6:54 I always liked this scene. The "Newer" Cylon goes down in a few hits while the "Classic" Cylon just tanks them.
true the classic Cylons were originally made to have free will so it made sense they were tougher as Cylons value life ( and maybe resurrection ships aren't everywhere. the newer Cylons were only made to attack in numbers so can't take many hits and don't have free will so no life value. plus the more they die the more they learn
The Clyons that accompanied Cavill Prime seemed to be better armored
@@christinafacebook5665 original cylons also didn't have resurrection. that came with the final five coming to the 12 colonies at the end of the first cylon war.
Honestly, I always felt that the Rebel Cylons should've had more than a few of the original Centurions with them since they'd possess some form of free will as well.
@@Mobius_118 The older Model 0005 Centurions were quite rare and only found in the Colony. Given their hatred of humanity they undoubtedly supported Cavil in his coup against the Final Five. That or Cavil removed their free will with Inhibitors like the modern Centurions.

I love how the Galactica looked more and more battered and beaten up as the series progressed. Great continuity.
It certainly let them get use out of advancing tech as the show went on. The mini series couldn't have pulled off the level of detail they had on the finale, that's for sure.

When you realize the series begins with a Cylon attack on 12 human colonies, and ends with a human attack on a Cylon colony. And each colony represents a deity.
Local rust bucket literally too angry to die and decides to kill God
lol, never put that together, but your spot on.
It's called retaliation. And it's justified.
The Battle of the Colony is a perfect bookend in regards to the show's theme of events being cyclical in nature.
- Cylons used Colonial technology to disable and undermine Colonial defences, the Colonials used the Cylon hybrids to disable and undermine Cylon defences.
- Cylons used small numbers of agents to infiltrate the Colonies to prepare for the attack, the Colonials used small teams to do the same.
- Cylons used nuclear weapons to destroy the Colonial planets and population centres, Racetrack unwittingly used Colonial nuclear weapons to completely devastate the Colony.
Not a colony...
The colony.
It's not like the Cylons had more than one...
When the colony guns first go silent, the tips briefly glow red, as they should do given they've been firing continuously. Wonderful realism, and great that someone thought of it when they made the episode.
The Expanse is super good at space-realism, if you haven't already give it a shot!
Really shows just how tough Battlestars were. If it wasn't for the virus, they would've mopped the floor with the Cylon fleet.
They had more than these ships, we just never saw them in the show, granted these ships were the most numerous. These ships were purpose built to carry out the attacks on the colonies. The other ships were held back under the assumption that the attack would've destroyed humanity.
@@alexandericeshade6302 they actually don’t have any other newer official design of ships, their whole plan was to make missile launching carriers that, whilst the base ships nuked the fleet and colonies, the raiders were mopping up the fighters and smaller vessels
Had Galactica not been under Adama’s command, the networks would’ve been linked onboard, they’d have been completely vulnerable to the virus and they would’ve been destroyed as well
So really their plan was a perfect solution to a modern military, but failed to take into account anyone old school enough to be running completely manual
Another fluke that destroyed their plans was the crew aboard Galactica rebuilding actual MK2 Vipers for the museum, instead of non functional models, had Galactica not had those antiques restored purely out of love for Adama, Galactica would’ve been destroyed
Their Plan ultimately came apart by pure chance (although given the context of there being an actual God in this universe, it’s more likely it was a literal act of God)
@@alexandericeshade6302 makes you wonder what else they planned to need them for

@@truthoftheuniverse4179 - WHAT the frack?
Father Cavil was all the hate they needed.
I bet there were quite a few Cylons who protected the families they served during the initial Cylon Uprising. But after the official declaration of war between Cylon Command and the Twelve Colonies these Cylons had to flee Cyrannus in order to escape the retribution of Colonial Fleet and the differing ideologies of their anti-human brethren. They'd undoubtedly find a world to settle elsewhere and may have even welcomed the freed Modern Centurions into their society 56 years later.

5:50 I love this moment. The battle is in almost melee range - it's so dense that a random fighter gets destroyed by a flak shell launched directly, rather than a flak screen
The batteries are not a flak screen, they are cannon fire aimed at the colony. The Raider literally flew into a cannon shell
@@SantomPh could be either. Flak is a similar shell, except it explodes when a set timer ends, spraying shrapnel in an area

@ NBCUniversal is doing it for their streaming service.
@@Danny_Trent (SPOILERS) I've gotta disagree, BSG is almost like a family/office drama happening in space with genocidal and bloodthirsty robots hot on their tail, certainly an amazing story and all. But the expanse just just benefits from the scope of the whole solar system coming into play, its politics, its chains of supply and demand and how they shape civilisation in the face of the unknown. And its story is certainly not lacking. The way I see it BSG has more fleshed out characters while the Expanse has a more fleshed out universe. To me they lack a little of what the other has. BSG certainly had politics but its simply people fighting on a table and only Roslin is ever the good guy. I mean Tom zarek was badly used in my opinion. There was no aftermath to the loss of cloud 9. It was just US senate style politics. Expanse on the whole feels a lot more diverse and most certainly more real.
The CGI and combat scenes for this show are insane for it's time period, Yea alot looks dated now, but also a lot still looks solid
'A lot looks dated now' I have to disagree on that one chief, the lighting is such that any dated textures are hidden by flashes of light and darkness, making any odd textures difficult to find even when in good lighting
@@weirdassenbychild7452 Nah, I mean, it looks great still, I'm not one to complain about "realistic looking HD textures" as long as it looks good, is fun and has loads of details, but the animations on mobile parts look really bad (fast firing guns especially) And it does look dated, especially the colony close up shots.
Just compare it to the last battle scenes from Expanse. It definitely looks dated.

WHY THE FUCK HUMAN DID NOT CREATED ENERGY SHIELDS
OR LAZERS GUNS
OR GIANT ROBOTS
@@truthoftheuniverse4179 if you want a realistic reason. 1. energy shields use a LOT of energy and at most magnetic shielding, plus they don't have fusion power. 2. in the original they had laser or at least laser-like weapons, but a kinetic weapon will aways do better damage compared to a laser that uses the same power. 3. giant robots are awesome but impractical with the squad cube law and the maintenance, a fighter which would have an engine, and guns vs a robot that has a lot more moving parts and is more likely to break down from fighting, plus you can't armor up a mech as you can a tank or a fighter. Galactica must have been a sturdy and well built ship to have sustained so much fire from enemy vessels countless times
And to still have her FTL drive online after that considering she lost it due to the baseship bombardment over New Caprica and it took Pegasus' sacrifice for her to get it back online.
When the mercury class Battlestar being constructed, a part of its FTL drive system was exposed which left it vulnerable to being disabled. When deployed in combat.
Whereas the Jupiter class had it built within the inside of the ship which had multiple layers of heavy armour to absorb the hits of incoming weapons. Which I will include hits involving nukes
Well they explained during that episode that Galactica jumped so close to Cylon home colony, that they were unable to use heavy weaponry without damaging the colony it self. Cylons were practically using anti-fighter weaponry against Galactica.
She actually wasn't, it was mentioned in the show that the designers cut corners to get the ship into service. These flaws were likely a contribution to why her back broke at the end of the show.
