something i really like about this scene is that it really shows augustus’ greed overtaking him. because in the original, and even in the book, what happens is that wonka gives the kids free reign of the room and waits until augustus is drinking from the river to say, “wait not that”. so logically, there’s the argument that augustus didn’t really do anything wrong. but here is actually shows him going overboard and being so overwhelmed with avarice (specifically avarice too, as several times he spits the food in his mouth out to make room for more) that he loses control of himself. i think it’s more to say that i like how this version committed to making him a greedy, antagonistic bad kid, rather than just a fat kid who’s been overfed by clueless parents
There was also that moment in the scene before the Chocolate Room where everyone was still in lobby, Augustus baited Charlie by asking him if he wanted chocolate, Charlie earnestly answers "Yes," then Augustus dickishly retorted "Then you should have brought some." Augustus probably already knew Charlie was poor and starving and wanted to rub it in his face that he's better off like a greedy bully, and to tip off to the audience that we really shouldn't be sorry for him.
Unfortunaly, the musical(s) also show him just doing what Wonka Say. And taking in count that, in the musical he's turn Into chocolate and eated up, they should have done better, like in this movie
I mean according to online augustus is only 9 years old imagine your 9 and go into a room made of sweets and chocolates you would lose your fucking mind and wonka never gave a warning not to go near the river tbh he was kinda asking for the river to get contaminated I mean you bring five children to a room were there told to eat everything and anything atleast one of them would drink the chocolate river and unfortunately for augustus that was him
Charlie lives on a diet of cabbage stew and bread and the first thing he goes to eat in a room that you can eat anything in it and he wants to have an apple. You'd think he'd go into the chocolate lake first.

@@charlirenner193 The visual effects in Tim Burton's Willy Wonka are amazing for sure. The set for the chocolate room looks phenomenal, looks like a strange new world.

This is one of the reasons I prefer this over the original. I love Gene Wilder, but I did not like the movie. Johnny Depp's Wonka has been isolated from society most of his life and I instantly believe he's Willy Wonka! When I see Gene Wilder, I still see Gene Wilder. Again, I love his acting, but it's just not as believable for me.

2:28 Wonka’s bit about cannibalism is seriously the one thing about this movie that sticks with me all these years. It’s funny because it’s so true, and honestly makes him sound like a 1st Grade teacher
1971 Rotton Children: neither one insults charlie but Veruca and Violet did try to shut each other up 2005 Rotton Childern: Augustus slighty insults Charlie about not having a chocolate bar like him but Violet Beauregarde just downright says Charlie Bucket being a loser when implying a new piece of gum, veruca and mike didn't even bother to insult him or anything bad
It's incredible how the visuals of the chocolate room captured the sugary wonderland feel of the original movie and combined it with Tim Burton's signature eerie style
I felt so bad for Augustus Gloop, because he wasn't supposed to consume the chocolate that was seen in the Chocolate River of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. In fact, I also felt bad for Veruca Salt, Mike Teavee and Violet Beauregarde, because they also broke the rules like Augustus Gloop did at the chocolate factory thus ruining the tour.
Wow, Wonka's Wonderful Chocolate Factory has everything there is to see including: The Chocolate Room, The Boat, The Invention Room, The Nut Sorting Room, The Great Glass Elevator, Fudge Mountain, The Cotton Candy Room, The Puppet Hospital and Burn Center, The Admiration Offices, The Blasting Areas and The Television Room. They are my favorite places.

Well, he’s a billionaire. And when you’re a billionaire, being eccentric is kind of an obligation
@@lisamcdonald1014 Which the 1971 movie sorta missed the point of the 4 kids. They were all mean, spoiled, greedy brats who all hated each other because to them, it's a compilation. And then you have Charlie who's the quiet kid in the back of class who's actually following the rules.
Still can’t believe that’s Johnny Depp
I look for it and I don't see it XD
Wonka: “Don’t lose your heads.” Augustus: *loses his chocolate bar*
I love Wonka’s awkward little laugh. It’s hilarious
That, and his constant twitering
thats the best part about him lol
This is one of the reasons I prefer this over the original. I love Gene Wilder, but I did not like the movie. Johnny Depp's Wonka has been isolated from society most of his life and I instantly believe he's Willy Wonka!
When I see Gene Wilder, I still see Gene Wilder. Again, I love his acting, but it's just not as believable for me.
Willy wonka: eat some of my grass it's so delicious
Boy: is it eatable
Willy: yes everything is eatable in here even me except thats called cannibalism

Still I can't believe Johny haven't got any Oscars. I watched this again now and still can't see Johny Depp in Willy Wonka..ob the range..the talent. Even the voice totally change

He said ''Enjoy'' not ''Destroy'' :)

Augustas eating aggressively, veruca licking lollipop as a proper girl 😂
"Everything in this room is eatable."
Unfortunately, Augustus took that a bit too literally.
My man started eating the grass and the got way over his head and decided to swim in chocolate
Love the way he was almost eating himself at the end of the movie

I can't believe after watching this movie like ten times I did not know that the actor of Willy Wonka was Johnny. I only found out like 2-3 years ago, that literally proves how good he is at acting. 😩💖
I love this movie, Johnny Depp put such an accurate presentation of what I thought he was like, well done it’s marvellous

2:28 Wonka’s bit about cannibalism is seriously the one thing about this movie that sticks with me all these years. It’s funny because it’s so true, and honestly makes him sound like a 1st Grade teacher
2:30 when he said he was eatable but that's canibolism like if he was a real teacher I was *DYING*
Why is Violet so mean to my boi Charlie? He didn’t do anything wrong
that’s the point. you’re not supposed to like the other kids, hence the name “the horrid children”.
@@andanotherthing12, which is honestly something I feel the 1971 version failed at a bit. They made Violet, Mike and Augustus too likeable.
Look at my pfp and you will know why I love what u said
@@ambermedellin6832 you hate Charlie for being bullied???
1971 Rotton Children: neither one insults charlie but Veruca and Violet did try to shut each other up
2005 Rotton Childern: Augustus slighty insults Charlie about not having a chocolate bar like him but Violet Beauregarde just downright says Charlie Bucket being a loser when implying a new piece of gum, veruca and mike didn't even bother to insult him or anything bad
Violet should of won
Yeah I did too, if only they chose to be better people and make better choices
“Even I am eatable but that’s called cannibalism

He was kind in the beginning then he went psycho throughout the whole movie
Nope he didn't he did right thing. He got inf about every kid before they came and made exam. How can one give entire factory easly?
The 1971 willy wonka version was a psycho
Actually he was kinda funny
@Christopher Bingham wow , did know that I haven't watched the movie yet.
