- Is your sunroof leaking? Mine does all the time and found this to be the easiest way for me to clear the drain lines. My truck is a 2006 Chevy 1500 crew cab. I’m sure there is other years and even other cars that use this same type of water tray design that’s horrible if you have lots of trees that love to drop leaves as my yard does. Hope this video helps pls subscribe and like for more how to videos. #sunroofdrain #chevysunroofleak #chevysunroof

Love the weedeater string tip, exactly what i was looking for. Unfortunately, after nearly 1 hour, i cannot get that string more than a foot in
Definitely sounds like it’s clogged up I would use some warm water and pour down in it just a little till u can see the water coming out the bottom of the car and just slowly push the string it will push through most leaves and such just take your time not to bust the tube
Great informative video. Many thanks
Thank you very much for this video. I’ve heard about this but needed to see it done and I really appreciate it.. I had the headliner replaced and now it’s happened again now that I know how to take care of it and maintain it. Hopefully this issue won’t be a problem moving forward. Thank you for being slow and calm explaining everything you were doing.
That’s awesome hope it will help out. Thanks for watching
I just did this, and brother it works!!!!!😊
That’s awesome glad it worked took me forever to figure out a way to do it but it stopped the leak
Great explanation. Just saved me $1000 repair it seems.
Awesome saved me too big time I now always clean it regularly
Heck yea. Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to try it on my 05 chevy.
Man we have oak leaves bad here in Florida clogs it up twice a year and the weed eater string clears it without popping a hole in the rubber drain line hope it will help for yours
Great Job MAN.. Thank you.
excellent video
Thanks for watching
i have to push it up through the bottom opening becsuse the water must have shorted out a relay and my sunroof won't open. where does the water actually exit i have a 2020 equinox. my rear wheel well was filing up with water and back floor boards.
I know this a dumb question how rare is to see a Silverado with OEM sunroof? I hardly see any I think it's pretty cool
I have an 03' Z71 Tahoe that has had water in the driver's floor board every time it rains hard. the windshield was replaced last summer and the shop that did it couldn't see any place it would have come in from the windshield not being sealed right. Tomorrow, now that the rain has stopped, I am going to use this technique to see if my drains are clogged. Thanks for the video. I'll come back and let you know what I ended up with. Maybe I 'll have a dry carpet again. It has gotten so bad it has that not quite rotten smell to it so the carpet cleaner will be coming out.
Definitely had the same problem too headliner and floor board was getting wet now I do this twice a year with all the trees around me. Hope it helps
@@crdriscoll1 Tried the weed-eater line deal. Used .095 brand new from Lowe's. I could only get it to go down the tube about 10/12 inches and then it felt like it hit something, this was on both driver and passenger drains. Before I started with the line in the drain, I poured hot soapy (Dawn) into the drain channel (my deflector was trashed, hinges and keeper straps brittle and had fallen apart/I never use the sunroof) and a very little came out the bottom behind the wheel well. No stream more of a steady dripping. Any thoughts?
@@ernestpaul2484you figure it out?
What about the back holes?
Size of string ?
Water only gets on the front floor boards, nothing else
How do leaves get in there? U drive with sunroof open?
Rain and leaves falling somehow get trapped in there and if not cleaned out regularly and he leaves will rot then they get into the weep holes
I with they was some hollow string that you could attached air blower too. Someone invent I’ll buy
I’m in I would buy too.
How about a needle blow gun and perhaps a thin hollow tube that you might find at a medical supply place ?
Looks like you need a new seal as well
Definitely needed a new one
Sorry, but this is not the solution. The first thing is to discover why the water passes to the interior channel of the roof window, if it is closed. And how to repair this. Furthermore, those small water drainage holes, during a heavy rain, are not enough to drain the water that passes into the gutter with the roof windows closed. My question is, how to fix the glass seal so that water does not pass through when the roof window is closed. Nobody says. Why would it be?
The answer I got from the dealership when I had this problem a couple years ago is that all sunroofs leak. It seems stupid to me too, but there is just apparently no way to create a sunroof that will seal perfectly, which is why these drains exist in every car with a sunroof. It seems EXTRA stupid that they can't even create a drain that doesn't have these clogging issue (why is the tubing so TINY?), or that at least doesn't drain INTO the car when it does clog.
@@vespertineflora I see. Yes, I have understood. Tomorrow, July 4, I am going to seal the roof glass. I'm not going to drive my car during carnivals, much less so. No to the glass on the roof of my car!.
@@Nelsondoremi I'm also contemplating just sealing the sunroof. In the ten years I've had the car, I've only opened the sunroof maybe a dozen times. It was a standard feature of the trim that had other features I wanted, so it wasn't why I purchased the car, and having puddles of water leak into the floor of my car every so often has been the biggest hassle.
It's just doing the math to invest in new glass. Besides that window doesn't mean anything to me. You buy a new glass that has the rubber gasket melted and stops the water leaking inside. I sealed the glass and no more water entry. Because carcasses are supposed to be for water droplets. And when the glass gasket is worn, you have to change the glass because it comes with the rubber gasket.
My sun röof does not leak
