    This movie has the most genuine representation of Christian evangelical church culture in North America I have seen.

    Obviously, the singing here is gorgeous and authentic and deeply felt. But it's also a remarkable bit of storytelling: We learn so much about each and every character's different relationship with George through the reaction shots.

    Can't watch our listen to this without crying like a baby. God is so good. 💗 Peace to everyone.

    Wow. It's a fine moment in the film. I get tearful to watch it, and I'm not a guy who cries at all. The wife is perplexed because it's a side of her husband that she hasn't seen- that's how I take it anyway.

    Fun fact: Alessandro Nivola skimmed past the part of the script where his character sings a hymn, and he didn't notice it until they were preparing to shoot the scene. He only had a couple of days to learn and rehearse it, and his singing is recorded live on the set (the film's budget didn't allow for it to be recorded in a sound studio later).

      The movie was not that great, but this rendition of the hymn was a gem.

    @redrosestoo Scott Wilson plays the father in this movie. He is seated at the table, watching his son sing. It's a very good film, and my favorite, and well worth checking out.

    redrosestoo, you're definitely right!
    I probably made a mistake reading the credits. Scott Wilson is much older, which doesn't go to say he can't sing, but he doesn't probably do so in this movie.
    I uploaded this clip because it shows very clearly how a american emphasises some words in the song. That doesn't come natural when you're from Yurp.

  • @nauort23
    @nauort23 Před 10 lety

    Not all stresses on words in hymns are "natural" or representative of native speech--not in America OR Yurp. Even "a american" can see and hear that.

    Well...what's that? hand in your pocket while singing....
    Anyway , very beautiful song, especially with several voices.
