- Mike Holmes renovated his deck last summer and it was a busy but rewarding project with all hands on deck. He brought it lots of professionals from different industries to build the best deck as possible. Here's the entire series in full. Mike wants to thank everyone that has helped him for his Ultimate Deck. Below are some of the great things that are new to the deck.
👉using galvanized steel planks over the joists.
👉moisture protection on the tops of deck joists and beams, to prolong the life of the entire structure
👉stone floor (replaced a composite deck)
👉porcelain tile countertop

Love the porcelain counter tops. Wish I would have known about this option when I remodeled my kitchen last year.
I’m a huge Mike Holmes fan. I have learned a lot about the trades I do now from him. I was hoping for an actual construction video and not a “look at what we did” video. Nice deck anyway.

Been watching you for years.
I very much enjoy Watching the videos are you and the crew fix up problems at homes. Though the deck looks great, Building all of this in Canada with your cold weather 9-10 months a year, It will sit idle most of the year. I am not a fan of overkill and egos. As another person asked, showing how all parts were constructed and having interviews with the product specialists would have been better.

I've have watch you for years remodel, do over, rip out and fix up mistakes shoddy work others have left behind for people. Some have trusted friends or family who have left them in such a mess. Clients who have had work inspected by well known companies and still left jobs have done, that they were not able to finish or have the know how to do the job in he first place.
I wish you would have showed how the stone goes down =(

WOw. Didn't know about galvanized / pressure treated incompatibility. No galvanized nails for PT fencing....

I used 15lb felt 40 years ago on my deck and steps. Just figured everyone did it to keep rain off.
What happened with the SigmaDek (aluminum/porcelain) product you were pushing years before?
