Catalan food is a gem of a Spanish regional cuisine and so many people are unaware of it. In fact, in order to find traditional Catalan restaurants you'll have to search a lot, maybe get out of the city centre, really do your research. There are only a handful of these little family-run establishment in Barcelona, all preserving the ancient Catalan culinary traditions. In these eateries, you'll find forgotten ingredients and recipes that aren't born to have a mass appeal, but are nonetheless charmingly tasty. In this Catalan Food Tour I have collected the top spots to visit in the city if you really wanna immerse yourself in the traditions. Here are the google links to the restaurants I eat in:

Hi I'm born and raised in Barcelona, this video is one of the most respectful and representative videos of our culinary culture that I have seen i a long time, not all the dishes are 100% traditional but that's ok, we reinvented our selves like the cap i pota salada or the escalivada that you had, you are still missing a bunch of stuff, I can recommend you allot of places that I'm not going to mention due to, as you said (massification) but I have to really congratulate you for the approach and cometary shown in this video.I remember buying salted cod with my grandma in la Boqueria (before it was an amusement park) and eating Fricando every wednesday for lunch at her home. Being born in a restaurant owners family, I'm very happy to se some foreigner (even that you are italian and have allot in common with us) appreciate what we really stand for. Thanks PD: the mushroom are called moixernons and the scarpeta concept we call it sucar.

Thanks for your testimony about your childhood, very interesting to hear. Also interesting to hear your opinion of La Boqueria - I had thought about doing a video there although I did have the feeling that it wasn’t going to be a very authentic experience 😀

Another delightful video . Your respect & enjoyment for the culture of Catalan really shines . In the UK, sadly, rabbit is not very😊😊 valued , I came to appreciate game meats living in Norfolk, my personal favourites being pigeon and hare . 😊

@DanFandelli The town of Fakenham in Norfolk has several really good butcher's . There is also a strong barter culture in Norfolk. I would trade jams & chutney for game / fish. Looking forward to your next adventure 😀

Great video! I wish more tourists could try our local food, it's a shame Barcelona is becoming less and less catalan by the day. Whenever people come here all they know is paella and think it's all we've got, which is really far from the truth. It really saddens me. I'm glad you got to try FricandĂł, it's my favorite dish, and so easy to make!

    • @DanFandelli

True, I think the Catalan region doesn’t market itself well for its local food and it’s a shame!

Very good video with really Catalan dishes. Just a small mistake. Churros are not typical of Catalonia, rather of Madrid. Can VilarĂł, where you had one of your lunches, is a "fork and knife" restaurant. The custom is very old and is being lost a little, but in Barcelona there are still a few of good quality and Can VilarĂł is one of them. These restaurants are close to markets or places where fairs are held. The typical thing is to have breakfast - 7 am to 10 am approx .= with very powerful dishes so that people can recover the energy of the effort they have made, they unload the boxes in the markets. Imagine having the cod and then the fricando - portions a little, only a little, smaller - at 8:30 am !!
