    Feels like they nerfed set boosters so they can be used for draft while still keeping the higher price tag associated with set boosters. Also I miss the art cards in every pack. I'll still be attending pre-release but I won't be buying sealed boxes nearly as often

      Hm I've never bought paper so far, purely being active on Arena, primarily free2play. I'll probably get full sets a few years after their release in paper to play with friends, but frankly it seems like such an expensive hobby to play in paper

      @@absence9443 It is! And it is one of the reason I moved away from this game and that I hear many people around me they don't want to get into it because it is to much expensive. I hear a lot of talk about "gamepieces" but honestly if MTG wants to grow it player base they need to have affordable products. But when it cost 240$CAD tx incl for a play booster box people do not want cheap "gamepieces" in it. So either WotC would have to lower the price of their products so more people can afford and cards are cheaper.... or they keep justifying their high price by making so that there is no "gamepieces" but rather expensive cards to justify the high price; which will just keep making people staying away (tho there is always the possibility to proxy all). I thought about a middle ground where you pay 240$ to get cheap gamepieces and have the possibility to hit a very expensive lottery card... but even then I don't see poor people risking 240$ of their hard earned money on that.

    Unrelated but, I stopped going to prereleases now thanks to the play boosters, I dont really collect the cards anymore, and havent in a while. So now for me the price has gone up roughly 1/3rd of the price and im like nah, too expensive for now, so always appreciate these videos as I can live the feelings of opening packs via watching this.

    Went to pre-release last night (Australia) and ended up opening 11 rare/mythics from my kit. Majority of players pulled at least 2 mythics from their kits so overall everyone seemed happy with the new boosters. Went 3-1 with Boros, lamplight phoenix, wojek investigator and Argus Kos did a power of work. The mechanics made for a surprisingly fun draft.

      @@8thPlaceDave That is how it worked out for you in this one box, but the actual averages are different. I'm not gonna pretend I ran the numbers myself, but the calculations I saw on various posts regarding the averages definitely came out to be less rares per pack than previously. Not to mention that, while not a huge jump, each pack costs more than a set pack cost...even when calculating that you get more packs per box.

  • @endlessorbaggins8223

    I get that boxes went from 30 Set boosters to 36 play boosters. But, that jump from 180$CAD to 240$CAD (tx incl) for a box is enough for me not to buy into even if there would be more value in the play booster box. I was finding 180$ to be already very expensive, so 240$ falls into the territory of "not reasonable at all spending". It is not that I don't have the money. But at a time where everything infateed around me except my wage, keeping up with a hobby this expensive is not a priority. I rather use my thiner disposable incomes in something that is a "real" investment for my retirement, familly activities, etc. I know a bunch of people around me that sacrifice their quality of life and do not save for retirement, but they may spend (and sometime put that on credit) between 1000 to 3000$ on MTG each year thinking this is an investment when in my opinion it just show that they are not financially reasonable and responsible.

    Your Mythic count was low but you got the 3 most expensive cards in the set in one box and 9 surveil lands... and its still not even close to a break even (which with the current prices that is pretty much impossible) Special Guest cards and list cards are far more rare now, and they're worse too. This set is kinda neat but the value isn't there at all.

    That's because this is all the police stuff that they removed from New Capenna. Then they just went into their art files, found some Ravnica character art and put some detective hats and trench coats and stuff in order to try to sell the idea that this was always supposed to take place on Ravnica.

    • @endlessorbaggins8223
      @endlessorbaggins8223 Před 6 měsíci

      @@Beowulfgang_Amadeus My understanding as someone that is not a MTG judge is that Leyline of the Guildpack does not change the land type of your lands. It acts the same as an enchantment that would say "creatures you control have Vigilance"... so if you have a creature with first strike on the battlefield it would then have first strike and vigilance.
      If you have Reliqary Tower and Leyline of the Guildpack on the battlefield, Reliquary tower stays a non-basic lands that gives you no maximum hand size and a colorless mana + because of Leyline it gains all basic land types (Forest, Swamp, Moutain, Island, Plain) so it can add one of either W, U, B, R, G mana when you tap it.
      So to answer your question Leyline doesn't change anything for Price of Progress or Blood Moon effects, you would still count how many non-basic there is on the battlefield as if Leyline is not in play.

    They f*cked up again with these "new products". When they introduced draft boosters to cater for limited formats, they increased the price. Then, they wonder why nobody buys draft boosters and people opt in for set boosters only.
    Now they nerf set boosters, but keep the price tag. This makes people do not want to buy anything except collector boxes (that can get your money back asap. It is time to finally put an end to MtG, at least in a physical form. Now is a product only for collectors and not for gamers.
