderfully fragrant! Crack them first if you like but only need 4-5 tops
Barry: Just pours a shitload of pods in there.
I have that same exact cherry pitter! Made a ton of cherry stuff over the summer!
I don’t know how but I’ve cut myself trying to get a pull tab lid off. Really bad. And I have really bad fear of doing that again since my finger bled a lot and it happened too fast for me to know what I did wrong.
That gadget, sounds amazing and based on your video probably the only one I’ve ever felt is a good option. Thanks again Barry for your open minded testing videos.
The opening with drunken sailor and things going wrong makes for some very fun ideas of how this videos going to go 😅
The thing with potatoes and dort: if you wash them, they start to grow out faster. Means for longer storing time a little mud or dirt proves that they have not been washed.
The mug was “novelty” but I can see a real use for it with camping and saving space.
I just love Barry’s and his family. Entertaining and informative. Keep up the great work. Love love you videos. 💗🚗🍃
I love the song you chose to be in the background of this video! It brings back memories of sitting on the front porch with my Dad during a thunderstorm.
The 3 in 1 Can opener is a great pull tab gadget for those with limited strength!
That masher is a lot like the garlic crusher! Just a bigger version
Fun fact ask for a cob in my neck of the woods (East Midlands) and you’ll get a bread roll !.
I use the microwave steamer thing a lot! One of my favourite workday lunch is salmon cooked in the microwave. Quick and easy!
Love watching you and your family! :D
@18:44 YES! i do that too. Over here where i live i buy them straight from the farmer. They always come with free dried up mud. It keeps them fresh for longer (i'm not even that old). And you have people that peel them with that still on. but i prefer to give them a short bath before i wash and peel them.
Mr. Barry and Family, you sir INSPIRED me too go after a job I've always wanted but was to afraid to do because I didn't go to culinary school. After 2 months of being in the restaurant.. Not only get I get promoted to Head Chef. But I'm not in charge of training. Thank you thank you thank you for the inspiration and in my own head. You believed I could do it!!! I had a temporary tattoo on order to put on my wrist that simply reads...WWBD!?
These are pretty cool. I love kitchen gadgets.
I love both anchovies and olives but I've never seen anchovy-stuffed olives... sounds amazing tbh
That cherry pitter looks lethal 😧
The potatoe mud thing is yes a thing. I smell the potatoe bag it should smell of dirt so you know there are no bad ones. She isn't the only one. They come out of the ground when "new" almost clean, they then wash them and add dirt for people like her lol
This was so funny 😆Thanks Barry 🤗
Carrot and orange work together really well,it's one of my favourite soups.
Helix versus Kraken sound like a battlebot fight
Some are crazy and some are cool . Thanks for sharing. Your videos are fun to watch
Yayyy out of hospital after 6 weeks and back watching you from home
Wait… who the world would think that carrots with orange and cardamom sounds horrible? It sounds amazing to me.
They are bloody delicious! I make them for Thanksgiving as roasted spice carrots
The Kraken is crackin mate.
A really cool hack you should try if you haven’t already is, you can use a cake mixer to mix and mash potatoes as well!
What will we do with a drunken sailor?
What will we do with a drunken sailor?
What will we do with a drunken sailor?
Early in the morning!
The potato ricer is a large version of a citrus juicer from #48 which was just a larger version of a a garlic press from #40. All of which are made by Joseph and Joseph.
Barry Lewis, watching you eat olives is a highlight of my day. I need a good laugh after the last few weeks I have suffered at the behest of my local hospital’s so called kitchen. Everything from petrified chicken ( classified as a deadly weapon) to turkey so tough and flavorless I was questioning when it was actually cooked! Down to a beef contaminated salad which caused a allergic reaction. One can only live on 2 cold quarter sized biscuits and gravy for so long. Just be glad you didn’t have to attempt to eat any of what I tried to eat.
Love the choice of Drunken Sailor in the bg music
I love that microwave coffin 😁
The ultimate test for a tin opener is a Fray Bentos pie.
Lidl used to do a carrot and orange juice carton. I really liked it. It was super sweet and sort of tropical tasting. I've also made carrot orange and tomato soup with caraway seeds before and that was nice.
Those olives would be a good CV19 test!!
I am constantly playing with my pop socket there is no way I could use that cup without making a mess!😆
I love that the only thing that stops you is that Mrs B will not approve. You seem to have a wonderful relationship :)
The Krakken one should have been on the 69th episode too. LOL
The olive pitter is a weapon. Perhaps for guests we don’t like lol
I’ve got that potato river in my Amazon basket, I must just buy it!
Potatoes with mud on last longer. The cleaned ones are already going off by the time you buy them from light exposure. It's why the farm shop potatoes in the massive sacks last so long and the supermarket ones barely see a week out
I know someone who only buys potatoes with mud on. Something to do with making sure that they are only cleaned with water.
I'm starting to think Barry shouldn't be allowed in the kitchen unsupervised.
2:38 sounding like a Noel Fielding character lol.
It's funny you say the corn gadget reminds you of mowing grass even though they have nothing to do with each other.
In fact, they do. In both cases, you're using a bladed tool to cut grass. Corn on its cob is the seed of a plant from the grass family.

The potato ricer is the same as the garlic crusher you reviewed when you were in your old house. Im sure it was green. I have the ricer and find it so much easier than the traditional ricer
@@sallyaitken4254 was the same brand aswell
The reason Mrs B's grandma checks for mud on potatoes is to prove they are farm fresh and not mass produced probably 🤷🏻♀️ I know I do
With the olives I wonder if you cut one side of the olive just a bit it would make it easier to work with
