The thing about this that is brillant is that Jack was fucking with him the entire time, and was just pushing boundrys to see how long it would take for the Cricket to give up hope that Jack himself was redeemable. The movie never explains this, no dialog, no inner monoloauge, no winking at the audience. The people that wrote this script should have gotten paid the big bucks for this.
The thing is Jack at least humored Cricket for a while: answered all his questions and simply allowed Cricket to realize the irredeemable monster he was. Mindy Kaling came blasting and burning Scooby Doo fans.
In a sense, Jack probably was doing more evil than normal just to get the cricket to break, by trying to redeem Jack he only managed to bring out the worst in him.
