    Thank you for making these videos, but I'm in a bit of a dilemma;
    I'm using the GH4 and I'm looking for solutions to make it easier to pull focus and see framing when outside in bright sunlight. The LCD on the GH4 gives me awkward and annoying reflections, and since I just bought the V-log L upgrade the peaking on my camera has been super strong, and basically coloring in the entire screen.
    I've been thinking of buying a monitor, but what's been keeping me from it is the latency of most cheap monitors. Is saving up $600 for the SmallHD Focus worth it or should I go for something much more baseline like a LCD sun protector? Or are there options in between that won't give me a big delay when filming?
    Thanks again for making these videos!

I have a Canon DSLR and my current monitor doesn't allow me to see the touch screens on the monitor. That sucks because when I plug in the monitor my DSLR screen goes black, which means I can't use them on the camera either and have to do all setups without the ability to use the touch screen. Thanks in advance!

    • @evertveldhuis9888
      @evertveldhuis9888 Před 7 lety +1

      Your Canon camera blacks out because it notices the active HDMI connection to the monitor.
      On a 7 D MkII for example you can mirror the HDMI output so both the camera and the monitor are active (they show the same information). Sadly the 7 D Mk II has no touchscreen. But on a 650 D / T4i for example you can use the Q button to activate the menu's you would normally use while touching the screen: use the Q button and the Arrow keys on your camera while looking at the monitor to see what you are doing. On a 650 D / T4i you cannot mirror the HDMI output. Hope this helps.

    Since you have done most of the work reviewing dozens of Monitors can you pick the best one to use with the Nikon D850?

      Hello Tony, For Nikon D850, you can check here, a 7 inch 2200nits 4k hdmi video monitor:amzn.to/2OOe11j

    How do you use the external monitor while using the camera display at the same time? When I plug in my monitor my camera screen shuts off.

    Hi Caleb! Very nice video! What about monitor/recorders like the BM video assist 4K? I have been looking into that one, but there is surprisingly little info on it.

      I have one! What are you looking to know? BM has a lot of info on their website, but I can talk about some real-world issues if you'd like! I'm not sure if Caleb has one since I believe he has/had a Atmos Shogun.

      I've been meaning to check them out myself but haven't so far. From what I've heard, they're getting better with firmware updates. Definitely a consideration as they are pretty affordable!

      Ah yes! Well I don't so much care about the technical info. I'd like to hear about some real world stuff. Because compared to the Atomos stuff it seems really affordable. And with what camera do you use it? I have an A7s and thought I could finally use the 4K output with a recorder like this.

      Totally agreed with this - the reduced price alone makes it a nice option, but them adding exposure control tools has been very useful, and the touchscreen is nice! Biggest thing if you want to use it as a recorder is to ensure you have a large and fast card. I drop frames recording normal 4k ProRes on a 90MB/s SanDisk Extreme, but ProRes LT works great. I need to try the DNX flavors. It's also HEAVY, but the screen image is great. Honestly wish they offered the same features in the 5 inch model, but it only handles 1080p!

      Thank you for responding Caleb! Yes the affordability is what interests me. Especially compared to the Atomos stuff. Really tempting for an A7s owner like me.

    It's complex for me I have a Nikon D750 and want to buy a SmallHD Focus but neither SmallHD or Nikon can give me any information on how they would work together - so I'm just not purchasing until I see someone using them together.
