There is abysmal ignorance about Israel among younger people, even about its most recent history. They seem to know nothing about the Oslo Peace Accords, the Palestinian Authority, Arafat’s rejection of the two-state solution offer at Camp David in 2000, the Second Intifada and all the carnage of Israeli civilians resulting from that, the end of the Gaza occupation in 2005, the election of Hamas in 2006, the start of the Israel-Hamas war in 2007…when J tell them about all this, it’s always like they’re hearing it for the first time. They literally seem to think that Oct. 7 was the first act of aggression against Israel ever.
