Esostrephia - The Lighthouse (Ο Φάρος) - Live Recording Sessions

"The Lighthouse" (Ο Φάρος) is an original piano piece composed and performed by Michael Stavropoulos (aka Esostrephia). It is the fifth composition of the album "Αναμνήσεις" (Memories).
It has a hopeful and bright melody full of sentimentalism. It is based on a simple theme of 8 measures which is repeated on different octaves and tonalities. The main tonality is C minor and after two repeats of the theme the tonality changes to F minor where is the most dynamic part of the composition. Finally it returns to the root tonality so the composition can finish. The short theme which repeats resembles the beacon of light of the lighthouse which turns around itself in a periodic movement. It can be divided into four phrases - cadences as follows; A cadence i - v - VI in the C Aeolian mode (natural minor scale), a cadence IV - V - I in the Eb major scale, a cadence III - IV - i in the C Dorian mode and finally a cadence VI - iv - V - i in the C harmonic minor.
The audio file was recorded through a line signal from the line output of a YAMAHA P-145 stage piano. For the recording I used a scarlett focusrite 2i4 1st generation audio interface and the application Audacity (free to use).
