    Hi! Very interesting to have stumbled over this YT-clip. Why? I'll be getting my first Leica, the Q3, next week. It will wait for me at the shop as soon as I'll be back from holidays. As for experience so far: I have about 40 years of experience as a photographer, mainly Nikon. I have owned couple of Nikon film cameras, a lot of DSLR (the D850 is still with me) and now a Nikon Z8 and a Nikon Zf. An I have a 13 Z-lenses, 10 of them primes. And despite being very, very happy with my Nikon gear I fully understand your desire for an excellent but small every day carry camera. I camera, which enables mine to create and a camera which inspires me to create because it is a piece of art itself. I'm very much looking forward to the experience..

    Hi. When shooting weddings I mostly use my Nikon Z8 and Godox Ad200’s two of them. However when I pull out the LeicaQ3 for specific moments and I need a flash for the Leica Q3 I have a Leica SF60.

      When using flash for weddings, first I usually use the Nikon Z8 with my Godox AD200's flashes. Now in this case, for the Leica Q3 I have a Leica SF 60 flash I use for this camera. However Godox is making a very small trigger for Leica Q soon, so I will more than likely get that and use my off camera Godox AD200's with the Leica Q3.

    Thanks for sharing your feedback on the Q3 ! An amazing camera for sure. For me, it is just too bad there is not a small joystick to better move the point of focus, both for auto or manual focus. I find the d pad not that practical to move a focus point... , Also , even if I really like this 28mm (more a 26) summilux, I think a 35mm focal lenth is the one thing that for me would make it 100% perfect :)

    • @obipixel
      @obipixel  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi there. Thank you for your feedback. Yes I have to agree the d pad could have been better and even bigger. I do not like the tracking capability with the dPad either. I prefer the dPads on Canon cameras. With regards to the 35mm you like, that is not an issue on the Leica Q3. It has th 60mpx and because it has 28mm to 90mm capabiity of cropping in the 35mm still gives me almost 45mpx photos. So the argument or worry about the 35mm has no merrit. Nevertheless there is no perfect camera. The Canon R3 is near perfect and the Leica Q3 is near perfect and that goes for the Fujifilm XT5 and the Nikon Z9. Either way, thank you for your discord. It is very valuable to get insight from other photographers about their experiences. Keep well.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts on q3. I’m just a photophile, with R5 and rf24-70/2.8 & 70-200/2.8 and also bought rf 24-105/4 for travel as the other two are so big to carry around with family. Even 24-105 is so big to carry around. So I was looking at q3 as an all rounder. I usually use 70-200 for my kids soccer games and little bit of wild life in the backyard or near by parks etc. 24-70 for all the rest of the stuff such as family photos or personal product photography etc. my question is did you try q3 for small scale sports photography (I’m not talking about professional level of sports photography), but at least kids sports etc. I even thinking about getting rid of 24-70 & 24-105 and buy q3, keep 70200 & r5 for kids sports. Your thoughts would be really appreciated. thanks again (subscribed myself to your channel)

      :-) Canon has great gear. I had the Canon R3 with the 28-70mm F/2 and the 70-200mm lens as well. However that gear, as great as it was and it is great gear, it was all too heavy. Yes I use the LeicaQ3 for light sports, kids, venues etc. However don't expect Canon R3 speeds or Maclaren speeds however for 80-90% of sports its great!

    Nice review/overview! One remark; the camera is not even a year on the market, so your year or 18 months remark is not correct.
    Besides this Q3, which I bought last summer, I'm a Fujifilm X photographer since 2014 with the occasional Nikon, which was my main system until 2014. I do not agree with the quality of the JPG files; they are not on par with the rest of the camera. The Fujifilm X files are much, much better. You really have to process the DNG raw files to get the most out of this amazing camera. That sensor is so, so good. And the files are simple to work with; you will not have to spend much time to get great results!
    The 28mm lens is a gem. So good, even wide open. It is more like a 26.7mm in practice, which I consider to be the best for my type of photography. Like you, the 16/1.4 is my most used lens on Fujifilm X, which is not that much wider than this "28mm"..
    Last remark; you do not have enough subscribers! I added one, all I can do. 😉

