Regarding 0:28, Porro Prism Binoculars have been around since 1854 when they were patented by their Italian inventor Ignazio Porro. Regarding 1:57. Roof Prisms require dielectric coatings to correct Phase Shift from Internal Reflections due to their Brewster's Polarization Angle. On the other hand, Porro Prisms do not need dielectric coatings to correct phase shift polarization.

İs it really necessary for roof prism binoculars to have phase correcting coatings? İ have a 270 dollars 10x56 roof prism binoculars and they are fully multi coated but not phase coated from what i know.

Roof prism binoculars with phase correcting coatings are superior as explained @ czcams.com/video/IQqhz4jyVfc/video.html

How about the image quality? Is there any difference?

But for night time star and moon viewing… is there a difference? I’ve heard many astro Porro fans but aren’t they heavier than roof? Are the optics better for night time viewing or are they just better for the price point? Thanks

Is BAK4 (and BAK 7) roof prism? Some disingenuous descriptions around when researching.

BAK4 is type of glass irrelevant to geometry of prisms. Both Porro prisms and Roof prisms can be made of BAK4 or BAK7, etc.
