Although these terms have historically often been conflated they are not the same thing. Your gender identity is your understanding of yourself that is not defined by your physical body. As an example, if your consciousness was transferred to a robot body, biologically you would neither male nor female, but you would still know and define yourself as a man or woman. That's gender identity. Trans people are people whose gender identity doesn't align with their birth sex. You could say that who they are on the outside doesn't match who they are on the inside. The lady in this video is a woman not because of any biological traits, but because that's who she is on the inside. When we say she is a woman we are referring to her gender, not her sex. I understand that it can be tough to get to grips with this if you're used to man and woman etc. exclusively being used to refer to biology. But this is the modern scientific understanding of sex and gender.