      Hello all,
      This is for all who watched my video and to thank Patric for his insight!
      Patrick thanks for reaching out. I want to clarify something to everyone about my comment on the camera's market presence. I initially used the Leica Q3 right on its launch day in Germany, 25th May 2023, not even a year ago, which led to a mix-up in my video. I misspoke, and I should have mentioned that I've had a small amounts of experience with the Leica Q2 about 18 months prior and only used the Leica Q3 briefly for some projects over the past 9 months without actually owning it until recently. Indeed, it was an oversight on my part, and I appreciate your attention to detail Patrick. Its refreshing. This mishap underscores the challenges of unedited video content. Your feedback is invaluable, and I'll aim for more thorough preparation in future videos.
      Regarding your comments on Fujifilm cameras, given your role as a Fujifilm X photographer, I acknowledge the potential bias towards the brand, do you? It's crucial to recognise that objectivity can be challenging in any context, especially for brand ambassadors. Despite this, different perspectives enrich our understanding of technology and creativity, which is inherently subjective. I do agree that Fujifilm produces excellent JPEGs, but like any camera system, it has its flaws and limitations, particularly evident in high-resolution prints in digital forensics, which I frequently encounter in my line of work.
      Comparing DNGs from the Leica Q3 system and Fujifilm, it's clear that Leica offers superior color fidelity and noise management, a difference that becomes more pronounced in print and when images are enlarged. The fundamental limitations of crop-sensor cameras in light intake and pixel size cannot be overlooked, despite the excellent quality of Fujifilm lenses. The Sumilux 28mm f1.7 lens, for instance, showcases a level of peformance and quality that stands out distinctly in both digital and print formats, especially in colour fidelity.
      Your point about the Fujifilm XT series is understoon for sure, especially in night photography in my experience with them. My recent experiences also support this, highlighting the nuanced differences between various camera models and systems. Despite my fondness for Fujifilm, including the X100V which I own, transitioning to the Leica Q3 has provided a noticeable difference in quality for my work, particularly in challenging conditions, which I did not expect.
      Having explored numerous cameras and lenses over four decades, I've come to appreciate the unique qualities each brand offers. Fujifilm remains a close second favorite for me, valued for its blend of quality and affordability. Yet, the Leica Q system has captured my preference with its unparalleled performance.
      Our dialogue as photographers of high caliber is always enriching, underscoring the importance of diverse experiences and viewpoints. Your role as an X Photographer is a testament to your expertise, and I'm grateful for our exchange. While my CZcams journey is still evolving, engagement with seasoned professionals like you, and one of my aquantances Jonathan Armstrong from Cape Town South Africa who is also a X Photographer with Fujifilm, not only improves my content but also contributes to the broader conversation within our community.
      Thank you again for your time and subscription, It is always appreciated. I look forward to further improving and engaging with the photography and videography communities and to also reduce my mistakes in the future.
      Regards to all
      Dimitrios

      @@obipixel I somehow missed that you answered my message. Sorry for that.
      I think we do agree on basically all things. 😁
      But I have to admit I'm going to sell some of my Fujifilm X gear and buy some Nikon Z gear in stead. My wife is still a Nikon shooter and when I bought a Z6 version 1 I saw coming by very cheap with a 26/2.8 pancake lens, batteries and the works, she has taken it from me and put it in her bag (she was using a Nikon D750). I shot a few times with it, and it is clearly a better quality images it produces; FX vs DX, obviously. And the colors are much more in line with the Q3, which makes using two cameras much easier. It also simply makes more sense to use the same system. I can also "blame" the Q3 because it makes the appearance of the X-T2/3/4 I have less needed; the Q3 is what I take for street photography now.
      I have to see what I will have in my Fujifilm set in a few months. I have sold the 23/1.4 already, but I do have 5 more primes and 6 zoom lenses. Which was silly anyway, even though I used everything. I still like my Fuji cameras a lot, but I guess after 10 years using them, I'm looking forward to something "new" as well.
      Thank you for your long reaction and you still do not have nearly enough followers! 😉

