Australia's GOAT for sure. My old man fought him and was knocked out in 5. Dad said he was just in another class

Hi Pauline, i am searching for a Vincent Sands, he is shiftin sands son of the fighting sands family i believe he is my great grandfather. Ny grandfather is the one that the sands sons adopted the names from i think. I am hoping that you or someone in your family may know of them. Was hoping to find out more. Thank you very much.

You should be proud ...I am and I've posting youtube clips, newspaper clips anything I can find for years and I still send it over to the Americans everytime they praise Sugar Ray Robinson, Marciano ....Ali skiting about Robinson as the greatest Pound for Pound ....Sands was in my books ....we were always talking about him as a young bloke ...I'm 72 now and I'm still talking [bragging] about ...I will continue to get him the recognition he deserves .........he was a science fighter

Great individual and magnificent fighter . I used to listen to his fights when I was in short pants. He'd win a fight I later read and sit on Central Station late into the night waiting for a train to take him home to Newcastle . He died,at 28 I think, in a truck accident. As good as any surely whether as a boxer or anything else. Fine family too God bless him & them

My mother speaks very highly of this fellow and had spent quite a bit of time growing up with him also. My grandfather is ray "Mustard" coleman another champion australian boxer...they certainly dont make them as tough these days as to how boxers were back in the 40s and 50s ect..respect.

My good friend Trevor King fought Ray Coleman back in the days and still have a photo on my wall of Dave Sands sparring my other friend Neville Pointer. Yeah they sure don't make them like they use too

Great fighter. Sugar Ray Robinson the middleweight champ of the world in the early fifties didn't want to fight him. Although he was a great fighter he never earned any money. I think he got 90 pounds for a defence of a British Empire title defence, in his last fight before he died.He was British Empire Champ for tears, most of the top ten contenders avoided him. He got killed driving a truck full of sleeper timber I believe. He had to cut & haul timber to pay the rent. My mate Gordon Meredith was a number 2 Lightweight in the ratings in 1952

The already do ...he was inducted into the American Boxing Hall of Fame .....and I've been a one man Dave Sands fan club for some years now .....Sugar Ray Robinson dodged him because his manager said he'd lose his title if he fights Sand and Jake Lamotta [Raging Bull] said he wanted a lot of money to fight him ...he was what is known as a scientific fighter .....fight with the brain ..
