- #100DaysOfPractice - Day 32 - Mind the Gap!
So...this also goes out by request, as a followup to the Day 30 and 31 posts.
What does "mind the gap" mean in this context??
Well, a lot of us have a gap between our fastest single tongue and our slowest comfortable, clean double- and triple-tongue.
This isn't something we're likely to notice every time we play, but whenever some passage shows up that's a bit too fast to single tongue, but a bit too clumsy to multple-tongue...well, then we're reminded: It can be a serious problem!
Every pro player I know is aware of this issue and works to great some degree of overlap in their technique; for example if they're comfortable single-tonguing 16ths at quarter = 130, then they want to be comfortable double-tonguing 16ths at 120, etc.
So...here are some suggestions for bridging that gap!