  • @randomcomentator
    @randomcomentator Před 2 měsíci

    That's interesting since I liked the original Q jpeg colors while the Q3 jpegs are stupefyingly horrible for me, especially with higher ISOs > 800. The noise is atrocious and the colors are terribly bad with Leica Looks enabled. They are remotely passable with Neutral profile, but it's a far cry from the Q1. I shoot DNG exclusively because of that. You can get the RAWs to look decent. Moreover, the lens is pretty blurry in the corners and there is quite noticeable purple fringing.
    What kind of JPG settings do you use, maybe I do something wrong?

    • @obipixel
      @obipixel  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Well I would not consider any camera for JPEGs other than Fujifilm. They have the best photos out the camera for sure. No need to shoot RAW with Fujifilm. So yes other cameras, including Leica are terrible with JPEGs. So I always shoot RAW. With regards to ISO, I have pushed the Leica to 12800 ISO and it is fine. Of course youre going to get noise. This is what happens with you have a high megapixel. Also when there is low light, ALL high megapixel camera perform poorly, this is my low megapixel cameras perform better for signal to noise ratio. However because I always use flash and control my lighting I dont have issues and I get the best possible shots with the LeicaQ3. Yes the lens is blurry on the corners, like almost all lenses are. Purple fringing is possible, however I find that when I slightly move my position when taking shots the fringing goes away. Once again Fujifilm eliminates that in the camera and lenses. Overall I am very happy with the camera, however will it beat my Canon R3 or my Nikon Z8, No! Those cameras out perform ALL other cameras in the market, however I have to carry lots of heavy gear to use them when travelling. So in conclusion, yes you may have to sacrifice some noise to carry less gear. I have recently purchased a Leica Flash and it rectifies most of the issues, and if you can control the light (not always possible) then you will get amazing shots. However is it a perfect camera. Sadly there is NO perfect camera. The closest I got to perfect was the Fujifilm XT-5 or the Canon R3 or the Nikon Z8. However because I now carry one camera and a fixed lens, I learn to use the weaknessess to my advantage and with time you will get those shots. Its a matter of learning to work with the limitations. I hope that helps?

    Canon is afraid. You see the whole science of optics has become so computer based and there are now so many talented lens designers working for the "second line" lens manufacturers, that companies like Sigma, Tamron. and Tokina are designing beautiful optics that are tack sharp and are lower in price than the lenses developed by the camera manufacturers. I think that the bravest camera brands will be the most successful. Companies that are going to take some risk in order toCanon is not one of those brands.

    • @obipixel
      @obipixel  Před měsícem

      I stand corrected. I recently learnt directly from Canon that they are opening up the RF mount to Sigma. It is more than likely a little bit too late for them. I do also have to agree with you as there are many talented lens designers today working on very impressive lenses and that can no longer be ignored as second line or third line lenses. Tamron has always been a very strong contender and in fact I own a Tamron lens, the 35-150mm f2/2-8 and it is absolutely fantastic and I use that on my Nikon Z8. Today it looks like Sony, Nikon, Panasonic and Fujifilm have incredible lens lineups and Canon is losing heavily in total market share. Let's see what happens with the CanonR1. Still, I have done a complete U-turn and I have left Canon completely. I'm very happy with my Nikon gear and my Leica Q3. I don't think Canon will ever have me back as a customer. Thanks for watching my videos much appreciated.

      Great video. My first SLR was a Canon EF, bought in 1977. I switched brands several times over the following decades. I switched to mirrorless from Pentax full frame in 2017. Last year I sat down to figure out why I was losing the pleasure that photography has given me for more than 5 decades. As a result I bought a very good used K1ii and the joy is back, although the weight is increasingly a challenge to my septuagenarian frame. In my working life I was lucky enough to earn well and used Leica M6 and M7 cameras for some years. The idea of carrying a single body with a fixed Summilux 28mm lens and 60Mp sensor is incredibly attractive.
