A lot of the old politicians aren't up to it any more. Mitch McConnell comes to mind, as does Trump
Republicans don't want McConnell for the same reason Dems don't want Biden. It has more to do with their health than their age. Biden's mental health is rapidly declining. McConnell's physical health is declining, complete with seizures on live TV. Trump isn't in either category yet. You might not like him, but he has not fallen into physical or mental decline the way that Biden and McConnell are. He speaks clearly. He's still on the golf course. He can still remember people's names. He's not referring to anyone as "the black man".
