    • David Bowie - Life On ...
REACTION TO THE Official video for David Bowie's Life On Mars? live at the Elysée Montmartre, Paris on 14th October, 1999.
    Lyrics:
    [Verse 1]
    It's a god-awful small affair
To the girl with the mousy hair
But her mummy is yelling, "No!"
And her daddy has told her to go
But her friend is nowhere to be seen
Now she walks through her sunken dream
To the seat with the clearest view
And she's hooked to the silver screen
    [Pre-Chorus]
But the film is a saddening bore
For she's lived it ten times or more
She could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask her to focus on
    [Chorus]
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh, man, look at those cavemen go
    It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the lawman
    Beating up the wrong guy
Oh, man, wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
    Is there life on Mars?
    [Verse 2]
    It's on America's tortured brow
That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow
Now the workers have struck for fame
    'Cause Lennon's on sale again
See the mice in their million hordes
From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads
Rule Britannia is out of bounds
To my mother, my dog, and clowns
    [Pre-Chorus]
But the film is a saddening bore
Because I wrote it ten times or more
It's about to be writ again
As I ask you to focus on
    [Chorus]
Sailors fighting in the dance hall
Oh, man, look at those cavemen go
    It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the lawman
    Beating up the wrong guy
Oh, man, wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
    Is there life on Mars?
David Bowie redefined musical genres and the potential of live performance for generations of music lovers. Creating and discarding a variety of personae and restlessly challenging musical boundaries, Bowie released timeless albums including Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust…, Aladdin Sane, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station to Station, "Heroes,” Let's Dance, Heathen, The Next Day and many more. Blackstar, Bowie’s 28th and final studio album, was released on his 69th birthday, January 8, 2016. David Bowie died on January 10, 2016, two days after the release of Blackstar. His body of work, his influence on the worlds of music, art, fashion, film, theatre and beyond, and his legacy of innovation and reinvention will live forever. 2022 kicks off with Bowie 75, a celebration of his 75th birthday with the Brilliant Adventure box set, the previously unreleased Toy, the 50th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and a series of special events.

Hi suzi and travis, back to bowie. This is one of my favourite david bowie songs written in 1971. This was way before i got into his music as a teen in the 80s however i recommend going through his catologue of music as it is insanely good. David's voice along with Mike garson's piano playing in this live performance is incredible. Enjoy!

As well as being one of the greatest seminal artists of the last fifty years, David Bowie was an exceptionally beautiful man, aesthetically and personally until the day he died.

One of my favorite from him too... Beautiful version. L’Élysée Montmarte is a small, friendly and humble live place in Paris, and I’m not surprised he performed there...
    Nice reaction, as usual. ❤

Bowie was watching a bunch of seamen having a fight with the locals in a nightclub in Hull Yorkshire (UK) His guitarist came from that city. This fight inspired the opening lines.

The original studio version was a full production with orchestra.
Now I'm in a quandary because I can't decide which version I like more.
I live in Aylesbury, England and there's a statue of bowie in the town square.
It was made to commemorate David's first performance as his Ziggy Stardust persona which was in a small venue in Aylesbury.
I was only a kid when Bowie first hit the scene over here and didn't really understand what he was about.
I was listening primarily to deep purple, black Sabbath, ELP, Floyd etc.
Now I'm 62 and been a prog-rock drummer for over 45 years and now I understand and really appreciate his work.
A true talent and pioneer of music and arts that is sadly missed.
    ✌❤🇬🇧

Always great to see some Bowie reactions, not his best live interpretation of the song in my opinion, but mesmerizing nonetheless, as always for Bowie of course.
You guys need to check out the new track by Marianas Trench! It's called "A Normal Life" and judging by your past reactions to their more epic side, I think you'll really enjoy it!

I think Bowie's whole career - largely summed up here - is about escaping stultifying British suburbia. It was not an uncommon feature of his generation and - perhaps ironically - it was appreciating the 'weirdness' (from a UK perspective of the time) of American rock and roll that generated his 'other' personality. He was, at the end of the day, about the art of music.

I prefer the studio version- including piano, and did not like the many small melody changes from the original version
