  • Join me as I pressure wash this caravan that has sat for 4 years. It was so satisfying to be able to get rid of most of the greenery and make the caravan look less abandoned.

    Great job Specky 👍

    Great video specky. Something different, great transformation, soothing music, good narration. I tried to clean the roof of my Dad's van that I don't think had ever been really cleaned. It had the grown in mold into it. I had to use a pad that was abrasive to get rid of it. Only an old van, looked better with it removed.

    I'm clearly weird as this video is so so therapeutic and could watch it over and over, I have 4 cars that I look after and valet weekly and can spend a whole day on them and especially love it when they are really mega dirty lol. so to get my hands on something like that caravan i'd be in my element. Great video, commentary and background music.

      Presoaking with an alkaline or basic leaning snow foam is optimal and can be observably, repeatedly demonstrated in AB testing. Water alone is a poor emulsifier, encapsulator, and a poor surfactant.
      pH Neutral presoaks are nonsensical marketing non-sequiturs. Just colored bubble juice that doesn’t degrease or eat grime.
      Strong presoaks and methodical pressure rinsing is the only way to prevent major swirls and scratches on your cars clear coat, particularly so on cars that aren’t ceramically coated or at the least waxed. Just sayin

    It doesn’t seem like the foam did much, you are still having to use the pressure washer inches from the surface to get it clean. As long as it doesn’t damage the surface I think I probably maybe would’ve used some bleach. It does wonders on mildew.

    • @SpeckyMcSporran
      @SpeckyMcSporran  Před 2 lety +1

      The snowfoam softens and breaks down grime but needs the pressure washer to help push the grime off the surface. On areas that I didn't treat first, the grime didn't want to come off as easily.

    Hi there Specky, pressure washers definitely saves a lot of hard work but you should be more wary of using it too close to seals/joints and vents etc on a caravan as it can cause damage to the fridge or gas flues.

      Be very wary of using a pressure washer on any caravan or motorhome, especially an old one like this. You run a real risk of disturbing the sealant sealing the panels together which leads to water ingress and ultimately rot. I use Wet and Forget a couple of weeks prior to cleaning if it's really bad, what ever is left will wash off easily with ordinary car shampoo and a soft brush or microfiber mitt
      Pressure washer

    Great video and a good transformation. If you do another caravan with this much greenery, might I suggest pretreating with Pool Biocide instead of AP Degreaser. Makes very easy work of removing all the mold, moss, mildew etc because that’s exactly what it’s for. Also, likely cheaper than the AP Degreaser. Keep on mate, great content!

    Hi I Valet Caravans for a living and I have to say despite the very green condition of this Van. My advice would be not not use a pressure washer and a sweeping brush to clean it at all. Pressure Washers damage and remove the sealant allowing water to ingress the Caravan Structure. Using a sweeping brush would leave scratches and swirls which are difficult to remove once clean and attract further dirt. I understand the Caravan is old and not of a great value but I would not like Folk with Newer Vans to follow this method. Please be assured this is Not a rant but to help benefit Folk who have just bought a Caravan for the first time. Many Thanks Phil🙂

    A simple home made soft was solution applied before power washing and allowed to dwell up to 30 mins or so would have made the green easier to shift. A simple mix of around 0.25% Hypochlorite with water and 50ml of biological laundry liquid into every 1000ml and put it on wet as in wet the surface first then spray it on, get everything covered and soaked and let is sit 15 to 30 mins. test a little first incase it causes color fade issues. One I've seen a friend use is just the biological liquid in water hosed on and left overnight. the lichen almost fell off. Nice work though.

    Did you turn the pressure down on the washer ? I was always told if you can try and not use a pressure washer on a van rather a hose or turn the pressure right down . Im lucky ours doesnt get this back and Ive a shed to stand on to do higher parts and roof with . A good reason to own a cleaning brush attachment for these roofs and also for use on conservatories etc . Generally with my fathers I will add a cleaner type polish then apply a ceramic paste wax on top to stop the grime sitting as deep on the fibreglass . You often find you get runs down the sides from the window seals that can be a swine to remove

    When it comes to those yellowed plastics. I'm not so sure that's staining. It's probably that fire resistant chemical they used to put in everything back in 80's and 90's. And overtime the UV rays of the sun would cause it to yellow. Leave it to video game enthusiasts and they figured out how to reverse that using Hydrogen Peroxide, UV lamps and tinfoil.

      It's not a very long lasting wax but you can use it after every wash to help dry it and refresh the finish.

    Cant help but think top to bottom would have been better .

    • @SpeckyMcSporran
      @SpeckyMcSporran  Před 2 lety

      Starting at the bottom allows the chemicals above to keep working and breaking down the grime. Starting at the top would mean the water would run down and carry away all the useful chemicals. Hope this helps.

    I am so frustrated by the fact that he started rinsing from the bottom up. Why wouldn't he used gravity to his advantage? Why wash the dirt at the top over what he just cleaned at the bottom?

    • @SpeckyMcSporran
      @SpeckyMcSporran  Před 2 lety

      It's called a prewash. Blast the dirt off from the bottom and allow the chemicals above to continue working.

      @mswildi Před 2 lety

      @@SpeckyMcSporran I'm sorry, but that has nothing to do with the fact that if you rinse from the top down, clean washed over dirty rather than dirty dirty draining over clean.

    • @SpeckyMcSporran
      @SpeckyMcSporran  Před 2 lety

      But nothing was clean at that point. The surface dirt was pushed off then I washed it using a brush and high alkaline shampoo. Nothing was rinsed over anything clean because nothing had been cleaned yet.

    It's not wise to use a brush on your Windows as it can scratch them, use a sponge. If you do scratch the windows then you need to use brasso cloth to get rid of the scratches.

      I honestly don't know but I would be very careful, maybe start with something more gentle first and test stronger products on a small area.

  • @mswildi

    Also, if you wash from the top down, you run less risk of your product drying out. URGH!!
